Thought I was crazy this morning going in 20 mph winds, but I decided to go since I haven't been to Shell Beach in about 3 months. When I passed through Chalmette the flag was barely moving, but that wasn't the case at the launch. Started having my doubts because I saw only 4 other trucks at the lainch this morning. Launched at Campos at about 7:00 and got 30 live shrimp just to be safe. As usual Robert gives a very generous count with the live shrimp because I think I ended up with about 50. They definitely run a first class operation there. Anyway I tried the upper end of Lena's but didn't catch a thing, water was clean and tide was coming in. So at about 8:30 I headed to Stump Lagoon and that was the last stop I needed to make. Fish would come in spurts, but #25 hit the box at about 10:30. Could have skipped the shrimp because the trout were hitting the Gulp just as fast. Caught all of the fish about 24" under a cork. After the trout tried to chase some reds along the shoreline but only ended up with 1. In all it turned out to be a beautiful day. The wind was kicking out of the north but that didn't bother the fish on the north side of Stump. Tomorrow should be a good day so good luck to all those going out. |
