Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

Today, Ricky Ware brought out his pals Paul, Denver, and Steve. Our first stop was near Lake Robin, where my crews have been limiting out early for the last couple of weeks, but this morning, the bite was a lot slower, and the trout were smaller. We moved a bunch of times today, and finally got on a good bite in 4 Horse. We were using live "boogie" minnows from BSM and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork.

It was Steve's first experience with Specks, but he caught on quickly. The guys ended the day with their limit of 100 nice trout and 4 black drum. These are great guys, and they're fishing out of their own boat tomorrow in the Biloxi marsh. They're gonna let me know how they do on their own.

The winter trout action is awesome!! I have some openings left this month, and if you want to get in on some of the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now. ANOTHER QUICK "BUMPY" LIMIT!! For the second time in two weeks, Bump Perrin came out to fill his freezer with trout meat!! Today, he brought along pals Beau and Bubba from Granada, Miss. Beau had previously done some salt water fishing, but Bubba had never caught a trout or a Redfish. It didn't take him long to catch on! We were near Lake Robin, and all it took was one stab of the PowerPole to fill their limit of 75 trout. We were using live "boogie" minnows and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. It was every cast action, with only a few throwbacks. Bubba even got baptized with two monster Reds, one about 18 pounds and one about 20 pounds. He released them both to fight another day. These were great guys, and Bump said if he didn't have to work, he'd be back again next week!!

The winter trout action is outrageous!!! My crews have limited out before 8:30 a.m. every trip the last couple of weeks. If you want to get in on the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!! Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedlae/Delacroix, LA USA

The trout action in Hopedale this past week has been awesome, and with the passing of Ida, it's going to be unbelievable!!! Whenever we have a storm, the influx of good gulf water into the marsh brings in the bait, and the trout go nuts!!
According to the NOAA website, the water level at Shell Beach topped out at about 6 ft. above MLLW and is falling now. Water is still over the road at the junction, and the bridge at Yscloskey is closed. The N/W wind is howling, and should blow the water out from over the road sometime today, allowing me to get down there and start the usual clean up after a storm. From what I can see from readings on the internet, the highest wind gust at Shell Beach was around 52 knots, so any damage should be minimal, except for anyone who had trailers at ground level that didn't move them. One good way to check how high the water is, go to Breton Sound Marina's website and checkout their live dock camera. The water almost topped their fish cleaning tables an the dock, but now is falling.

The trout will be on the rampage for the next couple of weeks, and if you want to see what it's like to fish with a truly PROFESSIONAL GUIDE SERVICE, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now.

QUICK "BUMPY" LIMIT!!! Today, "Bump" Perrin brought along pals Scott, and Dale. The wind wasn't too bad as we left the dock. The forecasted 15 -25 mph looked liked the weatherman had screwed up. But, that was short lived. We headed to Lake Robin, and in no time, the guys were hauling in trout! We were using HYBRID FLURRIES and live "boogie" minnows under a cork. It was every cast action for about 30 minutes, and then the wind picked up and the bite slowed. I moved about 1/4 mile to get out of the wind, and it was on again! The guys shedded the corks, and began tossing the minnows into the current, and the trout were almost ripping the rods away from them. At 7:55 a.m., the guys had their limit of 75 nice trout in the box, and we headed off to find some Reds. The reds weren't hard to find, but keeper Reds were. They caught 26 Reds, all 15 to 15 1/2 inches, but they did manage to catch 3 keeper Reds, almost 25 inches each. It was a great day with great guys. Bump booked another trip next Friday.

The fall trout action is unbelievable! Even on the windiest days, limits of trout are hitting the box!! If you want to get in on some of the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 amd book your charter now! GEORGIA BOYS DO IT AGAIN!!
Today was the second day with my group from Atlanta, Ga. We got a late start due to this morning's downpour, not getting out until 10:30 a.m. Jim decided to stay with family today, leaving Dino and Scott have all the fun. The guys had originally wanted to target Redfish, but as we headed to 4 Horse, we ran into some birds and decided to stop. Well, once the boys from Georgia started slinging trout over the side, they forgot all about Redfish. In about an hour, they had their limit of 50 nice trout on HYBRID FLURRIES and live "boogie" minnows under a cork. These were great guys, and they had a ball catching their limits of trout both days. They said they'll be back again next year.

The fall trout action is awesome!! If you want to get in on some of the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!! As always, no hidden charges, and your fish are cleaned and packaged FREE!!

ANOTHER FALL LIMIT!!! Today, Jim, Scott, and Dino, from Atlanta, Ga. joined me for some outstanding trout action. We started out close to home, and the guys quickly started to catch nice trout. We were using live "boogie" minnows and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. The guys caught 18, and it started to slow down, so we made a move of about 3 miles, and it was on again!! The trout ranged in size from 14 inches up to 3 pounds!! They put 56 in the box, then Jim wanted to get on some Redfish action. We headed over to 4 Horse, and they caught 4 in the 22 to 30 inch range. We headed back over to another close by lake and the guys finished off their limit of 75 pretty trout. I have the same group tomorrow, but we have to see if the rain lets us get out.

The fall trout action is awesome!! Even on windy days, limits have been the norm. If you want to get in on some of the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!

WINDY DAY LIMIT!! Today, Ryan Mouton, from Indianapolis, Indiana, brought along pals Don, Fred, and Milton. We started out near the twin pipelines, and it was slow going at first. We moved about a mile and started catching some nice trout. The bite never was fast, and we had to keep moving, catching 5 here, 10 there. We were using live "boogie" minnows from BSM, and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. It seemed like it actually got colder as the day progressed, and the wind steadily increased also.

It wasn't an easy day, but the guys stuck with it and caught their 100 trout limit. The trout ranged from 13 inches up to 3 pounds. Milton also caught a nice 26 inch Red. These are great guys, and always fun to fish with, even though Ryan wore his "Colts" jacket.

The fall fishing is really heating up, and the trout in the marsh are abundant!! If you want to get in on some of the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!

ANOTHER OCTOBER LIMIT!! Today, Albert Jarreau of Praireville,La., brought along son James, and Pals Jerry and Ed. Ed came in from Canada, and had never experienced the kind of fishing we have here. Well today, he got a baptism under fire!! We started out near the twin pipelines, and caught a couple, but it wasn't fast enough for me. I moved about a mile, and it was on!!! The guys started slinging in the trout, and Ed was beside himself! We were using HYBRID FLURRIES and live "boogie" minnows under a cork. The trout were mixed, from 13 inches up to 2 pounds. After they got their 100 trout limit, we headed off to find some reds. On the way, the Yamaha started making some racket, and we made it in on a blown lower unit. Seems like a seal let go, and those lower units don't hold up well with no oil!! So it was on the trailer and to Dockside Marine for repairs.

The fall fishing is still awesome. My crews have limited out the last 4 trips. I have openings this month, so if you want to get in on some of the best trout action of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 and book your charter now.

BACK TO BUSINESS!!! After a few days off to shoot some doves, I was joined today by "Bondo" Billy Bragg, owner of B-IMPORTS in Mandeville. Billy brought along his golf partner Larry. We stayed close for the first hour, because of some dark clouds lurking to the South. The wind picked up to about 25 or 30 with a little shower that didn't last long. We headed over to a spot near Lake Robin, and it was on!! We were using live "boogie" shrimp from BSM, along with HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. It didn't take the guys long to start hauling in trout. The trout were all nice 15 to 17 inchers. The guys ended the day with their limit of 50 trout along with a limit of Redfish in the 22 to 26 inch range. It was great day, and Billy is one of my best clients, and always fun to fish with.

GREAT DAY WITH SOME GREAT GUYS!! Yesterday, Jeff Patterson of Mobile, Alabama brought along pals Danny and Billy. For a little while, the weather had me worried. As I arrived at my dock, there was a light show going on just to the south, and as I pulled up to BSM to get my daily supply of live "boogie" shrimp, the sky opened up, sending down the rain in buckets!! It only lasted for about 15 minutes, and then the morning turned out great. We made our first stop kind of close in, just to make sure the weather had past, and the guys caught 14 nice trout, but it was a little slow. We headed out to Black Bay, and it was on!! We switched to HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork, and in no time the guys had their limit of 75 trout. We headed back in for some Redfish action, and the guys caught 3, and then the skies got threatening again, and we headed for the barn. Danny and Billy had never caught a Speckled trout before, and they're hooked for sure now. They'll be back soon.

Capt. Jonathan Sanchez helped me out with another group of anglers, and they had a great trip also. Thanks to Capt. Jonathan.

ANOTHER TROUT SLAM!!! Yesterday, Max Jacobs of Mandeville, La. brought along pals Roger, Ross, and Bob. It was a gorgeous morning, cool, with just a slight N/E breeze. We headed out to Black Bay, and it was a one stop trout bonanza!!! We were using HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork, and the guys immediately start slinging in trout from all angles. The trout were all in the 14 to 17 inch range, and the guys missed quite a few, but stll put their 100 trout limit in the box at 9:20 a.m. The guys wanted some redfish action, so off to Lake Robin we went. Max had the hot hand on the Reds catching 3, two of them 29 inches. Roger also caught 2 in the 23 inch range. it was a great day with great guys. They had a ball.

Once again, the trout action is as good as it gets. My crews have been limiting out early every trip. If you want to get in on the best trout fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now.

Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!! Saturday and Sunday I helped Capt. Kerry Audibert with a multi-boat charter. In my boat both days were O.J., Clyde, and Darryl "the Democrat".     Saturday, we fished Lake Machias, and it only took us 3 stops for the guys to fill their limit of 75, 13 to 17 inch trout. We were using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork.
Sunday, O.J. had to leave, so it was only Darryl and Clyde. The wind had shifted to the N/E, and was blowing at a pretty good clip, so we moved over to a spot in Lake Campo, and the action was so fast, it was stupid!! The trout were cartwheeling out of the water and shrimp were jumping everywhere. We were using HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork, and it was every cast action! The guys missed a lot, and should have been finished even earlier, but still, they had their limit of 50 nice 14 to 17 inch trout at 7:30 a.m. We headed inside to get on a couple of Reds, and the guys caught 3 in the 23 to 27 inch range. They wanted to head in early with a 7 1/2 hour drive ahead of them. These were great guys from Alabama, and they had a ball.

The trout action is about as good as it gets!! My crews have been limiting out early every trip!! Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

It was a little "iffy" as we left the dock this morning. There were thunderstorms all around, making quite a light show right before daylight. Today, Jeff Boone, owner of NAPA AUTO PARTS in Slidell, Covington, and Franklinton, joined me and brought along his two pals Mike and Hunter. Our first stop was near Oak River, and it didn't take the guys long to start reeling in the trout. We were using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. The tide was just barely rising when we got there, and after about an hour, it quit and started to fall. The bite quit, but the guys had put 41 nice trout in the box. The storms had pushed off to the East, so we headed out in Black Bay. We made a couple of stops, but nothing. I moved over to Lake Campo, and it was every cast action. It only took the guys about 20 minutes to finish off their 75 trout limit. Jeff is one of my best clients and will be back out next month.

The trout action is still awesome. TROUT FRENZY!! Today, Art Cafeiro of New Orleans, brought along pals David and Al. Our first stop was our only stop!! We headed to the spot near Lake Campo where yesterday's crew had their 100 trout limit by 9:10 a.m., and the action was even faster!! I had just dropped the PowerPole, and David had a nice trout on. We were using HYBRID FLURRIES and live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. The bigger trout actually came on the Flurries! The trout were all in the 14 to 17 inch range, and it was non-stop action. At 8:00 a.m., the guys had their limit of 75 trout in the box, and we headed off to catch a couple of Reds. The guys caught 2, one was a monster 30 incher that David released to fight another day. We made it in early, and just in time to beat a blinding rainstorm. These guys had a ball!

ANOTHER QUICK LIMIT!! Today, Albert Jarreau of Prarieville, La. brought along his sons James and Jerry, and grandson Josh. We started out in Lake Campo, and it didn't take Josh long to reel in the first trout, and it was steady action for about an hour. We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork, along with HYBRID FLURRIES. The guys had 38 in the box, then the tide quit. I ran about 4 miles and found the tide moving there, and it was on again!!! It was every cast action on nice 14 to 17 inch trout, and at 9:10 A.M. the guys had their limit of 100 in the box and were ready to head to the barn. Mr. Albert has been a client for nearly 10 years now, and books at least 8 trips a year. They're always great to fish with.

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!! Yesterday, Rob Paretta of Metairie, La. brought along his two sons, Bobby and Dominic, for some trout action before they returned to school. It started off kind of slow, with a couple of trout here, a couple there, but we couldn't get on a good steady bite. The wind was blowing out of the West, and the tide just wouldn't move. We covered a lot of ground, and at about 10:30 a.m., the wind died, the tide started to move, and it was on!! We were in Lake Campo, and the guys started slinging them over the side! We were using HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. They ended the day with their 75 fish limit of 14 to 17 inch trout.

Today, Jeff Boone, owner of NAPA AUTO PARTS in Slidell, Covington, and Franklinton, joined me with his pals Mike and Pete. We started off in Lake Campo, and it only took 2 stops for the guys to get their limit of 75 nice trout. At 9:10 a.m., we were headed back in to beat the heat. Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

Today, Chad Raegan, owner of CHOP'S ARCHERY in Foxworth, Miss., brought along pals Robert, Tommy and Jerry. Our first stop was on the fringe of Black Bay, and the guys caught 38 nice trout in about an hour, and then the bite quit. We moved about 3 miles to one of the islands, and caught about a dozen more, and the bite quit again. We ran over to Lake Machias, Lake Fortuna, and eventually to a spot near Bay Eloi, and finally it was on!! The guys started slinging them in from all angles. In less than an hour, they finished off their limit of 100 nice trout. All of the trout were caught on HYBRID FLURRIES in the "magic minnow" color and live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. These guys were great to fish with, and we talked about bow hunting most of the day. Oh, and a little about fishing too!

The trout bite has been a little slow the last couple of days, but if you move around and try different areas, you'll get them. We have been getting limits, but you have to work for them.

CLEAN FLEET CLEANUP!!! Today, Mark Heyman, owner of CLEAN FLEET AUTO BODY in Metairie, brought along pals Bubba and Brandon. We started out at an island in Black Bay, and the guys were catching some nice trout, but it wasn't real fast. Bubba brought along his brand new Zebco, and it was getting a real workout! We were using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. Around 7 a.m. I got a call on the radio from my buddy and fellow HYBRID Pro staffer Capt. Kerry Audibert who was about a mile away fishing a rig. Kerry said he was almost finished their limit of 100 trout and called me over. We had 20 nice trout in the box, but headed over anyway, and the guys quickly finished off their limit of 75 trout. Thanks to Capt. Kerry.

TROUT FRENZY!!! Today, Albert Jarreau of Prairieville, La. brought along his two sons, Jerry and James, and pal Al. We started out early in Lake Campo where I have been limiting out the last couple of trips, but this morning it was a little slow. After 30 minutes and only 10 trout, I decided to run further out in Black Bay to one of the islands. After 15 minutes and no action, I decided to move to another island, and it was a good move! It was every cast, non-stop  action. We were using HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork, and it was unbelievably fast!! In one hour, the guys finshed off their limit of 100 trout, despite having to stop a couple of times for me to re-tie their lines due to some pesky sharks. A couple of times they reeled in only a trout's head! It was some of the fastest action so far this year. The trout were all in the 13 to 17 inch range. Mr. Albert has been coming out with me for almost 10 years now, and he'll be back soon.

The summer trout frenzy is at it's feverish peak!! WINDY LIMIT!! Today, Jack and Genie Dyer of New Orleans joined me for some hot trout action. My "plan A" was swiftly aborted as soon as we hit Lake Robin this morning. The West wind was blowing pretty good, so I opted to stay in inside waters. Our first stop near Lake Campo yielded 26 trout, but the going was slow. We were using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. I decided to make a move, and it proved to be a good one. I ran to a spot in Oak River bay, and it was non-stop action on the HYBRIDS. The trout were all in the 13 to 17 inch range, and it didn't take long for them to finish off their limit of 50 trout. We ran about 2 miles to a redfish spot, and they caught 2 Reds about 22 inches and 2 Black Drum. Jack and Genie are regulars and always fun to fish with, and will be back soon.

I have openings in July, and don't let the heat keep you from getting in on the hottest trout action of the year. My crews have been limiting out early on trout, and getting in before it gets too hot. LATE START, BUT STILL AN EARLY LIMIT!! Today, Chet Hingle of Covington, and his 11 yr. old son Ethan joined me for a trout slam!! Chet was running a little late this morning, like 45 minutes, and the sun was already peeking up as we left the dock. I headed over to Lake Campo, and it was a slam dunk on nice 14 to 17 inch trout. We were using HYBRID FLURRIES, under a cork, and the trout were ripping them. Young Ethan was having a ball, and I do think he caught more than his dad. At 8 a.m. they had their limit of 50 trout, and we moved about 2 miles, and they started getting their line stretched with some big Reds. They caught and released 5 over 27 inches. Little Ethan had a sore arm when we were done.

I have openings in July, and the trout action is as good as it gets. Call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!! As always, no hidden charges, and your fish are cleaned and packaged FREE!!

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!!
Yesterday, I helped Capt. Jonathan Sanchez with a multi-boat charter. In my boat was Steve, Glenn, Kathy and 13 year old Nichole. It was a one stop shopping day. I dropped the Powerpole once and the gang started slinging trout in. It took only a little schooling for this group of inexperienced anglers, but they were fishing like pros in no time. Young Nichole was the star, outfishing everyone. We were using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES under a cork. They ended the day early with their limit of 100 nice trout!!

Today, Kim Schexnider of Prairieville, La. brought along Mark, Pete, and Bart. Just as yesterday, it was a one stop day. It was the same spot in Lake Campo, and using live "boogie" shrimp and HYBRID FLURRIES, the gang had their limit of 100 nice trout by 9:30 a.m. We were back in early and beat the heat.

The trout action is as good as it gets. I have openings in July, but they're going fast. If you want to get in on the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!! Beware of "weekend" guides boasting cheap rates. ANOTHER STEAMY LIMIT!!! Today, the second group from AIR LIQUIDE in Gonzales, La. came out and scored an early limit of trout. Aboard was Frank, Tony, Tim, and Loren. Today was one of those days when the wind was absolutely null and void. I told the guys as we left the dock that we better limit early, 'cause it's gonna be a scorcher. Our first stop in Lake Campo yielded 36 trout, but it wasn't real fast, so I decided to head out to Black Bay and find some faster action. It was a good move, because these guys started slinging trout in over the side on every cast. We were using HYBRID FLURRIES in the Magic Minnow color under a cork. It didn't take them long to get their 100 trout limit, and then we made a move to get on a couple of Reds before it got too hot. The guys had a bet on the biggest Red with the other group, and Tim caught a nice 10 1/2 pound 29 incher he later released. He took the big Red prize, and the guys caught 4 more before waiving the white flag. This was a great bunch of guys, and they're going to make it an annual outing with GET-AWAY CHARTERS.

Don't let the heat keep you from experiencing the best fishing of the year. My crews have been limiting out early on trout before it get's steamy. ANOTHER HOT SUMMER LIMIT!!! Today was the first day of a two day charter with groups from AIR LIQUIDE in Gonzales, La. Today's group included Ron, Doug A., Nathan, and Doug E.
The tide was extremely low as we left the dock this morning, wintertime low. The West wind was blowing a little, so I opted for plan "B", and it was a good decision. We headed over to a spot in Lake Campo, and our first stop yeilded 26 nice trout in the 14 to 17 inch range. We moved about a mile, and it was on again. It wasn't real fast action, but it was steady action. We were using Hybrid Flurries in the "Magic Minnow" color and live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. The guys ended the day with their limit of 100 nice trout, and the second group will be with me on Thursday. This was the first time this company has booked with me, and they said it will be an annual event. These were great guys.

I have openings in July, and the trout action is about as good as it gets. If you want to get in on the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now. Come and see what it's like to fish with a truly PROFESSIONAL guide service.

Today, Mike Goff of Mandeville, La. brought along his 11 year old son Patrick and his 14 year old daughter Madison who was celebrating her birthday by catching some speckled trout. It was one of those days when you just couldn't get a really good bite going. Our first stop was in Lake Coquiile at an island, and the crew picked up 23 nice trout, and then it was "hardhead city". We moved a couple of miles over to Lake Campo, and caught a few more on Hybrid Flurries under a cork. The trout were in the 13 to 17 inch range. After a few more stops, they had put 54 in the box, and young Patrick wanted to catch a redfish. I headed over to a spot in Lake Robin, and they caught 3 in the 20 to 27 inch range. The kids had a ball, and Madison now has the permanent title of "catfish queen".

I have some openings in July, but they're going fast. If you want to get in on the best trout action of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now. As always, no hidden charges, and your fish are cleaned and packaged FREE!!

LIMIT ON VIDEO!!! Today, Mike Lane came aboard and filmed an episode of SPORTSMAN'S PARADISE. I brought out one of my best clients, Jeff Boone, owner of NAPA AUTO PARTS in Covington, Slidell, and Franklinton, and his pal Lenny Basille. I wanted to get Jeff and Lenny on film hauling in some of those 2 to 4 pound trout we've been catching, but it wasn't meant to be. The "curse of the camera" got us, and the big trout just wouldn't turn on this morning. I ran and made 3 stops before getting on the trout. We were in the Lake Campo area, and when they turned on, they really turned on!! We were using Hybrid Flurries in the "magic minnow" color under a cork. I just started using Hybrids, but I'm sold on them now. They have great action, and really hold up. We ended the day with 60 nice trout in the 14 to 17 inch range. The action was hot and heavy for a while, with the guys slinging trout after trout over the side. It was a great day with great guys, and I had a ball with Mike, and he got some really good footage. Jeff and Lenny really did a good job on camera!! Thanks again Mike>

JUST WHEN YOU THINK YOU'VE SEEN IT ALL!! Today, Brian Jones of Baton Rouge, brought along his lovely wife Jill, and Father-in-Law Pete. We headed out early to an island in Black Bay, only to find 2 boats already on the spot I wanted to fish. Not to disturb either boat, I stopped far out and put the trolling motor down and crept in about 90 yards from a boat on the point, far enough away, but close enough to keep another boat from getting in between us. We immediately started catching pretty 2 to 4 pound trout. The guys on the point were catching them too. After about 20 minutes, one boat left, but we and the guys in the other boat were still catching. Here comes one of those inconsiderate #$#@%^*&s and moves right onto the point, right where those guys were casting. Needless to say, it was over for them. We were still catching one after the other, and this guy tried to move in on us too, but couldn't get to where we were casting. It was steady non-stop action, until another ye-ha comes within 60 yards of us and of all things, starts throwing a cast net!!! I don't know if he was trying to catch bait, because the mullets he was throwing over were all a foot long!! I'm not one to raise a fuss in front of clients, but I was pretty peeved. Needless to say, our bite quit, but not before we had 49 in the box. It always seems like Saturdays are "idiot day". This brain surgeon also had three youngsters in the boat, none could have been older than 10, and one looked like he was about 6, and none of them had a life jacket on!!

We headed off about 5 miles to another island, and the gang started hauling them in again. The trout were a little smaller, in the 15 to 17 inch range, but the crew finished off their limit of 75, and we headed in to beat the heat. We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork.

Guys, when it comes down to it, if everyone practiced the "do unto others" deal, everyone could catch fish. There's plenty to go around without spoiling someone else's action.

The summer trout action is awesome!!! I'm all booked up for June, but I have quite a few openings in July. TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!! Yesterday, Frank Prisk of Columbia, Ms., brought along Josh, Jake, and Tony. The morning started off with a pretty good chop, churning up the water at the island we had limited out early on the day before. We moved around quite a bit, but never got on a really good bite until we stopped on one of the islands in Black Bay. It was on for about an hour, and they were all good 1 to 3 pound trout. Josh had never caught a speckled trout before, and wound up with blisters from reeling them in. The guys ended the day with 81 nice trout caught on live "boogie" shrimp under a cork.

Today, Trevor Graves of Columbia, Ms. brought along Logan, Warren, and Adam, aka "perchjerker". We started off at the same island we hammered the trout on yesterday, and the guys caught 75, 1 to 3 pound trout, and then the bite quit. I moved about 3 miles to a rig, and it was on again,  the trout were smaller, but it was every cast action. At 8:55 a.m. the guys put their limit of 100 in the box and we headed for the barn, beating the scorching heat. The water was dead calm today, with not a drop of wind. What a great day with great guys.

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!!! Yesterday, one of my long time regular clients, Albert Jarreau of Prairieville. La. brought along his son James, grandson, Jarret, and pal Jerry. It was one of those mornings that sometime make you say "what's the problem?" We had good tide movement, very little wind, but every place we stopped, only yielded a fish here, one there!! We ran around Black Bay, fishing islands, rigs, birds, but at 10:00 a.m., we only had 16 trout in the 1 to 3 pound range. After a lot of gas, I decided to head over to an island where we had started, and the guys finally started to sling some over the side. We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. We got in a little later than usual, but the guys ended the day with a respectable box of 78 nice trout.

Today, Brad Eddings of Metairie, La., brought along hid Dad, Pat. and pal Rob. It was quite different than yesterday, I stuck the Powerpole once, and at 7:50 a.m., the one stop trout shopping spree was over when number 75 hit the box. We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork, and the trout were all 1 to 2 pounds. We ran in to try for a couple of Reds, but after a couple of stops, the guys decided to head in early. These guys had a ball!!

I still have 3 openings left in June, and the trout action is about as good as it gets!! EARLY DAY AT THE OFFICE!!! Today, "Bondo" Billy Bragg, owner of B-IMPORTS in Mandeville, brought along pals Tommy and Chris. We headed out to Black Bay before the crack of dawn, and our first stop near Lake Campo, only produced small trout. We moved about 4 miles to an island, and it was non stop action!! We were using live "boogie" shrimp and soft plastics under a cork. These guys were slinging in trout at me from all angles. The trout weren't monsters, but in the 14 to 18 inch range. At 7:40 a.m. number 75 hit the box. We ran in to find a couple of Reds for the grill, but the tide was non-existant. Tommy did manage to catch one 20 inch red. Billy is one of my best regular clients, booking over 10 trips a year. These guys had a ball. and it's always fun with Billy in the boat. He'll be back soon.

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!! The past two days, I had the Dennis Ratliff group of 9 anglers from Rome, Georgia. Helping me out with this group was Capt. Jonathan Sanchez and Capt. Kerry Audibert. This group had a ball, and caught more trout than ever have on previous trips here. Capt. Jonathan and Capt. Kerry fished the Breton Sound side, while I fished the Delacroix area, and we all loaded the boat with trout. The group caught over 375 trout in the two days, and had sore arms from the action. This group will definitely be back next year. Thanks to Capt. Kerry and Capt. Jonathan for a great job!!

ANOTHER TROUT SLAM!!!! Today, Steve Schluter, owner of CORPORATE Lightning in Metairie, brought along pals Robert, Harry, and Chase. The wind was dead calm for a change as we headed out to Black Bay to greet the sunrise. It was a two stop shopping spree. We stopped at one of the islands, and the guys started hurling in nice 2 and 4 pound trout over the side. We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. The guys quickly caught 57 and the bite quit. I moved about 3 miles to another island, and it was on again, this time the trout were a little smaller, in the 15 to 17 inch range, but it was every cast action!! At 8:55 a.m., the guys put their limit of 100 trout in the box, and we headed back in for some Redfish action. The guys caught 9, ranging from 20 to 30 inches long. What a super day!! HERE COME DA JUDGE!!!  Today, I had the pleasure of fishing with Tom Wilson of New Orleans, and his lovely wife, New Orleans Criminal Court Judge Laurie White. We headed out to Black Bay first thing, and our first stop yielded 12 nice trout, but it was a little slow. With the wind down for a change, we headed out to one of the rigs, only to find dirty river water. We moved about 3 miles to cleaner water, and it was on!!! The trout were in the 14 to 17 inch range, and they quickly got their 50 trout limit on live "boogie" shrimp, and Exude curlytail grubs under a cork. Her honor wanted to catch some reds, and in fear of being held in contempt, I gladly obliged. We headed over to Lake Robin, and on the very first cast, a nice red came up and inhaled Tom's cork. They quickly caught a limit in the 20 to 27 inch range, and waived the white flag. What a great day with great folks. Tom and Laurie are always fun to fish with and they'll be back next month.

TWO DAY TROUT SLAM!!!!! Yesterday and today I had the Ricky Ware group from Jackson, Miss. It's been about 7 years since Ricky has fished with me, and he brought along his pals Paul, Bryant, and Denver. And, like By Hek use to say,(I'm really telling my age now), we put "the ants" on the big trout!!
The wind has been cooperating the past few days, so yesterday, we headed out to Black Bay to one of my favorite rigs. For some reason, the tide wouldn't hardly move, and pickings were slow at first. The guys caught only 14 in the first hour, so we moved to a nearby island, and it was on!!! We were using live "boogie" shrimp and EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork. They put their limit of 100 nice trout in the box, and we headed in to catch a couple of Reds.

Today, it was a little "iffy" as we left my dock, as there was a storm in the southeast. When we got close to Black Bay, I had to take a detour around the storm, dodging a waterspout in the process. We made it out to one of the islands, and the big trout were slamming the live shrimp. The guys quickly caught 69 trout in the 1 1/2 to 3 pound range and when they quit, we moved about 2 miles and finished their limit of 100 trout just in time to get in before the heavens opened up. Back at the dock at 9:30 a.m. with 100 big trout, and staying dry. These guys were a hoot to fish with, and I know they'll be back soon.

The summer trout action is awesome right now. My crews have caught 375 trout in 4 trips. I have only a couple of openings left this month, and if you want to get in on the best fishing of the year, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!!! BIG TROUT!!! Yesterday, one of my best clents, Albert Jarreau of Prairieville, La. brought along his son James, and pals Joe and Paul. We headed out to Black Bay, and it was a little choppy in the morning, so we stopped off at a close in island. and the big trout were there! We were using live "boogie" croakers and minnows under a cork. The trout were all 1 1/2 to 3 pounds, with most in the 3 pound range. The bite didn't last that long though, but it lasted long enough for the guys to put 42 in the boat. These were consistantly biggest trout we've caught so far this summer, and it's only gonna get better! Albert will be back next week.

MOTHER'S DAY TROUT SLAM!!! Finally, the wind gave us a break today, and I was able to get where I needed to go. Today, Mark Heyman, owner of CLEAN FLEET AUTO BODY in Metairie, brought along his wife Annette, and his pal Ryan. On our way out to Black Bay, I made a quick stop in Lake Coquille, and it proved to be a worthwhile hunch. The water had cleared up, and the gang quickly started slinging in nice trout. At 7:45 the bite stopped, but by that time, they had 38 nice trout in the box. We headed out to one of the islands in Black Bay, and it was on again. We were using live "boogie" croakers and EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork. All the trout were beautiful 1 to 3 pounders, and the guys ended the day with their limit of 75. It was a great day, and I wish the wind would cooperate like this every day, it would make my job a whole lot easier!

Capt. George Ricks / GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

WINDY TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!!! I haven't been posting reports, I just returned from a much needed mini-vacation in Panama City, Florida. The winds the last couple of days have been brutal, making finding clean water a real chore. Yesterday, Gordon Rogillio of Baton Rouge joined me, and after quite a few stops we finally hit paydirt. We were off Oak River near the twin pipelines hiding from the wind. The tide just didn't seem to move right for some reason, rising early, then quitting. We were using live "boogie" croakers under a cork. The trout were all nice, in the 1 to 2 lb. range. We ended the day with 32.

Today, Frank Endom of Baton Rouge brought along his pal Robert. The wind shifted slightly to the S/W, and unfortunately blew even harder than yesterday. The incoming tide was really rolling in, and the water was pretty stirred up everywhere. After a few stops, we headed over to Round Lake to a spot I hadn't fished in a while and started catching some really nice trout for inside. We were "freelining" live croakers in about 6 feet of water. It was a real subtle bite, but after a while with a little coaching, the guys were reeling them in. They ended the day with 34 trout in the 1 to 3 pound range. Not a bad day considering the nasty wind.

Even on windy days, you can still catch a nice box of trout. The big trout are out at the islands, and when this wind lays, limits will come easy. I have only a few openings left in May, and June is booking up faster than usual. If you want to get in on the great summer trout action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280 and book your charter now. Come and see what it's like to fish with an experienced, truly PROFESSIONAL guide service.

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!!!Yesterday, Trent Kuwalsky, who's in the Navy and stationed in Virginia, brought out his Dad George, and brother Wes. The S/W wind wasn't too bad as we left the dock, but that was short lived. We headed out near Black Bay where I have been catching good trout the last couple of trips, but the water had dirtied up quite a bit. We hit quite a few spots, and never really did get on a fast bite, but the guys fished hard and ended the day with 38 nice trout, all caught on Exude curlytail grubs under a cork. This was their first time out with me, and they had a ball.

Today, I had three generations of fishermen on the boat. Bill Sr., Bill Jr, along with 13 year old William, and 9 year old Chris. The weatherman really blew this one. I saw North winds at 5 to 10 on the marine forecast, but we wound up with 15 to 25. We hit 4 spots before we hit paydirt near Oak River Bay. Young Chris and William got a real workout. As tough as conditions were, they hung in there. We were using EXUDE grubs and live "boogie" minnows under a cork. The guys wound up with 74 nice trout, with a couple over 3 pounds! Not bad for a day like today. Bill Sr. is one of my frequent clients, and will be back soon. These kids had a great time.

I have only a couple of openings left this month, and the trout action is really heating up! If this wind ever gives us a break, limits will come easy. The big trout are out near the islands, but the wind needs to cooperate. Even on windy days though, you can still catch a good box of trout. If you want to cash in on some of this great early spring trout fishing, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!! As always, no hidden charges, and your fish are cleaned and packaged FREE!!!!

WINDY, BUT STILL A LIMIT!!! Today, "Bondo" Billy Bragg, owner of B-IMPORTS in Mandeville, La. brought along his pal Tommy. Billy has been laid up from knee surgery for the past 2 months, and had cabin fever really bad. He couldn't wait to get back with me and catch some trout. I'll have to admit, even I was a little sceptical of catching a lot of trout this morning with the weather the way it has been the last couple of days. The water temp dropped 10 degrees from the other day, and our first two stops yielded nothing. I moved to a spot near Black Bay, to get out of the strong south wind, and we started catching some nice trout. We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork, and live "boogie" minnows. The bite wasn't fast, but the guys caught 25, and then they quit. I moved about a mile, and they got back on them, and finished off their limit of 50 trout. They were in the 14 to 17 inch range, with only 2 throwbacks. It's good to have Billy back. He's one of my best clents, and he'll be back soon.

The trout action is really heating up. Even on windy days you can put together a limit of trout. The trout are moving this time of year, and you have to move too!!

I have only a few openings left this month, and if you want to get in on some great springtime trout action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 and book your charter now!!! Come and fish with a truly PROFESSIONAL guide service.

WINDY DAY AT HOPEDALE!! Today, Mark Roberts came all the way from Utah for some local business, and decided to try out some Louisiana trout action while he was here. He brought along pal and co worker Duncan from Florida. The East wind was already howling when we left the dock, so it was hide and seek trying to stay out of it and find clean water. We hit quite a few areas from Lake Amadee to Four Horse, to the edges of Black Bay. We were using plastics and live "boogie" minnows under a cork. It was four or five fish here and there, and we never did get a good steady bite going, but these guys were good fishermen and fished hard. They ended the day with 39 trout from 14 inches up to 2 pounds, along with 2 Redfish. Not a bad day with the windy conditions.

The spring trout fishing is heating up, and is getting better every day. I have some openings next week, and if you want to get in on some of this early spring action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (85)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW. ANOTHER SPRING TROUT SLAM!!! Today, Albert Jarreau of Prairieville, La. brought along his son Jerry, and pal Al. If was kinda "iffy" this morning because of when this front was going to come through and bring the rain, but Ole Bob Breck was right on the money. Albert wanted some big trout, so I opted to make the long run to a spot near Oak River where I have been catching some good trout. As soon as Al's first cast hit the water, he had a nice 2 pound trout on. We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork. The bite never was really fast, but in about an hour and a half, the guys managed to put 32 trout in the box between 1 1/2 and 3 pounds. We then headed over toward Bay Lafourche, and I decided to stop at a spot in Oak River, and it was every cast action. The trout were smaller, and there were a few throwbacks, but the guys finished off their 75 trout limit just in time to beat the rain. As soon as I pulled into my slip the rain started. Albert has been coming out with me for almost 10 years now, and will be back soon.

The early spring trout bite is really heating up. My crews have caught 145 trout in the last two trips, and it's only gonna get better if this weather stays warm. I have some openings left this month, and if you want to get in on some great trout action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!! TROUT EXTRACTION!!! Today, Dr. Mark Schott, AKA "The left handed Dentist", brought along his daughter Rachel, and her boyfriend Dan. Dan is from London, England, and had never caught a fish before. Well, today he got a baptism under fire! We started out in Black Bay, but the tide was almost non-existant. The gang managed to catch 22 nice trout in the 1 to 3 pound range, and then they quit. For some reason, despite the stiff S/E wind, the tide wouldn't move. I decided to run to a spot near Oak River, and it was on!! The trout weren't as big as the trout we were on earlier, and there were a few throwbacks, but it was every cast action. We were using EXUDE grubs under a cork. Dan was reeling 'em in like Bill Dance after a while, but I have to say, Rachel whipped up on him pretty good. They ended the day with 70 nice trout.

The spring trout action is heating up to a frenzy. I have openings next week, and if you want to get in on some great, early spring trout action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS,(985)630-2923 OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!! EARLY SPRING TROUT!!! Today, Mark Heyman, owner of CLEAN FLEET AUTO BODY in Metairie, joined me on a morning trout hunt. I ran a good ways to an area I hadn't fished in a couple of years. This area is off Oak River, and used to hold some good trout this time of year. It didn't look the same as I remembered, last year's storms changed it quite a bit, but the trout were still there!! We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork, and live "boogie" minnows. It only took 3 casts for us to start flinging some nice trout in  the boat. The trout were all in the 1 1/2 to 3 pound range. The action wasn't every cast, and we had to move a little, but Mark had a ball catching trout this size this time of year. We ended the day with 30 (5 for me), and one 25 inch Red. Not a bad day for one of the toughest months of the year. It was a perfect weather day, with just enough breeze to keep the gnats off.

The weather is getting warmer, and that means the trout action is heating up too!!! The trick is catching the right weather days, and the rest of the weekend looks warm also.

I have openings next week, and while limits are not the norm right now, there's still plenty of action. If you want to get in on some of it, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923, OR (601)799-4280 AND BOOK YOUR CHARTER NOW!

Capt. George Ricks/ GET-AWAY CHARTERS

Hopedale/Delacroix, LA USA

I can't help but jump in on this left hand - right hand reel discussion, since I deal with mostly inexperienced fisherman, and have this discussion every day. First off, bait casting reels are designed different from spinning reels. The balance, as well as the function of both reels is different. Bait casting reels are mounted on top of the rod, and spinning reels are mounted on the bottom, making the balance of each rig different. Where most people make a mistake with spinning reels, is they try to "crank" or "winch" the fish in. With spinning gear, you should fight the fish with 95 percent rod, and only 5 percent reel. A spinning reel was not designed to winch a fish in. If you find yourself getting a lot of line twist on your spinning reel, it's because you are reeling against the drag. Because of the way baitcasting reels are designed, you can crank a fish in with no line twist, because the line comes off the spool in a different way.
When it comes to fishing, old habits are hard to break. It comes down to what you are comfortable with. But, the correct way is, if you are right handed and using spinning tackle, you should reel with your left. You fight the fish mainly with the rod, so it should be in your strong hand. With baitcasters, it's just the opposite. I have been fishing for 50 years, 20 of them professionally, so I hope this helps with some of your confusion.........Capt. George

FEBRUARY TROUT FRENZY!! Today, Mark Heyman, owner of CLEAN FLEET AUTO BODY in Metairie, La. brought along his wife Annette, and his brother Ned. We started out in Hopedale Lagoon where I had caught my limit on Tuesday, but only 1 small trout. We moved about 4 miles, and it was non-stop action. We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs under a cork about 2 feet deep. But, there was a trick to getting the trout to hit. If you just casted and "popped" the cork, you wouldn't get a bite. You had to make 4 or 5 quick turns on the reel and stop, dragging the bait about 5 or 6 feet and "bang", you'd get a hit! No dragging, no bite!! Sometime these trout this time of year are kinda like women; They want what they want, the way they want it!! At 9:10 a.m., they put their limit of 75 nice trout in the box. We headed off over to Lake Calabasse to search for some Reds and caught one, and a few puppy drum, but never could get on a good redfish bite. It was a great day with great people. Mark is a long time client of mine, fishing with me for over 10 years now. They'll be back soon.
With the weather warming a little, the trout have really turned on. Getting the right weather day is crucial. If you want to get in on some late winter trout action, call me at GET-AWAY CHARTERS, (985)630-2923 or (601)799-4280, and book your charter now. I have openings next week, and it looks like the weather may stay reasonably warm.

The winter trout action in Hopedale is at it's best. The trick is getting a decent weather day. Two trips last week yielded 175 nice trout on soft plastics and live boogie shrimp under a cork. Lake Robin, and Hopedale lagoon are as far as you have to go. My next trip is on Saturday and I'll keep you posted on the results.
I'd like to take this time to wish all my clients, friends, and Mike and the crew from RodnReel, a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year.

TWO DAY HOPEDALE REPORT!! Yesterday, Steve Schluter of Metairie,La., owner of CORPORATE LIGHTING, brought along his son Jeff, and pals Tommy and James. The fog wasn't the problem I thought it would be, but we still started close to the dock. It didn't take long for the guys to start reeling in some nice trout. We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs and live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. It was pretty fast action for about an hour, and the guys quickly put 51 in the box and then they quit. We moved about 3 miles, and got on them again for another hour, and then they quit again. We made a few more moves, but the action really slowed. The guys fished hard, and finally at 12:15 number 100 hit the box. Steve fishes with me quite a bit, and will be back on Dec. 27.

Today, Jeff Boone, owner of NAPA AUTO PARTS in Slidell and Covington, brought along pals Mike and Michael. Again, we started close, but only managed 19 before they quit, We moved over to Lake Robin, and it was on!!! We were using live "boogie" shrimp under a cork, and then switched to the plastic . It was non stop action, and the guys caught their 75 trout limit at 9:10 a.m. The trout ranged from 14 inches up to 2 pounds. We then headed off to find some hungry Reds, and Mike landed a big 15 pound red that was released to fight another day. What a great day with great guys.

The winter trout action is at it's peak!! Limits come easy on good weather days. I cancelled Sunday's trip, it looks like it's gonna be a bust with rain and high winds.

ANOTHER WINTER TROUT SLAM!!! Yesterday, Eddie Murphy of Covington, La. (not to be confused with Norbit), brought along his two pals, Bill and Martin. It was a little nippy as we left the dock, so I figured I'd take it a little easy on the guys, and make the first stop only 5 minutes from the dock. On his second cast, Martin brought in a nice 2 pound trout, and Eddie soon followed. We were using EXUDE curlytail grubs and live "boogie" shrimp under a cork. The guys caught 27, all in the 1 1/2 to 2 pound range, and then the bite quit. I moved about 2 miles, and it was back on!!! These trout were a little smaller, in the 14 to 15 inch range, but it was steady action, and the guys finished off their limit of 75 trout at 9:40 a.m. It was just in time, because the wind started to howl. Eddie and his crew are regulars, always fun to fish with, and will be back soon.

The winter trout action is awesome!!! Catching the right weather day this time of year is the key.
