released all in a single day. Red fish for the most part travel in schools, especially along the rocks that line both sides of Southwest Pass. Southwest Pass, an area which is quite unique, for it is at this location where the mighty Mississippi River finally ends its long journey , which began in Minnesota . It is here where millions of gallons of fresh water are dumped into the Gulf of Mexico each minute along with a tremendous amount of bait fish such as river shad ,threadfin shad , and river shrimp , all which are devoured by the redfish. The rocks at Southwest Pass create perfect structure for redfish to hide in , ambushing bait fish as they are dumped into the gulf. This area , just below Cypress Cove Marina in Venice, La. Mike Frenette and the Charter Boat Teaser Team can produce redfish virtually 365 days a year (weather permitting) . Light tackle enthusiasts this place is for you , using lead jig heads in the 1/2 - 1 oz. size and attaching soft plastic grub style lures to these jig heads then working the lure slowly on the bottom produces great catches. One thing for certain hold on , because these "Bulls" can really fight. |
