COBIA / LEMON FISH


(Rachycentron canadum) First dorsal fin composed of eight strong spines connected by membrane: 2nd dorsal long, anterior portion somewhat elevated; Anal fin similar to 2nd dorsal but smaller. Dark brown fish with two silvery white streaks each side.

Often caught at or near the surface. Favorite baits: Sight casting soft-bodied lures such as beetles & cocahoes, small live catfish (barbs cut off) and crab. Best months in Louisiana: June, July and August. Great eating! White firm meat that will stand up to the grill.
