This page will describe some of Louisiana's marsh and coastal fishing opportunities, and offer tips on tackle selection. The tackle selection information is not based solely on my own experience, but is derived from the collective opinions of the very experienced fishermen who contribute to the postings on rodnreel.com.

This is the Shimano Stradic spinning reel, mounted on a Castaway Light Saltwater Spin Rod, and spooled with 30# Power Pro braided line. I use 20# Triple Fish monofilament, for leader material.

This is also a Shimano, but at the low end of the price spectrum -- the model TX2000. It hangs from a Castaway Specks n' Reds rod, and is also spooled with Power Pro line. Note the "Cajun Thunder" Equalizer cork... distinguished by the two solid brass beads. These cast quite well, and according to Brian Epstein, catch more fish than a traditional float. Who am I to argue with a pro of his caliber? I use ONLY the egg-shaped Equalizers, and change colors to match the conditions of visibility.... (Not the fishes' visibility, either -- I want to SEE that cork, at all times !!)

And, a baitcasting model, Shimano Calcutta 250. Mounted on a Castaway, and spooled with 30# Power Pro braid. However, I've had some problems with the line cutting into deeper layers, with heavy fish, so I will be re-spooling with Trilene Big Game.
