Yellowfin Season Starts Strong. Photo by Richard K. Husser

A Great Start!

This 131 LB Yellowfin Tuna was landed by a happy client of Capt. Kevin Frelich's while fishing on board the Strike Zone. Capt. Frelich had been trolling near the "Midnight Lump", a underwater mountain that rises from 450 to 200 feet deep, 21 NM SSW of Southwest Pass in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Lump is a favorite spot for anglers in search for BIG Yellowfin Tuna.

Due to numerous boats that fish the area, many skippers prefer to anchor and chum the sound sensitive Yellowfin. Remember to bring lots of anchor line if you intend on chumming for tuna in this area, there is no manmade structure to tie up to.
