!!!CALCASIEU LAKE!!! Been waiting for news from Calcasieu Lake? Sorry about the lack of news. School started today, so I'm back in the classroom. Today the best trout action was along the Calcasieu Ship Channel. The Red Fish were hitting today at the Jetties. On the rough side of the Jetties the water was a little murky, but the reds didn't mind. Limits of the reds were caught. As always, the specks and the reds preferred the delicasies of live shrimp.
Here at Spicer's Bait & Tackle on Kelso Bayou in Hackberry, we have great onsite lodging, fishing tackle and plenty of live shrimp available 7 days a week. Need to know a little more about Calcasieu Lake? Visit our website at www.rodnreel.com/spicerbait and learn the secrets of Calcasieu Lake.

Calcasieu Lake!!!!!!!
Most everyone is heading south. "Washout" was real good today. That is until a ship would come along and muddy it up. The specks were hitting on those live shrimp just like yesterday. Many good sized fish were brought in. Most boats had close to their limits. Tomorrow should be some of the same. Also offshore today was good. It was almost like glass out there.

News from CALCASIEU LAKE.
Things were fair today on the lake. Boats coming in averaged 20-25 specks. They were nice size. Most could be caught around Washout. Live shrimp still seemed to be a favorite.

CALCASIEU LAKE!!
According to Captain Mark Huse of Hackberry Charter Service, the specks were active today at the Washout. Nice sizes were caught with live shrimp. Or if you prefer to throw plastic, try the clear Sparkle Beetles w/metallic flakes and red dot. The specks seem to really like those.

News from Calcasieu Lake area.
According to Captain Mark Huse of Hackberry Charter Service, the Jetties had pretty good action today. But the bigger fish were to be had offshore and along the beach.
If you're brave enough to try the Gulf, they were tearing them up at the 1st rigs, 4-5 miles offshore. They were coming in with limits of Speckled Trout.
Some of the best action inshore was around Turner's Bay and I-210 Bridge. At the bridge, you had to weed through the smaller ones but many went 2-3 pounds. Also Moss Lake, 9-Mile, Washout, and West Cove north of Rabbit Island were fair today. Use those Live shrimp and you'll get your share.
Remember here at Spicer's Bait & Tackle in Hackberry on Kelso Bayou there are plenty of live shrimp available 7 days a week.

The fishing today was good. It seems the Cameron Jetties was THE PLACE to be. Boats out at 6 AM were back by 10 AM with their limits in specks. They are still hitting those live shrimp. West Cove is seeing some action. Also the birds were really working under the I-210 Bridge, but word is it was not specks.

The place to be today for Speckled trout was at the Cameron Jetties. Several limits were caught with live shrimp. The wind, what little there was, was out of the east and very calm. The water was clear. It seems yesterday, I was misinformed about the conditions of the water. West Cove also saw action. The birds were beginning to work a little.

Not much going on right now. The Cameron Jetties at the gulf are still a little muddy. The Calcasieu Ship Channel at the cuts is still good for a few Speckled Trout. Up in West Cove at Cross Reef was a pretty good spot today. The specks were still hitting on those live shrimp. Offshore at the 1st. rig was good fishing with cut bait. A few limits were caught there.

It seems that the specks are picking up a little. It still has a long way to go to measure up to last year's season. If you're fishing on Calcasieu Lake, the place to be is in the Ship Channel fishing the cuts from 9-Mile Cut all the way down to the ferry landing. The s/w winds are still keeping the waters in the lake a little stirred up. As always the fish seem to prefer live shrimp over any other.

Things are beginning to pick up a little on Calcasieu Lake and the Ship Channel. Today, if you were in the southwest corner of West Cove from the Nature Trail to Old Camp Cut, the fish were snapping up those live shrimp. The best place to cast was along the reef and the old rock pile. There were so many fish, they were swimming into crab traps. When they start that, you know there are plenty.

Specks picked up today on Calcasieu Lake. Boats were coming in with limits or close to it. Some had many 2.5-pounders or better. Seems they were hitting those live shrimp around the Old Jetties. They were snapping up the shrimp on the Calcasieu Ship Channel where Hog Island Gully dumps into the channel. I-210 Bridge saw plenty of action also. Here they were plentiful but small.

According to Captain Ray Christy of FISHY BUSINESS, the best fishing today was up at Moss Lake and by the I-210 Bridge. Calcasieu Lake is too muddy to be very productive. Out on Moss Lake, the SPECKS were plentiful, but the size was disappointing. It seems live shrimp was the choice menu item for the specks. You would pretty much be wasting your time with anything else.

Not much action today on Calcasieu Lake. The wind doesn't want to cooperate with the fishermen. Some left Calcasieu Lake and headed to Moss Lake to avoid the wind. Specks were hitting live shrimp here and didn't want anything to do with plastic, according to one of the captains. He came in with 20 keepers. Boats were coming in with anywhere from 10 to the highest I heard of with 29 specks. Here at Spicer's Bait & Tackle, many fishermen & ladies keep coming day after day for our live shrimp and launching facilities located on Kelso Bayou in Hackberry.

Everything on Calcasieu Lake was a little slow today, except the northwesterly wind. It played heck with the boaters today. Most fishermen came in with anywhere from 15 to 35 specks. Mostly 15. The specks, when you could find them, were hitting on live shrimp. Plenty of live shrimp are available at Spicer's Bait & Tackle located on Kelso Bayou in Hackberry.

The fishing today was worth the burning of the sun. Specks were hitting on live shrimp at the Jetties and Oyster Bayou. Boats were coming in with an average of 30 specks and seemed satisfied with their catches. Although many would like to see more in the boat, the thrill of the catch is always exciting.

Speckled Trout have been showing up in Turners Bay and Long Point on Calcasieu Lake. Long Point has been hot for speckled trout and red fish as the water has been clear. The water at the Cameron Jetties and the south end of Calcasieu Lake is muddy as of this past Sunday and Monday. Over this past weekend there were quite a few six and seven pound trout being caught at Long Point. The big fish are being caught on Top Dog and Live Shrimp.
For more information call Spicer Bait & Tackle at 337-762-3170 or 337-762-4418. We have lodging available, free boat launch, live shrimp, gasoline and a full service tackle store. Spicer Bait & Tackle can make your fishing trip an enjoyable one on Calcasieu Lake.
