<Bear21> Thanks for Joining us CApt Mike and If you need any help with anything just ask :)

<teaserboat> looks tough suppose to have strong winds from the north

<NOMAD> the specks start outside yet?

<Cypress> Thats what I was afraid of.

<Doody> don't believe all them weathermen

<Snoman_> I heard that!!!

<teaserboat> yes the specks have started outside: Breton, Cocodrie and Empire good reports

<Snoman_> Don't wanna say what I think of a certain weatherman at this moment!

<chance> Capt. Mike, When do you expect the kings to show up? And do you live bait ' em or use lures?

<Lindavj> capt. mike, what is the proper distance for your line behind the boat when trolling for tuna

<Doody> snowman i don't lie

<Cypress> Will that wind mess up the fishing at the Passes?

<Snoman_> lol

<Kirk-> slow down guys and gals

<Kirk-> give him time to anwser please

<teaserboat> First the kings yes I do use live as well as dead bait Live hardtails and pogies as well as daed ribbon fish slow trolled

<chance> thanks

<whale> Capt.Mike what is your alltime favorite lure to pull for yellowfins

<BUSTER> HAVE YOU SEEN ANY MARLIN YET CAPTAIN MIKE?

<teaserboat> The proper distance behind the boat for tuna depends on the boat A long line with a bird and surface bait works great this should be about 150 back then stagger lines approx. 20-30 ft intervals back to the boat this will avoid tangles, but most imp. is to keep the surface baits in clean water, not prop wash, now the trolling pugs, I have caught many in the wheel wash

<teaserboat> Yes we have already seen marlin, looks lige a GREAT year

<King-Fish> When do you forcast the cobia to come in....and how do you think this year will be?

<teaserboat> Best bai has always been a RAPALA with A trembler cose second. Strtches are gppd but if I am going to fish deep then I prefer to use downriggers

<Lindavj> Capt Mike with a 50TW what would you recommend for line and what lbs for the leader and how long should your leader be for tuna

<whale> thanks

<the_keeper> 1st things 1st Mike. Sell channel 8 another package of your shows-please!!!

<teaserboat> Cobia are already showing up at Ship Shoas and S. Timb. And expect to be booming by late May early June with this warm weather

<King-Fish> thanks

<Fishead> Are you using circle hooks when fishing for snapper?

<Snoman_> lol keeper..

<teaserboat> As far as my shows they HAVE new shows but have not run them I NEED EVERYONE TO CALL FOX 8 and ask for new Outdoor adventure shows with Mike Frenette as I am trying to get a time slot of 10:30 on Sun. Night but they will listen to the public more thatn me By the way thanks for watching

<Barney> Capt Mike, We have a trip scheduled with you in mid April. What differant kinds of fish should we be able to catch....our main goal is of course tuna and wahoo

<NOMAD> will do mike

<Snoman_> If that's what we need to do.. 5:30am is early when not going fishing!

<teaserboat> Did I loose everyone?

<Snoman_> got a number Mike?

<Doody> mike your a.m. shows are greatly appreciated at BSM

<NOMAD> no we are still here

<teaserboat> number is 486-6161 and make those phones ring!!! have all your friends call lets see the power of the net and calls in#'s

<Lindavj> Capt. Mike with a 50TW what lb line should I use and what lb. for leader for tuna

<the_keeper> 10:30 is past my bedtime_ but my day starts with your show at 5:30. I will be in contact w/them

<Snoman_> will certainly do! It will definately beat the hell outta ER!

<Cypress> Capt. Mike. Have a trip to Venice planned for this weekend. Any suggestions for staying out of the wind. Like any of the passes? Or should we plan for another weekend?

<teaserboat> 50lb. line will be fine. If you are trolling size of the leader will not matter if you are chumming then you may have to use ligfhter lines especiaaly when the water is clear

<Lindavj> thanks

<Snoman_> hey bear..

<Bear21> Back Sorry

<chance> Capt. Mike, there is going to be an SKA tournment out of Venice this summer. Have you ever fished one and would you be agreeable to that type of charter?

<guest20441> snow man r yall there

<Snoman_> yeah..

<teaserboat> it should be nice other than possible wind and you never know with that S.W. Pass plenty of reds and drum mud lumps trout and reds and behind the wagon wheel nice trot and reds the rick is clean water

<Snoman_> brb

<Fishead> Are you using circle hooks when snapper fishing

<Doody> Capt. Mike what is your feelings about inside fishing for this summer?

<NOMAD> Mike where should a new angler to venice go for reds on a fly and when

<teaserboat> sorry about the spellin trying to go fast

<Kirk-> No Problem

<HC> Teaser man chumming circlehook or standard?

<Kirk-> no dictionaries allow here mike!

<NOMAD> lol

<Cypress> Thanks Captain

<Doody> we communicate in short hand-

<whale> we all type in cyberebonics sometimes

<Barney> Capt Mike, we have a trip scheduled with you in mid April, what differant types of fish should we be able to catch......our main goal will be tuna and wahoo

<Lindavj> Capt Mike if you use circle hooks for snapper what size do you prefer

<guest20441> capt on the vidio on rodnreel how far out was yall?

<BUSTER> Hey Capn Mike Did you ever here a boat called the "R&R"?We .heard you last summer on the radio We fish for Tarpon Mainly .

<teaserboat> now your talking! Summer and fall S. W. Pass AUG, Sept, Oct on the west side every day the bulls pop to the surface 20-40 lb,s and are aggresive with flys look for the birds about 1/2 mile off rocks also up and down octave, Main, Romair, Loomis, and pass a loutre when the river is low, below 5 ft. in N.O. these shorelines are great!!

<Bear21> Ok Folks Slow Down a Little Please

<Bear21> I am falling behind I know Capt Mike is

<NOMAD> thanks capt.

<NOMAD> thanks capt.

<teaserboat> Circle Hooks should be used when you are fishing deep for snapperas tension sets the circle hook if you are fishing shallow then i prefer a long shanked 7/0 hook

<Lindavj> thanks capt

<Fishead> Thanks

<teaserboat> Circle hooks for deep fishing as tension sets the hook and 7/0 hook for shallow fishing

<paul> Am I you only one having problems reading the BLUE print?

<Lindavj> no

<HC> <HC> Capt Mike chumming circle or standard hook Going for a beer let you catch up

<the_keeper> no

<Barney> Capt Mike, we have a trip booked with you in mid April, What differant types of fish should we be able to catch

<Bear21> Ok folks lets try something A Little Diffrent.....

<Bear21> If you have a question type a Question Mark..?

<Lindavj> yes, but I have another one I need to fill.

<teaserboat> Circle hook for chumming, and i assume you mean for tuna is perfect but the most imp. technique is not to set the hook, have your ratchet on drift the line out feel the fish pick up your bait and then slowly put the drag on thats it!!

<Doody> Capt. Mike glad to have met you at the show. What is your feelings about fishing the inside waters this spring?

<Bear21> Then when CapT Mike is finished I will tell you to ask your question

<Bear21> I will Moderate the Chat

<teaserboat> R&R I think so out of Houma I believe?

<HC> <HC> thanks teaserman

<Barney> ?????????????????????

<Snoman_> lol

<Lindavj> snapper, email and give me your email address and I will give you more details

<teaserboat> My pleasure also Ithink this spring should be outstanding with BIG trou as long as the brown shrimp season is good the inside trou should be excellent

<Bear21> Capt Mike you caught up ready for another?

<Snoman_> ??

<carolina> clina

<teaserboat> Hit me

<Bear21> Barney Shoot

<BUSTER> ?

<Barney> Capt Mike, We have a trip booked with you in mid April, What different types of fish should we be able to catch...our main goal is tuna and wahoo

<HC> <HC> ???

<Barney> AJ's Cobia, what else

<teaserboat> Weather permitting should be a lock chumming should still be effective as well as trolling probably will doboth!!

<Bear21> Snoman

<Bear21> GO

<Barney> Thanks a Bunch

<teaserboat> Aj"s YES!! cobia maybe

<Snoman_> With the gill net ban, do you think the trout will be bigger in the summer/spring on the inside and not the little 12-14 inch schoolies?

<guest20441> ?????????????

<Barney> KEWL!!!!

<Snoman_> And more plentlyful?

<BUSTER> Hey Capn Mike Did you ever here a boat called the "R&R"?We .heard you last summer on the radio We fish for Tarpon Mainly .

<teaserboat> Without a dobt the trout will get bigger without the nets we are alredy seeing this

<teaserboat> yes more plentiful!!

<Snoman_> Cool... thanks for your opinion!

<Bear21> OK HC GO

<teaserboat> R&R I think you might be out of Houma? if not yes I have heard your boat

<Doody> snowman if you break kirk and bear's poles there will be more fish in the water

<Kirk-> Laughs Out Loud

<Bear21> Laughs Out Loud

<Bear21> yea right

<Snoman_> lol doody..

<HC> Capt Mike heard halfbeak awsome trout bait ??

<NOMAD> ?

<teaserboat> Great bait But I thoght that was a secret?? Ha. Ha!!

<Lindavj> Capt Mike what depth water do you mostly find the grouper

<Kirk-> ?????

<Bear21> Guest20441 your Turn

<guest20441> on the video on this page how far out are yall and what was the bait for mangroves?????

<teaserboat> Grouper are usually found deeper say in 250ft or deeper on the bottom or do not be surprised to find them also suspended like the snapper

<the_keeper> What's a "halfbeak"?

<Snoman_> a secret!

<Snoman_> lol

<Lindavj> thanks

<Fishead> ?

<BUSTER> Yeah thats us capn i caught a 201 pound Tarpon last October at southwest Pass in 110 feet of water casting a chartreuse coon-pop.

<coolrod> coolrod??

<teaserboat> Mangroves are usually caught on whole cigar minnows, pogies or live croakers they are found at deep platforms as well as shallow platforms in the summer check as shallow as 30 ft platforms

<Bear21> Buster Your Turn

<teaserboat> A halfbeak is found at night around the Breton Island rigs or shallow water rigs and scooped up with a net they look like a needle fish only have 1/2 a beak on one side

<BERT> WHERE CAN YOU GET CIGAR MINNOWS,AND POGIES/?

<Snoman_> no kiddin'

<Snoman_> hmm..

<Bear21> Buster You Here?

<Doody> ya'll keep the chat room going; I need to get some shut eye -- my day starts early!!

<teaserboat> Cigars ask Monica pogies usaully at a bait shop

<MrThorn> I think buster already asked his.

<Barney> see ya

<Bear21> Nomad Your Turn

<Snoman_> see ya doody...

<Snoman_> lol MIKE!

<Bear21> Thanks

<Lindavj> Capt Mike what months are the slowest months for tuna

<NOMAD> capt. what is cond. at chand. islands and what is fav. fly for reds out there

<chance> ???

<BUSTER> Hey captain Mike do you ever fish for Tarpon?

<teaserboat> tuna really do not have a slow month only move further out when it is hot therfore sometimes makes it difficult to chase

<guest20441> capt thanx foryour time

<Lindavj> thanks

<Lindavj> Capt Mike is that the same for wahoo also

<teaserboat> Chand. great for reds right now as a matter of fact had a friend fish with flys Sat. at Breton and did great!!

<NOMAD> what fly?

<whale> ????

<teaserboat> No Whaoo are much more active in the cooler months as far as large fish in the summer expect smaller although occasionally a large one will be caught

<teaserboat> shrimp colored clouser

<Bear21> Fishead your turn

<coolrod> coolrod will pass and listen

<NOMAD> thanks

<Lindavj> thanks

<Fishead> do you keep a rod rigged for the curious cobia and what do you throw at him

<Lindavj> Capt Mike have you ever been to Green Canyon

<Snoman_> no problem mike! your doing great!

<Snoman_> interesting..

<Barney> thanks for coming

<Lindavj> hey kirk

<teaserboat> YES usually a 2 oz. jig or a live catfish 2 oz. jig so that it does not sink quick but a live catfish will be the best . Free spooled with no weight

<Fishead> thanks capn

<Barney> is that a hardhead cat?

<Bear21> OK Kirk your turn

<Bear21> Chance you Turn

<Lindavj> okay snapper thanks

<Guest39347> hello?

<chance> Capt. Mike, there is going to be an SKA tournment out of Venice this summer I believe. Have you ever fished one, and are you available for that type of charter?

<Lindavj> ?

<BUSTER> HEY captain Mike Feel free to say hi to us on the radio we would be more than happy to talk to you.

<Guest39347> Hey bear. Every time I try to change my nickname, aol freezes up. I have been trying to get here for 20 miniutes

<teaserboat> Yes I started fishing the circuit last year and let me tell you guys it's GREAT a lot of fun and great competition as far as charters its hard to do for the tour. as you need to fish ateam at least two tourn. to qualify for nationals

<chance> thanks, I'll furnish the team

<Bear21> Whale your turn

<whale> what kind of reels do you use to snapper fish on what rods? are Penn 320's good for snapper

<BUSTER> SORRY

<paul> ?????????????????????

<teaserboat> Tey are fine , Shimano 700, TLD 15 or 20, or good ole fasion penn 4/0 are great but do not have a fast retrieve if you are jigging but the drags are great and is a tough reel and not expensive

<lee> lee ?????

<Bear21> Snoman your Question

<Snoman_> Are you going to mention this on CH8 thursday? Give us a little free TV ad.. lol

<teaserboat> Just as an added I use a 7 foot rod for snapper with a soft tip

<teaserboat> Mention the chat room SURE!!

<Snoman_> lol

<Snoman_> and thanks!

<whale> thanks mike

<Bear21> OK LindaV your question

<NOMAD> ?

<Lindavj> have you ever fished Green Canyon and if so, what can I expect in comparison to Miss Canyon

<BUSTER> ?

<teaserboat> Yes Green canyon is a great place to fish but the only problem is that at times the water can be dirty and if so it is a long trip for nota but the best safety measure would be to check with Roffers service and see how the water looks. Makes for a great tripout there but be sure and check the weather

<Bear21> Ok paul your Question

<Lindavj> thanks much I will do just that

<Bear21> Paul still with us?

<Bear21> OK Lee your question

<Steve> Hey everybody

<Bear21> Hey steve

<Snoman_> Hi Steve

<Bear21> Lee are you here?

<Steve> Mike still here

<teaserboat> Yes!!

<Snoman_> hey larry...

<Snoman_> yeah

<Steve> ?

<Bear21> Nomad your question

<NOMAD> Mike what tips can you give us for big specks at the rigs in breton sound & black bay

<lee> hi mike, when you fish the lumps do you fish a particular section depending on the tide or just look for signs, bait, birds etc.

<Barney> ?

<Lindavj> bear I leaving the chat room but I have a ? for you. I will email you

<Bear21> Ok Linda

<Bear21> Thanks

<NOMAD> later linda

<Fishead> gotta go thanks again Captn Mike

<Kirk-> nite fishead

<teaserboat> First the specks .Well The rigs behind Goisier Blk21 ect.are probably the most productive Live or artificial will work Live bait on about a 2 ft. 20 lb leader with a 1/2 oz. weight on the bottom will work using a Kahle hook for your croaker or shrimp . Now artificial i use Queen size Cocahoes wit a 3/4 oz jig head working this very slow on the bottom VERY SLOW!! a soft tap is all you will feel. Spider wire isimportant to feel the bite as well

<teaserboat> Now for the lumps are you asking about the mud lumps or the Midnight Lumps??

<Guest39347> ?

<Steve> What happened bear/

<Steve> ?

<Bear21> Lee

<Guest39347> Hey mike, what is the best time of year to catch lemonfish in the cocodrie area and how far would I have to run out of whiskey pass

<Bear21> what Lumps you refering to?

<lee> midnight lumps aka sackett bank

<Steve> ?????

<teaserboat> Cocodrie is starting already but they are still a ways out. Now satrting in June I have caught them right outside the Islands as a matter of fact the bouys going and coming from the Houma navigational chanell are great

<Bear21> Capt mike Lee was refering to Midnight lumps

<Guest39347> thanks

<Bear21> We will take a 5 minute break after he answers lee's question

<Bear21> then we will resume

<teaserboat> The lump is a great place to fish and for the past 17 years the winter has been great for chumming . Now the summer is great for Marlin if blue water is there but not great for chumming

<Bear21> Capt Mike you want to take a 5 minute Break?

<lee> bear i'm really slow tonight and getting messages in 20 and 25 line bunches, any help thanks

<teaserboat> Since I have fished iT for the past 20 years it has been a great spot to fish but definately more a winter spot than summer

<teaserboat> Naw lets do it !!

<Bear21> lee after this is over we will set you up on mirc

<Bear21> Ok NO BREAK

<Minlh> ?

<Bear21> the net threw you off capt

<Bear21> coolrod your question

<Barney> Capt, I will e-mail you for that recipe

<coolrod> Coolrod -- Mike what is the ultimate open face reel and rod combination you recommend for specs. What action rod do you perfer and what length rod is best.

<teaserboat> I guess the nets mad??

<teaserboat> Great!!

<Bear21> Laughs Out Loud

<MrThorn> The net is mad because it is banned in Louisiana.

<Minlh> ?Minoh

<teaserboat> I prefer a light- medium action 7 1/2 ft rod with a shimano spining reel I feel they have the best reels

<Kirk-> see bear!

<Bear21> ok Lee your question

<NOMAD> lol

<NOMAD> cost less too

<Bear21> grrrrr

<lee> hey mike my question on the midnight lumps was in reference to chumming. when chumming do you just anchor andstart a chum line or look for specific signs or location? thanks for the seasonal tip, i'm getting ready for next yr.

<Guest39347> ?

<teaserboat> Whats a matter bear did I strike a nerve??

<Bear21> Laughs Out Loud

<Guest39347> worht the money?

<Bear21> Laughs Out Loud

<Bear21> nope

<NOMAD> what is?

<Bear21> My calcutta is as good

<Kirk-> sure sure

<Kirk-> and you made me but a $250 wall decoration

<Bear21> Just takes a real man to fish with it

<Bear21> heh

<MrThorn> Woo Daves once won a Bassmaster tournament with a zebco 33.

<Barney> Capt Mike thanks for the information....look forward to seeing you in 24 days, enjoyed it all

<teaserboat> Dont give up you still have about 2 months left and the most important is to get on the lump and chum from the time you get there till the time you quit, do not stop,. Signs are not that important when you are chumming as the baitfish move around and with the chum you are drawing the fish to you. The less the current the better as hard current days take the chum away from your boat to quick. A nice steady current is best!

<Bear21> ok Minlh your question

<teaserboat> Thanks Barney i appreciate all you guy's

<Minlh> Mike are there any new floaters that are producing fish. Where are they located, approx. Also is pink still hot

<Snoman-> gezz..

<Bear21> We have a couple more questions

<Snoman-> oh..thought he was leaving..
