St. Bernard, LA 70085 USA Phone1: 985-630-2923 Phone2: 504-427-3248 Email: george15fish@aol.com Born and raised in New Orleans, George Ricks began fishing at the age of six at his family’s camp on Lake Catherine. While not fishing, he was hunting in the marshes for rabbits or ducks, or trapping muskrat or nutria."I come from a long line of fishermen," Ricks said. "My father would take me out almost every day along the shorelines of Lake Pontchartrain near the Rigolets, and we would load up on speckled trout on redfish." As he grew older, Ricks expanded his fishing areas to include the Violet, Hopedale and Delacroix marshes, which included the structures of Black Bay. He also learned the areas of Buras and Empire. In his later years, Ricks fishing turned to freshwater, as he found bass fishing somewhat more of a challenge. In 1975, he began fishing local bass tournaments and discovered that he had a natural ability to find and catch these fish. He retired from his job as a New Orleans firefighter in 1991 after 22 years, and began touring on the prestigious BASSMASTER Tournament Trail – the NFL of competitive fishing circuits. He later began writing for Louisiana Outdoors Magazine, and personally appeared on the cover four times. "In 1999 I grew tired of touring and decided to go back to my saltwater roots with speckled trout and redfish, and try my hand at guiding," Ricks said. After getting his captains license, Ricks went to work with a well-known charter captain, fishing more than 280 days a year. "Now I’ve decided it’s time to go on my own and start my own charter service," Ricks said. "I love teaching people to fish, and passing on the knowledge I have gained over the years. Fishing is what I do. It’s a full-time occupation – and a labor of love." ![]() [Home Page] [About The Area] [Gear & Lodging] [YOUR CAPTAIN] [Fishing Reports] [Photo Gallery] For advertising information click here. | Email LA Fishing & Hunting Our high speed connection to the Internet is provided by Broadband IP All content on this site Copyright 1995-2009 Rigs, Reefs & Wrecks Inc. |
