Breton Island Blast

Highlights from last years’ Rodeo:

Wind was a constant daytime problem for anglers wanting to fish Breton Sound, but the most resourceful and eventual winners turned nocturnal. All the winning specks were caught at night around the Central Rig. The winning trout was over 5 pounds, caught by Jim Hall. Just before the rodeo ended, the crew of the “Fly By Night”, captained by Rudy Hall, entered four bull reds that swept the board. They were caught at the SW Pass rocks on whole white trout and barely made it back before the 6:00 PM closing. Here are some other pictures from past Blasts.

Photos from the past !!!

On days when the winds don’t howl, the Breton Island Blast often has fisherman trying the rigs in West Delta. This 12 pound Mangrove Snapper was caught by John Morise at WD 103 on a whole cigar minnow.

Here’s the winning team of speck fishermen from the 1995 Breton Island Blast. John Morise, captain of the Speck Chaser with mates - Lee “Wino” Wynan, Frank Rawlings, Rudy Hall. It took a trout over five pounds during this rodeo to break into the top five.

John Sasko of Boca Raton, Florida caught this school trout on the inside of Breton Island. On days when the winds have Breton Sound blown into a frenzy, the die hards will have a back-up plan to get “on the board”.

Here’s Chuck Miramon of madisonville with a beautiful speck he hoped would take honors at the 1996 Breton Island Blast. Trout up to seven pounds are routinely entered in the rodeo.
