WAHOO

(Acanthocybium solanderi)

Reaching sizes of six feet and over 100 pounds, Louisiana wahoo are the bailiwick of many an offshore winter time jaunt. Considered a top-predator, wahoo are renowned for there drag destroying high speed runs and for their excellence at the dinner table.

Wahoo are easy to distinguish from their cousins, the king mackerel, by the long snout, half the length of the head. Louisiana wahoo typically display brilliant vertical bands of blue running down the sides of the fish. The tail lower and upper parts are almost straight up and down as opposed to the mackerel's which has a large arced tail, nearly forming a crescent.
