      Delacroil Report!

Fishing close to New Oileans in the Big Greazy!!!

After trying to change my crews mind from hitting the water they made their mind up either they were going with or without me so Fred and his crew, Sean, David, and John jumped on board for an evening trip in 20+ kt winds as we headed out in search of some fish.
The siphon was running at nearly 8000 cfs and the winds from the west over twenty and the tide low to start with the odds were not in our favor.
Still we had a good time with David setting the hook on the first and only trout of the evening followed by a couple of drum and a ton of catfish every where we went.
The bite was as predicted but that didn’t keep the guys from having a good time discussing
job related issues relaxing and putting down a few beverages.
After cleaning out the trash bin I had enough empty aluminum cans to recycle into a good size flat boat!
As the guys wobbled back to the camp I figured they would show a little late for the next mornings trip.

Yesterday we met early at the dock and the guys were actually fired up and ready to go with the winds still stiff out the N/E we headed to an area where I thought they would have a chance at a few reds and maybe a trout or two and it didn’t take long before Fred was hooked up with a monster red that he fought for some time before putting her in the net that weighed out at 27 pounds.
After a couple of pictures the red released Fred unharmed to recover with a bottle of water and a short rest
Fred said it was his biggest to date which made me fell a little better .
John was hooked up with another monster that drug him around for a while then spit the hook!
As Sean kept the lanes clear by catching all the catfish and long tail flounder in the area John hooked up again but this time he landed a 17 pound black drum.
Once the winds settled to less than gale force we jumped over to a trout spot and Dave had the hot hand with about a dozen trout from 18 to 21" hitting the box but it was late and the bite was at it’s end.
Managed a few nice drum in the 5# range that grill up just fine and Sean had to be back in NEW OILEANS so we headed back to the dock to clean up.
The trout were hitting the Motoroil colored plastics and the reds and drum were happy with a piece of dead shrimp.

Had a great time with the guys and they are ready for a rematch later this season.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!!

                                Delacroix report!

The forecast for the upcoming week of high S/E winds will give us a boost.
It will push plenty of shrimp to the marsh and have those trout starting their feeding frenzy that we have all been waiting so patiently for.
The bad new is the winds wont allow us to get to them big girlz on the outside waters for a while longer.
The trout bite in the marsh had just started to get good using mullet baits like Mirrolure catch 5's and the 2000's as well as live minnows.
The siphon is kicked up to almost 8000 cfs and with the winds from the west at a steady 15 to 20 has made a mess of the area west of the twin pipeline.
Starting Thursday the winds will switch to the S/E at 20 and persist and hopefully push back some of that water as it rises the tidal levels and possibly cleaning the area back up a little.
For those that wish to venture out when the water is high the reds should be loaded in the ponds and the trout will be hanging along the shorelines near ambush points chasseing mullet and shrimp as well as those pesky croakers.
Also the deep channels like Oak River, False River and deeper passes between bays will channel plenty of shrimp thru them like an interstate which makes great congregation spots for the fish to feed.
Look for trout to show up in four horse, Campo, Bay Lafourche, and Oak River Bay.
Basically the same pattern you would fish when a  tropical depression passes to the south os us.
Hopefully the crews working on the oil spill will contain it from the marshes but with the conditions facing them it will be a tough task and they will without a doubt have their hands full.

Our deepest sympathies and prayers are with the families that lost loved ones on the platform.

                                              Smallcraft Pilgrim does it again!!

When Don Pilgrim books a trip you can bet the weather will be at disaster levels, Smallcraft advisories, Tornados, earth quakes, volcanic eruptions ...you get the picture.
Well today was no different with the winds at 20+ at the dock this morning and not going was not an option for this gang.
Well Don, Dr. George, Levan and Ricky were eager to hit the waves especially Ricky wanting to try out his new rig a mean looking Zebco 808 on an ugly stick.
We headed to where I had been catching some trout lately and the wave action said FAGETABOUTIT!!!
George managed the first and only trout of the spot and the way things were looking I figured I would make it  A raidfeesh day and get those lines stretched.
Jumped in a pond and before we were settled good Don was hooked up then George then Levan with reds going crazy all around us.
This was Levans first trip and after a few casting lessons he was swinging them with the rest of the guys.
Then we heard this NOISE unlike I had never heard before sort of a screeching, painful, agenizing sound similar to a cat with his privates caught in an electrical socket if you know what I mean and as we all looked to the back of the boat it was Ricky’s reel being delivered pain by a redfish that had no intention on being brought to the boat by that 808!
Well Ricky wore the fish down and after it hit the net I knew the guys were in for it for the rest of the day !!!
The action continued for a while but as the tide came to a stop so did the bite.
With a bunch in the box we made a run to check some other spots but it was one here and there kind of a bite with reds and Black drum doing the bidding.
Headed back in the same area where we started and on Don’s first cast it was on again with drags peeling and rods folded all around me.
George went to take a picture of Don and almost lost his rod in the process with a red as well as Ricky almost loosing his cell phone after a red slammed his bait while taking a call.
We were having a blast and not just from the wind .
Ricky’s 808 is now legend in Delacroix with people all over the island asking if anyone heard a weird noise coming from the marsh today???
Made it back with a dry but and after 5 minutes on the dock the heavens opened and it poured.
All in all although it was a little windy we had no gnats, didn’t get sunburn, beat the rain and caught a box full of fish and laughed our buts off all day.

Check out the photos on my website at www.castawaycharters.com as well as constant updates on the fishing as it continues to get better and better.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!

                                       What a blast !

Today I figured I search out some reds for tomorrow’s guest since the predicted winds will be in the twenty’s and far too strong for the area where I have I have been hitting the big trout so I made my way to the Pt fienne area and the gnats were so bad I couldn’t handle it so I headed to an outer bay and tried a spot I haven’t fished in quite some time after noticing a school of mullet cruising the shoreline and with the third cast of the mirrolure it was fish on with yellow mouth trout slamming the bait with a vengeance.
Quite a few that were well over 22" just ripped themselves loose while struggling to stay out the boat.
Looked around to see no body near me and let out a yell so loud you could have heard me on canal st.
Sounded like one of those WOO commercials on TV as I was laughing my tail off just happy to be slamming nice trout again.
The bite slowed after a wile so I lifted the Power Pole and drifted down the shoreline and picked up another bite with smaller trout from 13" to 18" so I switched over to the plastic using the Hybrid Lemon Drop minnow and started whacking them some more.
Called my brother on the phone cause he wanted some trout for his house and he said to keep him about a dozen so we put a quick fifteen in the well and continued to release the rest.

As the winds picked up I knew I had to go find some of dem Raids for tomorrow and ran towards four horse and found a few on the south shoreline on different points but nothing stacked up.
Looks like the winds will wail tomorrow so we will leave it up to my guests if they want to give it a shot with the conditions predicted to be not so favorable and the winds above twenty.

The reports from the outer bays are dirty water just abut every where with the river coming thru Austrica.

Looks like we will get plenty more river this year with the heavy snows and sever flooding they have been getting up north heading our way after the melt.
The LSU catch 2000 and catch 5 were sticking them pretty good today.
Tide was low early this morning but the trout were still in less than two feet of water against the bank chasseing the mullet.

Till next time.....Take a trip and rip some lips!

                                 Mirrolure day 1

Today capt Gerry jumped on board with me to go see if we could sniff out a few mirrorlure trout.
Headed towards the out side but the winds were getting stiffer by the second and the closer we got the worse it looked.
Headed towards Pt A lahache and shut down in a bay I normally find decent trout this time of year and nothing was happening but the gnats so we made another move and settled in a a decent bite with trout from 18" to 22" slamming the mirrolures trying to take the pole out our hands.
Den dem raid feesh crashed the party dragging us a round for a while with a few monsters but mostly all nice 25" slots.
Wanted to keep two reds for the house and one of them swallowed the mirrorlure so he was nominated one of the two.
Needed a dozen trout for the house and although I like to keep the smaller ones there just wasn’t any under 20" so what the hell I’ll just cut them in strips.

The winds picked up and dirtied up the water and the bite shut down so we made a move and settled in a pocket near Bay Lafourche and before I knew it Gerry was getting pulled around by another gold brute that had other ideas than coming to the boat for a while.
The winds got pretty stiff for a while so we checked a few spots on the way in catching a couple smaller trout  here and there but the bite was already shut down .
The water in the marsh is clean right now with the east winds pushing cleaner water in.
Tide was falling in the morning but it quit early and started rolling in.
Water temp was 71 which is right there on the trigger.
After another week of this warmth with the falling tide in the morning look for these trout to bust loose.
Found the trout tailing schools of mullet over a shell bottom in less than three feet of water.
The catch 2000 in the mullet colors were doing well.

Took a photo of a few on the table and if you look you will see they are loading up with eggs already so it won’t be long now.

                                     Just a thought!

Just sitting back and reading some reports and thought I would way in on my opinion of the freeze and fish kill.
Looking back at last year we definitely had a milder winter than this year with less frequent frontal systems pushing through on a constant basis.
But we also had a lower River to deal with and the SIPHON WAS OFF or running at a lower level for the majority of the winter as well.
Prior to the freeze this year the river came up quick and the siphon was rolling it through the marsh at a high rate dumping all that cold water and pollution from the river which does a couple of things in most cases.
One of them is to push the fish further back towards the east into cleaner water with higher salinity levels which also will have warmer temperatures away from the colder fresh river water that rolls down from up north as well as making the fish drop deeper in the areas where they are to get under the fresh water and become lethargic thus less feeding activity.
If trout liked fresh water Tennessee would be the place to be!!!!
If I remember correctly those that were braving the conditions after the freeze on days when the winds blew from the east, what very few there were, and pushed back the dirty water were catching better than others that fished on the north west winds that were pulling the water to the east from the siphon...makes me wonder about why they closed all the oyster beds as well due to pollution...hmmm!
Imagine living in the center of the woods and the forest is on fire and the winds are blowing in your direction....which direction would you go?
Now think of after the fire is out and you have been pushed out of your area do you migrate back in to it or migrate from where you are to where you should be at this time of year?.
Basically I believe the higher river levels in the marsh may have saved the fish by pushing them not only farther back but deeper as well prior to the freeze.
Not only did we deal with the dirty water from siphon but the consistent pounding of the fronts that rolled and dirtied the bottoms as well as dropping the tides to an all time low for long periods of time.
You can bet there was a lot less bait in the marsh this year than less as well which would have made a lot of fish inhabit other areas in search of food.
My guess is the spring migration will just start farther from the east this year cause we are going to have a hell of a lot more river water to deal with due to all the all the floods and heavy snow storms up north that will be coming our way and the good ole destruction tubes from Caernavaron will be pumping it right down our throats again.
For those of you that can pick your days try to fish prior to the fronts by at least a day or two and after the winds have blown from any other direction than that has west involved.
You can bet on one thing....Mother nature always does things for a reason and although it messes with our enjoyment some times it will always come back around in time.
Makes you think if we don’t do something to protect our marshland from all the pollution and erosion  now this could be what the normal is for the next generation......

LET US PRAY!!!

A tough day at the Island

After having to reschedule my guests Roger and Ben a couple of times from months back due to flash flood warnings and tropical depressions and such the guys were ready to take a shot at it yesterday which I did everything but put a gun to their heads asking them not to waste the day under the conditions we have at the island right now.
But they would not take no for an answer and were ready to give it a shot anyway.
Well we met up at the dock with the winds from the N/W at 40 degrees and blowing hard and every body looked like terrorists with face mask and body armor protecting us from the cold.
If nothing else I figured the reds would be happy to see us but once at the spot where I have been hammering them lately we were met with white caps and filthy water .
Roger  Achmed Redkeeler managed one nice 27" hostage but that was all that was coming out till the winds blew us away.
Figured what the hell and headed our camel towards the promise land in search of some trout and with every stop found low dirty water from the siphon.
Roger Achmed Redkeeler managed another 26"hostage and Ben Abdul Meestum started looking to see if he was shooting blanks being down two to zip.
Made a trek across the baron desert looking for cleaner sand in the twin and all points were taken.
After hitting all the likely winter holes for the trout with no luck we headed back to the hunt for the reds and Roger Achmed Redkeeler mad a cast that landed three feet from the boat and after saying he has a tangle in his line it took off with another 27" slab for the grill.
By this time Ben was checking his scope to see if he was off target and then Roger set the hook on another one that managed to escape with Redkeeler’s bullet still in him.
Switching guns Roger quickly put the nail in the coffin with one more for his harem after they exhausted all the blue cans in the cooler they surrendered under the conditions they could get some more beer and warm up!
Although the conditions were not in our favor we had a great time and they were able to put four nice reds for the grill and learn a lot of the area and will return to do it again in the spring.
It’s tough enough to fish on a full moon but fishing the month of the blue moon can bee even tougher especially in the winter behind a front.
Looks like those hitting the evening trips with the moon rising are finding better luck than the morning bite.
The high river and strong west winds are bringing the river water from the siphon to the east so the best bets would be Lake John and east of the twin, The Lake Robin and Lake Amadee and areas that are less affected by the siphon.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!

                                       The Honey Hole!!!! 122209
Today I had Don , Chris and Melanie on board to spend the day rippin some lips.
Chris showed up as usual with his portable Bar Room to brew his Bayou Concoctions, Don had the Budwiser man meet us at the dock and fill his end of the boat with his favorite and Melanie showed up ready to kick some but!!!

Morning started off slow with dirty water every where and absolutely no tide.
Melanie hooked up first with a trout and shut the macho talk down a little but it seemed the trout were not going to be a big hit.
Don set the hook on what we all thought was a nice Red Fish till it got close enough to the boat and realized it was a big trout and before I could get to the net Donwiser tried lifting the mule up over the gunnel and we all watched the LIP RIP before it was in the boat as it just kinda winked at us and slowly swam away.
It was par for the corse with Don missing the majority of the strikes all morning...as usual!!!
Of corse I got the blame for that one but if I would not have been getting him another blue can I would have been able to get to the net..
Well as the day went that fish grew and I’m sure by now it wouldn’t have even fit in the net so it don’t matter anyway!!!
Well we all decided since I have been on a killer redfish bite lets head to the honey hole and have some fun.
Melanie didn’t like the sound of that but she was game and a trooper and said lets do it.
Pulled in to a shoreline and drifted for all of thirty seconds and before I could get set up Don then Chris then Melanie was hooked up with beautiful 25 to 28" reds.
All the reds were like they were out of the perfect slot mold with the majority being the perfect grilling 26" size.
The boat was all smiles with Chris putting a nice 25" in the net and Melanie with the duplicate and Don....well his got off!!
This continued till we had a four man limit in the box which was a problem trying to put one in cause two would jump out in the process.
It seemed every time I looked up Melanie was hooked up with the rod folded over with the cell phone in her ear and a big smile on her face.
Chris was looking like Morgus the Magnificent brewing up another concoction and Don was setting the hook using his new secret lure the green squiggley thingamagig.....!
Before all was said and done we kept 20 Reds ,released as many and MISSED as many and I for one had a BLAST !
The jokes were flying and Melanie was right in the mix slinging them out as well.
It was Melanie’s first time on board and she is making plans to return with some of her family to do it again.
As always with Don and Chris It’ not like being with clients but fishing with friends. Looks like Melanie has been adopted to the Castaway Family.br>When the tide returns the trout bite will be awesome wit hthe trout dropping bown in the deep holes and feeding up like usual.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!!!

Today I had Chris Rite and his Fada-n-law Mr Don Graham on board to rip some lips.
Mr Don hasn't been fishing in the past 20 years so a little rust was showing this morning wit hthe finicky trout bite in the cold water.
Made a few stops for the trout but only managed little responce with a few drive by hits and a few throw backs and one nice keeper so Chris and I decided since Mr Don had never caught a red fish what a better day than today to break him in.
Headed for Foe Hose  Lake and stuck the power pole and that was that .
After they put all three limits in the boat and released as many and missed as many we were on our way in with a chest full of fish.
Mr Don was all smiles as the reds nearly pulled the pole from his hands a few times  but he quickly dusted off the rust and was putting them in the net with ease.
Chris could do no wrong , it just seemed wherever he landed the cork it would go down with another 23 to 26" red.
Had a ball and looks like mr Don is red-D to do this red fishing thing again soon.

                        What a blast today!!!

Met Les Ager and his son Forrest from Ga. at the dock for seven this morning and they were ready for some red fish action.
Not wanting any trout and only keeping enough for the table they were ready for some catch and release and to learn a few spots for the G P S .
Only problem was we only made one stop near Oak River and the Pencil  and the guys were folding the rods over with red after red all from 18" to 28" as fast as they could get the lines in the water.
Yesterday the wind was pushing the bait against the shoreline and today the winds were dead calm and it started out a little slower and only catching and releasing about thirty reds before the first bite slowed down.
At first the fish were real sluggish and after they would hit the lure they would just sit there till you set the hook and woke them up.
After the water warmed up a few degrees and the slightest of a breeze showed up the bite got more aggressive and there was no need for setting the hook cause they would do it for you on the initial strike which started round two.
Forrest being thirteen years old was hammering the reds like a seasoned pro.
Les was having his hands full keeping up with him at one point.
After the second wave kicked in it was getting nuts for a while with reds coming at me from every direction.
I don’t think there were too many times when one or the other wasn’t hooked up all morning.
After it was time to head in and meet Momma at the dock I told the guys they could catch one more each and we would call it quits and Forrest struck first , then second and actually caught another limit and before I knew it they released another dozen before I could get packed up.
I had a ball with the guys and look forward to the next trip.
The majority of the reds were out a mold and all were right at 26" but if you moved thirty yards away the fish shrunk to 18 to 21".
All the fish were caught using a chartreuse Flurry on a 3/8 Body Smasher Jig head 2' under a cork in three feet of water.
Don’t know exactly how many they caught and released but I would feel safe in guessing well over fifty or better.
Thanks Les for letting me enjoy the trip with ya’ll.
Im guessing Forrest will have a lot to tell his friends back in Georgia when he gets home.

Quick report from da Island....in da Parish!!!

                                          SA-LAMED DEM RAIDS TUDAIE !!!!

Left the house a little after seven this morning with Capt Gerry to go check a few red fish spots for tomorrow’s guests since they are no more interested in Trout than Tiger woods is interested in boxing lessons for his wife!!!
Headed down  the Pipeline towards Oak River and checked the area near Batola and found dirty water where I normally do well this time of year and headed off to the other side of the lake and noticed some Pelicans working the shoreline and drifted the shoreline till the first drag started singing with a nice slot red on the other end.
Stuck the power pole and began putting reds in the boat on every cast from 20" to 27".
It got plain nuts using a Hybrid Flurry two feet under a cork on a 3/8 Body Basher jig head  and barely working it and mostly letting the wave action do the job.
After mauling them for a little while we eased up the anchor and drifted to a cove where the wind was pushing the bait against the shore and started it all over again.
We were having a blast with rods folded on every cast faster than most people catch trout but with a lot stronger battle on the other end.
At one point the reds tore my Flurry off the jig head so I figured what the heck and cast back out with a bare hook and Yep... another seven pounder in about ten seconds.
All we could was laugh and do it again with back to back bronze bruisers coming in and only using a bare Body Basher Jig Head for bait!!!!
After catching and releasing about FAWTY OR SO we gave them a break and moved to another
spot to check it out on the way in.
All the reds were released unharmed to fight another day and Capt Gerry was starting to complain about a sore arm so we left them alone and headed in.
Noticed some boats catching a few trout drifting in the middle of the lake near the pencil so it looks like things are as usual in Delacroix .....HOT !!!!

                                      The Pilgrims dock shot!

Had a great time with the Pilgrims yesterday and forgot to put the picture of them with their fish.
What a great day with limits of reds and trout jumping in the boat.
Dave is use to Fishing Texas trout and started throwing 13" trout back at first thinking they weren’t legal since their legal size is 14".
It sure makes my job easier when the group are as good as fisherman as they were.
I had a blast with the guys and look forward to the next one.

The fishing is absolutely outstanding in Delacroix right now and as the colder weather settles in it will only get better with the larger trout staging on the drop offs and ledges near the deeper water leading in or out of the shallow bays.
As the water temps warm a few degrees they will move up to the nearest flats making them predictable targets and easy to catch.
As the shrimp leave they will start to feed on mullet and minnows so the Mirrolure and the artificial minnows like the HYBRIDS will be a great choice of baits.
For the bigger trout look for them using the catch 5's and 5200 series mullet imitations.
If you find a school of mullet don’t be afraid to throw something big in the middle of them and work it like it was injured or trying to escape......you never know what will happen!!!

I have some days open in December which is always a fantastic month for trout and reds
so give us a call and come pass a good time!

                                     The Pilgrims Landed in Delacroix.

Today I had Don and his brother Mark Pilgrim on board with Dave from Texas to rip some lips.
No Kidding....Pilgrims on Thanksgiving....Really I’M serious....real Pilgrims go figure!
Well we headed the Mayflower towards the new world and after setting down to one of the prettiest sunrises I have seen in a while first thing we noticed was there was no tide so we made a short move to where the water would funnel a little faster and the guys got on a quick bite with trout hitting the deck at a fast pace.
Keeping only 12 ½ and up we went to 30 in the gloo pretty quick then it shut off.
Made a very short move and it was on again and before long the guys had their limit with Mark holding big trout honors with a nice 20" trout.
We hit number 85 before 9am and the guys said they would like to try for some reds so it was thru the woods to grandmas house and stopped in a pond near Oak River and Don hooked up first but in less than half the distance to the boat the red came unbuttoned.
Not to worry Dave hooked up next and the red took him for a tour of the back of the Mayflower hooking him in the MOTOR,TRIM TABS, POWER POLE, and any thing else it could find attached to the boat before breaking loose.
Them Louisiana reds just have a lot more power than them Texas reds I guess!!!
Mark struck with a nice 27" and actually landed one showing the guys how it was done.
Not to worry in a few minutes they were all hooking up at the same time with nice slots from 20 to 26" and before long we had our limit of reds and could not fit them in the box with two jumping out before you could put another one in!!!
All trout and reds were caught on Hybryds Flurrys LSU colors and the Pink Champagne Dudley.
We had a ball catching as well as losing a gang of reds so with 16 reds and 85 trout the guys said enough and we headed in to clean up.
It was great fishing with Dave the first time and he is already looking for his next trip.
As far as the Pilgrims go they were made an offering to them by the local indians of some bud lite at the quick stop and they were as happy as hell as they sailed off to the west..!!!

Even with no tide the fishing could not have been easier today and this cool snap will only make it better.
The trout and reds have been on fire since Ida and it looks like it will continue for the rest of the winter.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!

                                                  Lonie and Barry

Yesterday I had  Lonie and Barry on board to rip some more lips.
They just made a trip last week and limited out on nice specks and wanted to do it again.
Today Lonie wanted to catch a bull trout after getting his limit so we set sail and settled in the first spot and there was no tide to get things started so we made a short move and got on a quick bite with Lonie and Barry both swinging trout over the gunnel at a steady pace.
Although there were some nice ones in the mix the fish were smaller than the day before with a bunch of 12" fish in the mix that we were throwing back.
After the bite slowed the clicker was on 25 in the gloo so we made another jump and started putting a few at each spot till they both had their limit.
Went looking for the bigger trout so Lonie could get his Bull Trout and fished a drop off and after putting a few decent trout in the boat Lonie set the hook on one that had him folded over and pulling for all it was worth till Lonie got it to the surface and before it could reach the net it was all over but the crying.
Lonie says it was the Bull Trout he was looking for, Barry said it was a drum and I think it was a stingray but the fish will get a lot bigger before he gets home I’m sure.
The guys caught a bunch of drum and a few reds but the bigger trout were elusive due to the lack of tide movement but still managed to keep all trout from 13" to 17" tossing a gang of 12" trout back to grow up to be bull trout!
Called it a day and headed in with their limit of trout and  had a great time as always.

Till next time ....Take a trip and rip some lips!

Day 2 with the Lavulet const. Crew.

Today we figured we would do things backwards and head straight for the bigger trout and when that bite finished finish the morning out with the regular size trout.
Well that was a mistake !
Arriving at the drop off first thing in the morning there was no water movement to activate the bite and the tide would be an hour behind yesterdays so we headed out and hit a couple of other spots first and pulled in to a bayou that was dumping shrimp into a bay near Oak River and the SLAM was on!
The guys have a bet each day of first trout and today they set another of first trout over 18" to sweeten the pot.
Well Karl was the first to strike with the first trout in the box but the guys protested that he super glued there poles in the rod holders which is under revue by the judges as of now but it didn’t stop them from slinging fish in three at a time once they got started.
The trout were all 13 to 17" and Robert almost hit paydirt with a 17 ½” but the big one was still yet to be put in the gloo.
The winds kicked up and made casting a little difficult to reach the spot till the bite eventually died.
Headed back to the drop off for some bigger fish and someone else was already enjoying it so we just passed on by and hit the backup spot another drop off near ten feet of water and things started off a little slow with some smaller fish but Amos was all quiet in the back of the boat steady on the hookset using his new SMORGASBOAR BAIT !!
He will be putting it on the market soon so he swore us to secrecy for now.
Karl cast out and set the hook not once but twice and started laughing and saying something about CHA CHING as he was reeling in and sure enough using a double rig he had an 18 ½ “ trout on one hook and a 16 ½ “ trout on the other.
All the guys could think of was how long that ride would be back to Lafayette!!!!
The Lavulet was as hot as LAVA from there on!
Well not to be discouraged Amos and Robert quickly got busy putting trout in the gloo with a
bunch of 17's till we reached our limit of 100 along with Robert’s nice 27" red he kept for the grill.
With their legal limit they were ready to head in for the ride back to Lafayette and even joined in with the clean up at the dock......what a great group to have!!!
Karl said he wanted to bring his buddy John Blevins down on the next trip to show him what Delacroix has to offer but he’s afraid it might spoil him.
As always the  crew is a ball to fish with and although they like there summer trips I think there first fall trip has ruined them all.

The fishing in Delacroix is second to none and it continues to get better.
Just a few minutes from the dock and you’re on the fish!
Come on down and see why people flock to Delacroix from surrounding areas and enjoy some of the best fishing on the coast!
Just minutes from Down Town New Orleans you’re just a CAST AWAY from an adventure to remember!

Till next time ....Take a trip and rip some lips!

                                                           The bashing continues!

Today was day one for the Lavulet construction crew from Lafayette.
Karl , Amos and Robert from Lafayette got on board this morning and the decision was made to hit the numbers first and then look for the bigger trout after they had enough meat in the box.
First couple of stops and we were sitting on 50 trout from 13 to 16"so the rest of the morning they wanted to hit the bigger trout.
Made the first stop near the twin pipeline and little lake John and worked a ledge and got on a slow but steady bite with most of the fish ranging from 15" to 20" bouncing double rigged plastics on the bottom in the purple and chartreuse.
That bite quit with some help of boat traffic so we made a short jump to another point near four horse lake and I cast out a rig to show them how to work the drop off and set the hook on two trout that were both over 18".
That had them jumping over each other to get their lines wet and Amos got the hot hand quick swinging slabs over the gunnel at a steady pace.
Karl and Robert were right behind as they paid close attention to his every move and before I knew it there were big trout flopping on the floor faster than I could get them in the box.
The clicker hit 100 and they played catch and release for a few minutes and asked for a red fish so we just trolled over to the closest point and Amos hooked up first again with a nice 26" slot then the guys put in three more right behind him and with the box chock full we headed to the barn to clean up.
You could not have asked for better weather with a light north breeze cool temps and a good tide range.
The trout are bashing the shrimp in all the major lakes and bays from Lake Robin to Four Horse
and this cool snap has put some bigger trout near the ledges

Till tomorrow .....Take a trip and rip some lips!

CASATWAY CHARTERS

Delacroix island , LA USA

Absolutely an awesome day in Delacroix today.

With the front forecast for tonight I knew the bite would be on ahead of it so I made a quick run close by and found the birds working the point I had planned to fish near the twin pipeline which made me smile knowing what would be under them.
Stuck the power pole in casting distance of the point and decided to throw the Mirrolure instead of the cork and plastic and it took all of three seconds and WHAM!!!!
I thought for sure it was a red but when she got next to the boat I was smiling some more with a trout all of 3 ½ pounds on the other end.
Took all the hooks out her face and released her back in the water and on the next cast it was the same scenario with another yellow mouth mule bashing the bait and almost jerking the pole out my hand in the process!!
Now I’m not smiling but laughing out loud !!
It was great with not another boat in sight and all these fish to my self.
Most of the trout were 17" to 19" with the largest being the first taker of the morning but plenty of 18" trout were eating any thing I threw at them.
The point I was fishing was a shell bottom point in three feet of water next to a drop off that was eight feet deep.
After catching and releasing at least thirty of those I mad a move to pond near 4 horse and got set up on another drop off casting double rigged plastics in to the deeper water and working it up the ledge and that’s where I would get the hit.
Holding the first fish on for a couple of seconds and waiting the second fish would hit the other bait and it was two at a time but all the trout there were not as big as the ones in the first spot but plenty of 17" trout which felt like mules when they were two at a time.
Could have sunk the boat they were so aggressive I guess due to the approaching front.
Had fun with those for a while and left them biting to try a bayou I haven’t hit this year but been wanting to and found fish there as well.
It just seemed to be one of those perfect days with trout biting all morning.
All the fish were in the normal hangouts for this time of year with the water temp in the mid 60's.
Looks like the cooler it gets the better it gets.
All the trout on plastics came on the purple and chartreuse and the Mirrolure fish were the 52mr series.

Friday the 13th was only unlucky for the trout !

Today I had Lonie, Randy, Alfred and Barry on board to get in on some of this fantastic action we have been having since Ida passed thru.
We headed straight to where I have been doing easy limits every morning and settled in with the power pole and waited for the fun to begin.
ONLY PROBLEM WAS IT NEVER GOT STARTED!
Friday the 13th was about to make a believer out of me till I made a short move and before the pole was secure Randy was hooked up with a 19" trout.
From then on it was nuts with trout coming over the gunnel three and four at a time on the artificals under a cork with the first bunch being trout from 17 to 19".
All I could do was have them drop the fish on the floor till  I could get to them to put them in the box.....TOTAL MAYHEM !
It looked like the limit would be done fast but the bite slowed down with 60 in the box .
Made another quick move and it didn’t take long before we were clicking 100 in the boat so I joined in and put another 15 in with them and with one nice red and 115 trout in the Gloo at 10am we headed in to bag up the catch.
On the way in I noticed a guy and his two sons with engine problems trying to make it in so I dropped my crew off at the dock and went back out to tow them in since my guys said they didn’t mind and it was a small flat that only took a short time to get in under plane.
Lonie and the guys have been coming down for a while and you could not ask for a better group of guys to fish with.
Had a great time and they are ready to come back before thanksgiving to do it again.

Ellis and Bruce on the loose!
Had my brother Bruce and good friend Ellis on board yesterday to rip some lips since they were both on vacation.
With the predicted winds of NW @25 we made a run to a protected shoreline and got on a fast bite with trout banging the baits as soon as they would hit the water.
If you weren’t paying attention they would try to rip the pole from your hands !
Ellis was amazed at how fast they were hitting the baits and was getting spoiled fast!
Using double rigs they were coming in two at a time and we quickly filled three limits before 9am.
They were hitting on the cork or bounced on the bottom ..it just didn’t matter.
Bruce put a nice 23" slot red on ice and it just seemed it couldn’t get easier.
Out of 75 trout there were no throw backs and quite a few near 17 to 20" which was nice to see.
After we had the limit I made a run and checked a couple of other spots only to find trout waiting at each one.

Looks like the winter season is in full swing and it will only get better as it gets colder.
Made it back to the dock and cleaned up and bagged the fillets and we were on the way with a couple of happy anglers!
Looks like Ellis will have a freezer full of fillets for a while...way to go Buffa!!!

We have been pounding the trout since Ida passed thru with limits every day since .
Now is the time to fill the boxes with those pretty winter trout.
All our fish for the past three days have been on plastics with plenty 17 to 19" fish showing up.
It don’t get much easier than it’s been since the storm.

                                                          Delacroix Report

Went to the Island this morning early and there was water running over the highway in a few low areas near the old dump and a couple of other spots but nothing deeper than a foot deep.
Most of the docks were still under water but the tide was dropping fast and furious.
Looks like all the land was spared of any flooding where all the campers were and for the most part all yards were dry and above water.
Made a few calls to let people know their stuff was ok and arrived at my dock that was still semi under water.
Did my clean up while it was still wet and got things back in order and by the time I left the dock was completely visible.
Looks like we were spared from any real damage other than some slight wind damage to a few sheds .
Bringing the boat back tomorrow and will try to make a quick scout before coming back.
Will let ya’ll  know what we find.
Never fails the fishing will be outstanding after a depression passes close by but for me that was a little too close.
November and December were looking to be fantastic before the storm and I can only imagine how much better it will be now.
Hope all faired well.

Day 1 with the Dixon gang from GEORGIA1

Started out this morning with Walker and his son Randy Dixon along with Mullet Lip Donny and first timer Jimmy and headed out to where I left them biting yesterday.
The trout were still there but the porpoise were destroying the spot when we got there.
Moved a little further down and got on a quick bite on the plastics putting 40 in the gloo and releasing as many 12"tighteyes.
Moved to the next stop and added another 20 and the bull reds crashed the party with Randy putting a 15# brut in the net and releasing her unharmed them Mr Walker was spooled by one he couldn’t turn then I broke one off before the boat then Jimmy landed a 16# brut and did the quick release then Mr Walker struck again and fought a monster to the boat that spit the hook at the last second....it was just getting nuts with bull reds so we made another jump and hit a drop off with the double plastics and they started rippin some more lips till 100 hit the deck.
Mr Walker was getting a kick out of this two at a time thing especially on the plastics.
Them trout were taking a beating like a bull dog from a tiger or maybe a falcon from a Saint ....well you get the picture!

                             Day 2 with the Bulldogs!

With the front passing thru yesterday we watched the radar and decided to wait till noon to leave the dock and the guys wanted reds instead of the trout since they had enough from the day before.
Most of the areas were still holding dirty water due to the 30kt winds associated with the passing front but they still managed to get on a few good bites keeping thirteen reds and releasing just as many that were either to big or to small!
They managed to catch literally every thing that swims in the water Red fish, Trout, Drum, Sheepshead , Largemouth Bass, Croaker, Stingray, and Catfish !!!

Alex had the big fish honors with his first red a 13# bull That he beat down but released unharmed to fight another day.

And so it was written that Alexander the Grape, traveled  from the far away land of the Bull Dogs
and slain the mighty Red with his Graphite sword and was crowned King Alexander, Master of the Marsh, Lord of the Mullet, Tyrant of Trout, Ruler of the Red !

Luckily for the rest of the Merry Men they didn’t have to listen to him all the way back to Nottingham Ga. Since he drove down in his own Charriot!

Two DAZE with the Jawja Gang !

Day one we had Alexander the Grape along with Fishmaster Gary , Buffalo Bill and a first timer  Red Daddy Chris on board to rip some lips.
With the winds making a mess out of the trout holes Billy and the gang wanted to fight some reds as well as bring some back to Georgia for the Bar B Chew during the Atlanta Massacre on Monday night so we headed to the ponds and started putting some healthy slots all near 24" in the box.
Chris and Gary had never caught a Red fish before and buddy when I tell you they are hooked worse than the fish I mean it.
It was as if he was landing the state records every time one hit the net with the whooping and the hollering and the high fives.
They were loving it especially when Chris landed his first Bull Red that took him for a tour of Delacroix before hitting the net.
Bill did his usual damage putting his share in the gloo and as usual gave the hot spots to the other guys so they could enjoy it to the fullest....what a guy !
Bill has been on board many of times and like me I think he enjoys watching the others catch them as much as catching them himself.
Alex had the hot hand for a while putting his limit in the box first but the guys were protesting it saying the shorts he was wearing were blinding them and disrupting their abillity to cast straight!!
After putting the reds away along with some Black Drum, door mat Flounders and a couple of huge Sheepshead ole Jimmy would have been proud of I thought I would try a spot on the way in near the twin pipeline for trout and it was the right choice.
Fishing deep with plastics as live bait they trout started coming over the gunnel three and four at a time with every body hooking up with trout from 15 to 20".
Billy stayed on the plastics keeping up with the live bait.
I pitched out a double rig a few times and it was two at a time as well.
With winds approaching 30kts the strike was some times undetectable on the plastics but the live bait was getting hammered with a vengeance.
In less than an hour you could not close the box and the guys were ready  for the dock.
During the action Gary said he was sore from them reds and took a break but they had to hog tie Billy to get the pole out his hands.
The box was so full of fish if you tried to put one in two or three would jump out so we sat on it and headed to the barn.
Billy even pitched in and passed the brush on the boat while I was cleaning the fish like I SAID WHAT A GUY!!!
After a few photos the guys went back to the camp to relax get out the wind for a while.
Even in small craft advisories the fishing in Delacroix remains outstanding.

                                              Totally Amazing Day !
Well I guess you can tell the fishing has been off the charts by all the great reports lately.
It’s that time of year again when things are just plain nuts.
Yesterday I scouted for my guests for this weekend and it was just crazy with fish.

Lately the trout have been stacked up in Four Horse and Lake Robin with easy limits coming on plastics and live bait.
The twin Pipeline area has been giving it’s share as well in all the cuts and drains that enter it.

Yesterday I scouted for reds first thing and found what I was looking for in most of the normal spots along Oak River so with that accomplished I decided to make a stop at one of the trout holes near the pencil and it was just nuts with trout.
Made a quick rig for double beetles and ti was two at a time with all keepers from 14 to 20" and a couple near three pounds in the mix.
Didn’t take long to get the 25 limit so just for the heck of it tried a couple of other spots near four horse and it was the same scenario all over with trout going nuts.

Looks like the LSU Bayou Chub was the choice of color and the Dudley Pink Champagne with a  close second !

The tides are pushing the shrimp in the ponds right now so when the winds go to the west be ready in front of your favorite drains and channels and make sure you have a big enough box.

The reds were happy to be spoon fed as well as the old GSB under a cork but the fish were tight to the shore due to the high water.
Kept three reds for the house for the Monday night massacre against the Falcons in the Dome of Destruction !!

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!!!

                              Fishing with G.I. JOE!!

Yesterday I had the honor and privilege to fish with Joe Wrongfowski.
Joe is a retired Marine that started his career in the Navy if you can figure that out.
Well what he wanted was to learn some of the transition areas for this time of year so I met him at the launch and we headed out bright and early in his 22" triton.
Not wanting to overload him I showed him the area’s that have been producing for me year after year at  this time as well as showing him how to set up on the spots and why I set up the way I do.
Basically the where, when ,why ,and how’s of each spot.
Our second stop was on fire with trout and we could have easily filled our limit with trout as they were hammering the plastics and Topwaters.
Not looking to just hit one or two spots we left them biting and made our way to an area near Oak river and got set up over an oyster bed near a deep drop off and the trout were there waiting again.
We were hitting hem directly next to the boat which was like fishing with a cane pole at times.
Left them biting and headed south of Oak river and found fish again drifting over an oyster reef.
Marking all the spots on his GPS we were able to catch a few fish at every stop.
Joe said he was bringing the kids on a red fish trip this weekend so I stopped at a point I like to fish for reds and it was just NUTS with reds.
They were hitting shrimp with a vengeance and busting bait on the surface so we started pitching the plastics and the fish seemed to like the corks more than the baits as the first couple of reds blasted the corks as all we could do was look at each other like...Ok, now what!
We switched over to crank baits and it was all it took with reds slamming the baits and trying to rip the pole out our hands.
If we would have brought some bait with us it would have been too much to handle.
After we left them we headed in and marked some spots on his map that we didn’t get a chance to cover but I think he will have quite a bit to absorb for a while.
Joe is a great guy to fish with and is serious about the sport.
If you happen to approach him wile he’s catching fish be careful, he keeps a 50 cal mounted on his bow and hates to be crowded.
Joe we thank you for your service to our country and look forward to the next trip.

Till next time ...Take a trip and thank a vet. !!!

Quick  limit    Under Tough conditions !

Today I knew I had my hands full with winds at 25, the siphon running at 6000 cfs and rain threatening in the distance.
With a somewhat late start due to navigation error Greg and his buddy Daryl met me at the dock ready for action.
Once we got under way we headed straight for the spot where I left them yesterday.
The wind was blowing straight down the area flooding it with river water and if that weren’t enough there was a shrimp boat dragging right thru the area.
Well we stuck the power pole and decided to give it a try for the hell of it and after a few minutes things started to happen.
Shrimp started to jump on the surface and there were hungry trout waiting to pick them off.
Daryl and Greg quickly started to hook up with trout after trout two at a time on live shrimp so I switched them over to artificials and the fish started coming in quicker than I could get to them.
Mostly small trout from 12 to 17" but with the conditions we were looking at I figured they were doing pretty good and I would take what I could get.
Daryl is from Texas and was amazed how fast he was hooking up as soon as the line would hit the water he was raring back with another one.
Greg was just as busy and as the fish would change pattern from top to bottom the guys would just change rods and keep going.
Once they had their limit it was red fish time but the winds were getting even stronger and I knew the point where I had been hitting them would be getting blasted by waves but we gave it a shot any way.
Daryl hooked up first then Greg with nice slot reds that were peeling drag but the action would slow quickly.
I quickly earned the name  Capt Corvette as I tried putting a shrimp on the bottom and caught two back to back stingrays!
Made a couple of moves and only managed a couple more reds and a couple of missed hooksets.
Just missed a massive rain storm that passed us to the west and with a nice box of fish we were headed to the dock to clean them up.
I had a great time with the guys and lucky for me they were good fisherman which helped out a bunch.
The siphon is running from 5000 to 7000 cfs and with the falling tide it is getting river water as far as the twin pipeline and beyond.
What is not dirty from the siphon is stirred up by the high winds so I guess the trick is find the cleaner water and you will find fish.

Till next time .....Take a trip and rip some lips!!

Don’t let the weather fool you!
Billy Cannon flew in last night from Georgia in his Chevy 707 jet propelled 4x4 truck.....No kidding, he had all the coonasses in Louisiana wondering how the hell he controlled the thing but Billy has been in the aircraft business for a long time.
I heard Alvin Calendar Naval air base picked him up on radar entering Louisiana air space and was ready to send interceptors out to see if he was friendly or not!!
Well once he landed in Delacroix he didn’t have much time before his departure so we headed out in 20+kt winds and tried a couple of spots with only a couple coming on top waters so we made a move to an old standby spot and BINGO IT WAS ON!!!!
Billy started hitting trout as soon as his bait would hit the water with trout knocking shrimp out the water two feet in the air.
He was having a ball just flopping them over the gunnel as we would just let them hit the floor so he could get back out there and get another one.
Well since he was on a meat run for the fish fry back in Georgia I helped out and threw the topwater and it started sounding like a tennis ball being hit by Serina Williams at Wimbledon!
We just laughed as they would knock it in to the air two feet without getting hooked.
Billy wasted no time putting his limit in the box and I was having a blast slinging them in with the topwater.
Well with that done Billy was ready for some reds so a quick jump to the redtober pond and it was rods bent and drags running with nice slot reds that were 25" and one 28" that was hooked to deep to let go and die so we put her in the box for the grill with the other ones.
Billy put his limit on ice and I pitched in with a few more and it was time to beat the rain and get him back to the launch pad for Georgia.
Even with the excessive winds the fish bit like crazy today.
After cleaning up we Got a vector from Victor and a clearance from Clarence and Buzz light Billy was headed back to Georgia at warp factor two!!
All I can say is if a trooper picked him up on radar he would think his radar gun was broke and no way try to engage pursuit!!!
Never did see if he had a parachute on the thing but any way things are getting crazy and there are plenty of trout inside and still plenty left on the outer islands as well.
This should be the best fall season in a while depending on the river stage and the siphon.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!

What a perfect day in the Bay !

What do you do when you call your customer at 5am to check on them and you get an answer that sounds like some one dying on the other end.!!!
Well it seems my two guests ran in to a hurricane last night in the french quarter....actually a bunch of them at Pat O’s and were in no shape to make their trip this morning !
Since the trip was paid for who was I not to enjoy the perfect morning!
Picked up a few shrimp at Lionels and headed out to see if the fish were where I left them yesterday.
With the wind out the N/E at 15 mph and the tide coming in hard it looked like the perfect day.
Stuck the power pole on a point and on the first cast with the topwater she dog a pretty 19" trout came shaking his head side to side as if in total disagreement with what I had in store for him.
After a few more on top missing a bunch of blow ups I switched over to the shrimp and from there to the 27th cast a trout followed suit till my limit was in the box in 40 minutes.
Not a single throw back and nothing under 15".

These trout looked like outside fish they were so big.
Well what next .....RAID FEESH!!
About a five minute ride and tried a point in a bay near Oak River and it was on with the reds as well as more trout in the mix that had to be turned loose.
The first red was 28" that swallowed a She Dog topwater so I put it in the box after doing surgery to get the lure back.
Switched over to a cork and shrimp and the next four reds were all 24" perfect slots.
With a limit of Trout and reds it was time to check on a few other spots and it was like the fish were starving today with fish on the next three spots.
Looks like the marsh is coming alive again and the migration is in full swing .
Plenty of the trout had shrimp and quite a few were stuffed with Pogies so it looks like Mirrodyne time is here.

Sorry the guys missed out but dat’s what da qwata can do to ya!!!

The majority of the trout were almost in the gras they were so tight to the shoreline.

As I said , ti is only getting better as it goes!

Till next time Take a trip and rip some lips!

Marsh/Coastal Fishing Report

Delacroix Island La, LA usa

                          Delacroix report

Yesterday I had some boat maintenance to do so I figured what the heck and brought along a rod for afterwards.
The fishing has been getting better and better in the marsh with decent size trout showing up in the usual fall haunts.
The wind and tides have shifted bringing the water levels back to normal and flushing out a lot of the low oxygen level water from the west of the island.
The trout are still banging the storm minnows on the points and drains and the shrimp are doing real well on the drop offs around the oyster reefs.
After fixing the fuel sender on the boat decided to check out an area where I have been catching some decent size trout close to the dock and was not expecting what I found at all.
First cast with a avocado minnow and was hooked up with an 18" trout.
Not keeping any I released it and second cast thru the next 45 minutes was cast for cast trout from 15 to 19".
I was having a ball but it was like the tree that fell in the forest with no one to share the noise with.
Left that spot and figured I would check one of the bays near oak river and found birds sitting on the water and as expected ...al the tight eyes you could ask for with plenty of 12 to 13" and an occasional 17" in the mix.
Looks like the fall season is upon us and things will only get better as it gets cooler.
The water temp was still mid 80's which will still have plenty of the larger trout on the outer Islands, usually till the second cool snap moves thru.
If box fish 13 to 17" is what you are looking for there are plenty to be had up close from the twin pipeline to the pencil.
Look for slick lines in the bays and lakes and drift them fishing top and bottom as well as anchoring up current from drains and tightlining plastics.
Reds will be in the interior lakes and ponds as usual....green beatles under a cork and spoons should get your fill.

Check our website at www.castawaycharters.com for recent photos and reports.

Delacroix ISLAND la, LA USA

It’s getting to be that time of yearagain!!!

You can feel it in the air.
Ever notice this time of year every thing starts getting a little crazy, The Race for the Chase ...GO MARK MARTIN!! NFL SEASON ...Go SAINTS!!! Drag racing Championship ...GO ASHLEY FORCE!!!! DUCK SEASON.....GO  DAFFY!!! DEER SEASON ...GO BAMBI!!!
Well the time is here when the water temperatures start to drop and the fish start heading for the mash from the outer bays and exterior islands.
The fish will start making their way in to the larger bays and lagoons an begin to ambush the remaining of the white shrimp before they leave the marshes heading for the Gulf.
Plenty of trout and reds will batch up near points especially the ones that have small coves close by that will stack bait in them when the winds blow towards the cove pushing water into them.
The tides have been higher than normal for a while due to the activity in the eastern gulf which allowed the storm minnows to show up and man have the trout been going nuts on them lately.
As the water temps fluctuate the fish will do the same making them pretty inconsistent to pin point from day to day.
If you locate fish in one spot one day the next day they might be gone as the nights get cooler.
What I find is if the fish move they don’t usually move far unless the weather has made a drastic change like a northwester or cold front moves thru.
A good tip is to keep track of what the fish are eating as you clean them by checking the bellies and it is mostly minnows or fin fish the trout will usually be locating on the shorelines or near the grass so fish for the towards the bank instead of away from it.
When shrimp are the soup de’jour try on the points away from the bank and even on the drop offs of the deeper holes.
This is a great time of year to break out the artificial mullet baits like the catch 5 or 5200 series Mirrolures and plastic swim baits that mimic injured mullet and cruise the shoreline looking for the bigger sow trout that will be lurking around the larger lakes looking for an easy meal.
The migration seems to have started a little sooner than usual with plenty of numbers of smaller trout being caught in the interior marsh already most likely due to the high water level and low river as well as mother nature having a way to show the fish the days are getting shorter and it’s time to come inside.......sounds like my Mom when I was a kid come to think of it!!
I know it’s hard to think we are going into the fall season when it’s still 88 degrees outside but thrust me it’s closer than you think.
Plenty of reds are being caught  from the outer bays and larger interior lakes as well as the trout.
Reports of massive schools of reds from the rocks at the MRGO all the way to California pt.
This time of the year I like to use the Deadly Dudley pink Champagne with Chartreuse tail under a cork as well as bounced on the bottom on a 3/8 jighead.
Reds have been hammering spoons, spinner baits and even topwaters as well as dead shrimp under a cork.
Trout lately have been hitting the live shrimp as usual as well as the storm minnows .

Look for fish to start stacking up in Lake of two trees,Lake Coquille ,Lake Robin and Lake Amadee on the Hopedale side and Four Horse lake ,Lake Campo , Round Lake and Oak River Bay on the Delacroix side and as the water cools down they will start moving further west in to Pt Fienne, Bay Jack Nevette, Oak River and the Barge Canal and Skippy lake and Lake Batola.

Main thing is to keep tract of the bait and you will have a better chance of keeping tract of the fish.
Remember the reason you are catching fish in a certain spot to begin with is they were there eating when you got there!!!!

I will try to keep updates on conditions as much as possible on my website at www.castawaycharters.com  So check it out from time to time and drop us a line.
If you are looking for some fantastic fall action NOW Is the time to get the dates in cause we are filling up fast for October thru December.

Till next time ....Take a trip and rip some lips !

DELACROIX ISALND, LA USA

91809   Father and Son Quality time!!
Today I had Buddy and BJ Blackmon on board to rip some lips.
We started out hitting the outer rigs where the bigger trout were hanging lately and found the prettiest water I have seen in a while with the only thing lacking was the tide.
The trout were being uncooperative as we tried several spots with no luck other than a monster 40# Black Drum and some trash fish with a few trout in the mix.
As the winds started to grow Buddy said they wanted some reds so to the marsh we went.
Once we arrived at the honey hole we slowly trolled the shoreline till Buddy struck first with the rod folded over like a pretzel with a nice red busting the surface trying to escape the hookset.
Once we set the power Pole they started slamming reds on every cast filling the 120 qt with no problem.
BJ found the sweet spot and while they were slamming them two at a time I just couldn’t resist throwing my topwater bait in there to see that water explode and that’s exactly what happened with a monster red knocking the bait two feet out the water...talk about make my day !!!
Well we continued to slam reds at will till they had their limit with plenty of 27 to 30" released to wear some one else out till the guys said they were wore out and ready for the barn.
With that I said last cast and put a bait in a pocket the size of a 5 gallon bucket and BAM, a nice 18" trout came to the boat !
Well that raised their eyebrows and BJ said do it again and your’e gonna have three baits in that hole before you know it!
Next cast and Bam another nice trout came to the box and you would have thought they just took an energy drink they jumped in there so quick!!!
It was as if the fish had their nose sticking out the grass waiting for the bait to get to them as the guys started swinging some pretty trout from 16 to 18" over the gunnel.
That lasted for the next thirty minutes and we finished the day with full box of reds and trout and a couple of wore out fisherman that were rubbing their arms on the way in.
It is always a blast to fish with the Blackmons for the past ten years and I think I have figured it out that they mostly come down to take their frustrations out on me from all the pressure they take on their jobs sitting behind their desk in their air conditioned offices eating all those crispy cremes !!!!
As always we had a ball and caught a pile of fish and Buddy being the nice guy he is brought a box of reds back to Bruce in Mobile...what a guy!

Another day of Red-O-Rama in Delacroix with Buddy Blackmon and his son BJ Blackmon.
The trout were being selfish this morning so we opted for the reds instead.
I thought I would never live to hear the day Buddy Blackmon would actually say....The fish wore his AZZ OUT!!!!!
The reds were stacked in a pocket and the guys were catching them at will with plenty of 28 to 30" released to fight again and actually caught the same fish twice with the other hook in it’s mouth.
Must have caught at least 50 and kept 15 and played release till Buddy surrendered.
They caught Reds till they were blue and even put a few SINGLE TAILS in the box for their friend Bruce back home in Mobile.
BJ managed the grand slam with Reds ,Trout,Single Tail and Flounder.
The trout started hitting as we were ready to head in so they finished the day off with a nice flurry of trout from 16 to 18" to cap off the box before heading in.
Will put a full report up later on my website at www.castawaycharters.com with their photos but gotta run for now.

Delacroix island , LA USA

                                       The massacre continues !

When I met up with Mark Hartman and the crew at the Delacroix Destination we watched the radar showing plenty of storm cells directly over the area where I have been catching the best trout lately, so we waited for daybreak and worked our way through the marsh and settled in on an area where we could watch the weather and catch some fish in the mean time.
Mark and his guests Lee, Andrew and Kevin were anxious to get to those trout but the weather was handing us a different deck of cards.
We started out in a cove catching a few reds that were the perfect slot size 23" till we noticed the main part of the rain was passing so we left and took our chances on the trout.
As we approached the area the rain had just quit but the winds were still there kicking up as we set anchor.
Just as the guys started putting some nice trout in the box the winds intensified and before we knew it the anchor started to drag and we eventually drifted over the fish shutting the bite down.
As the winds grew stronger and the water much rougher we  all decided since Lee and Andrew never caught a red fish before being from Tennesee and Alabama we would head for the marsh and get them in on some line stretching rod bending action they had been hearing about.
Well it didn’t take long before I stuck the Power Pole in a cove and the guys started folding rods and drags were singing that sweet tune!
It was three and four at a time with reds running in every direction with the reds doing their best to get loose and giving them a fight to the finish.
It’s hard to explain to those whom have never done battle with a 10 pound red in less than two feet of water what a fight and pure adrenalin rush it can be as the reds bust the surface along the bank exploding water into the air.......other than it’s a pure blast!!!
I even broke out a topwater bait and showed the guys what a red looks like on a surface strike as the bat exploded in the water as the red came half out the water to get to it...totally awesome!
Andrew started out kind of slow missing the first few attempts with fish coming loose or just not getting bit at all even though he was putting his line directly next to every one else.
I started to think he was wearing some type of Red fish repellent till I noticed the depth of his line was different than the rest of the lines so with a quick adjustment it was FISH ON with all four hooking up together.
Lee does a lot of Striper fishing and fell right in to it as well as Kevin from Texas and Mark a local.
It looks like Lee and Andrew are hooked and are making plans to return as soon as possible.

Looks like the fall fishing season will be great one.
As the water continues to cool the trout will move further into the marsh and join all the reds for the annual marsh parade!

Till next time Take a trip and rip some lips!!

ANOTHER GREAT DAY WITH THE TAYLORS !

When Robert called to see if our trip was still on for Friday I checked the forcast while we were on the phone and it was ESE-5 to 10 PREDICTED for Friday so it was a go.
Robert and Jamie showed up with their friend Allen ready for some Black Bay action like they had on their last trip limiting out on nice trout with no problem.
As we headed out in the dark lightning was busting in the distance with clouds and one particular cell right where we wanted to go so we settled in on an outer well head and watched the cell.
Well it didn’t take long before Robert one the first trout of the morning contest with a 17' fish but things weren’t looking good for the home team with the winds picking up and white caps showing so just as we discussing the conditions Robert set the hook on a submarine headed for Cuba that took every inch of line off that Okuma EB30 except for two raps so we hoisted the anchor and gave chase till he got the fish to where we could see it and it was a HUGE Jack Crevalle that had Robert on the treadmill!
Just as robert got the fish close to the boat with a heavy pull the real seat broke off at the rod and the real was hanging free so I jumped and grabbed the real while Robert handled the rod action...Talk about a Chinese fire drill !!!
We actually got the fish to the boat a couple of times with no luck from the net man and the fish made one last effort and it was too much for the Abbot and Costello team and the fish ripped his lip and went free!
Robert collapsed on the deck and all we could do was laugh our butts off.
After reviving Robert with a gallon of water and some oxygen we realized we were rolling around in three to four footers and Robert was turning a some weird colors so we abandoned the trout and headed for the marsh where they hammered the reds putting 20 reds in the boat that were from 22to 27" and completely filled the box.
Allen had the hot spot at first which was funny as hell cause all he was doing was dropping the line over the side of the boat and it would just take off with a big red...no casting problems here!
The only problem Jamie had was the fish wanted his cork more than the bait so just as I was about to tie his hook to the top of the cork instead of underneath it they started to play fair and take the bait instead and Jamie was sticking his limit in the box as well.
Robert on the other hand was still wore out from JACK THE RIPPER and took a little break before getting in on the action and filling his limit.
Before we knew it we had our 20 reds along with some Black drum and a few trout and a flounder and although mother nature don’t always cooperate you can still have a blast even under the toughest conditions.
This was Allens first trip with us but quite evident it was not his first time fishing by the way he kept from getting tangled when things could have truly gotten bad as well as keeping me busy with the net.
Looks like there will be a Red fish Bar-b-q at the Taylor’s and since Jamie left his phone what better reason to just accidently show up when the grill is hot!!!!

TILL NEXT TIME ..Take a trip and Rip some lips!!!!

                         Delacroix report

Lately the fishing has been off the charts depending on the weather.
Most trips have been limits or near limits with no problem.
The water temps have been slowly decreasing bringing more fish towards the marsh as evident by yesterdays trip with Mark and Elroy who came down to fish for a couple of hours.
The winds were stiff when they showed up so we started off in the marsh looking for some reds and BINGO, first stop put almost their whole limit in the box with some pretty trout along with them.
The trout were all from 14" to 18" and the reds were all in the slot range and perfect grillers.
Inoticed the winds laying down a little and although we were still catching where we were we made a decision to try an area closer to the outer bays and man what a great choice.
Once we settled in near a point it didn’t take but a minute before Mark and Elroy were both hooked up with trout up t o19" and steady hitting the live shrimp under the cork.
It got so fast Mark had a tangle in his line that was messing his casting up so I told him to cast out the tangle before loading up another shrimp and with a bare hook he cast out and Yep you guessed it the cork went down and a fish came up!
We filled the box with some pretty trout as I joined in with a DOA and was keeping up with the live bait till we were done.
Mark and Elroy did a great Job slinging the fish over the gunnel and kept the rods bent.
I had a great time with the guys and look forward to the next one.

So far we have been dodging the canes and hopefully it will continue thru the season.
Look for the trout to continue pushing deeper in to the marsh as they follow the white shrimp in with the rising tides.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!!!

A great day with great friends !

Today I had Robert Taylor and his son Jamie along with Paw Paw Mitch on board to fill the box.
Started out in an area that has been doing well and started out with a steady but slow bite.
The dolphins were having better luck than we were as they would crash thru the trout with a vengeance slowing the bite down.
Waited it out a little and it didn’t take long before we started slinging them in three at a time till another predator with a pointed nose came straight thru the fish shutting them down again.....NO not a shark but some guys in an aluminum flat boat !
Still waited it out and once they moved off the top of the fish we started catching them fast and steady again till we had a couple of storm sells heading our way so with 85 in the gloo we left them biting and made our way thru the marsh taking all the back cuts and short cuts I knew and with luck we managed to split two storm cells and arrive with a dry but.
As soon as the boat was under the roof it unloaded all around us.
The guys even helped out the cleaning of the fish which got them on the road a lot quicker.
Robert and Jamie have been coming with me since he was about eight years old and now I look at Jamie which has graduated high school and has become a young man in front of my eyes.
It’s amazing how time flies...I guess it’s like the song say’....DON’T BLINK !
The trout were hitting shrimp as well as the plastics and I just wish we could have had some croakers as well.
I had a blast as always with the guys and look forward to the next one.

                      Absolutely gorgeous weather today !

Today I had Ernie Guth on board with his guests Greg and Darryell to hit the sound and rip some lips.
With an early start we headed where we have been doing well lately and once settled in the gus started setting the hooks using croakers and shrimp.
The bite slowed pretty quick so we made a slight adjustment and it was on again.
The trout were running in schools and at one point it was all nice trout up to 22" then it would slow up and it was all tight eyes passing thru.
Can’t tell you how many 12" trout we threw back but at around 8:30 they  had their limits and they started putting mine in the box for a little while.
It really made my day easier having a guys that were avid fisherman on board that kept them coming over the gunnel at a steady pace.
Greg and Darryll are from Lafayette and fish quite often which made my day a breeze for a change.
It seemed Darryll could not do wrong today and was on the hot spot for the majority of the morning but while the fish were coming off the hook the others were filling the spot quickly.
Greg said his hot spot was in the corner wherever that was !!
With 85 in the gloo they nearly filled the 120 up. They were ready to beat the heat so we left them biting, packed it in and made it to the shade to clean up.
The fish are really starting to hit the plastics lately as Ernie was putting the DOA to the test.
I think when he popped in to this world he made the sound of a popping cork and is now addicted to the sound for the rest of his life.

I had a ball with the guys and hope to do it again soon.

Capt Stan Cuquet CASTAWAY CHARTERS

Delacroix Island la, LA USA

                              A Sound report !

The fishing has been as hot as the weather depending on the tides lately.
Depending on the tide with some trips with early limits as well as having to work for every bite when the tides have been slack.
Plenty of smaller to mixed size fish coming from Lake Fortuna and Lake Campo area as well as Mozambique Pt.
Mixed size schools from 13" to 20" trout have been coming from the outer reefs and structures from Quarantine Bay to the ship channel with plenty of limits coming from Bay Eloie recently.
Dodging storm cells have been the usual and trying to keep a dry but has been a challenge.
Yesterday we split two storm cells running in between both with lightning on both sides and hit it perfect staying dry and loading the box with some pretty trout up to 22".
The trout were hitting on every cast and were just as aggressive on the plastics.
There are still trout with eggs left and are more than willing to hit the croakers as well as the shrimp.
Fishing the wellheads around Stone Island with the hard or oyster bottoms as well as anywhere else will be a good bet for feeding fish this month.
The rigs near the channel like the five wells ,Compressor and on down the line towards Breton Island have been producing the larger trout up to five pounds with the croakers.
It seems they are willing to hit plastics more each day with the Dudley Pink Champagne, and the DOA’S producing real well.
A Carolina rigged shrimp is almost a guarantee in most cases as long as they are feeding and the cat fish don’t get to it first.

The east winds as well as the predicted north east winds will surely bring in some cleaner water with higher levels of oxygen which should put them trout in a better mood in your favorite hot spots.
About this time each year there should be some tropical disturbances popping up in the gulf that will start bringing the water up and if we see a tropical depression pass to our south the feeding frenzy will go nuts for a while ....nothing like seeing those storm minnows show up!
I have been trying to keep up on my website at www.castawaycharters.com with photos when I don’t forget the camera as well as keeping Boodreaux fed back at the dock.

This weekend the tides are good and the weather looks good as well so stop at your local marina weather it be the great folks at Serigne’s Boat Launch in Delacroix or the Campos in Shell beach or the great crew at Breton sound Marina and pick you up some live bait get an early start, bring plenty of fluids and rain gear an RIP SOME LIPS !....OH AND DON’T FORGET THE POLES!!!

I have a few days in August left and am booking in to September so if you would like to get in on some great action give us a call and remember we don’t leave the dock unless it’s in your favor.

Near perfect day in the Sound !!

Today I had Ole Walter and Jeff on board and we headed to the sound with a livewell full of croakers.
Ole Walt don’t like foolin round with the tighteyes so I made the choice to fish the sound and from the time the anchor hit the bottom the fish started coming over the gunnel at a fast pace.
Jeff has relocated to Nashville Tn. Since the storm so he was eager to get a trip in before he returned.
The box started filling quick with trout up near the five pound range and nothing under 18".
Corse Walter still had some antique line on his reels that just wasn’t getting the job done on some occasions and losing a few here and there.
Had a bull red take a three pound trout off my line half way to the boat which got my attention real fast.
Once they reached their limit the lady fish moved in and slowed things up so we mad a quick jump a few yards away and got on another quick bite till I heard a slight groan from the back of the boat after Walter flopped another three pounder on the floor and quickly noticed the fish spit the hook and it flew directly into Walters leg burying the shank beneath the skin.
Well After Walter quit flopping around on the floor of the boat and I managed to get him in the net Jeff GOT Walter to open his mouth and we managed to get the Bogga Grip on him and weighed him in right at 195#......Just can’t say he was a beauty !
With a few short of a three man limit  in the box and still biting ,we decided to head in and get Walter taken care of and get that hook out of him before he turned completely green.
Back at the dock a friend used the string technique and plucked it right out of him and he was as good as OLD!!!

It was a great day to be on the water after all the wind and rain and looks like the weather might cooperate for the next few days.

The trout were caught on - Carrolina Rig /Tennessee rig (ask Jeff) / Topwater in 11" of water / 3/8 jig head and Dudleys and  under a cork !
Plain and simple they were just eating up today.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips

Friday report

 7309

                                                             West wind wins again !

After tearing the trout up yesterday on a scout trip I had all the confidence in the world Ted ,Ryan and Bill would do the same today.
Making our way out in the morning we were met with a stiff west wind and waves on the brink of white caps that had me worried about the area where I found all the big trout the day before.
Once we reached the destination I was real disappointed in the color of the water.
The frontal system that pushed thru the night before with the high winds and rain had pushed plenty of river water in to the area and dirtied things up quite a bit.
I couldn’t even see the troll motor which was real bad compared to the day before.
Still we gave it a shot with only a few that would take the baits and although we got in to cast for cast action it was all catfish and no trout.
Ted managed to find a few hanging around and Bill was steady on the cats with Ryan.
After trying several wells in the area and only about a dozen trout in the box I knew it was going to be one of those days so I told Ted we would make it an expense trip and fish our way back and see if we could find any thing on our way in.
Bill is a wildlife biologist and had not had a chance to go fishing for a while which even had me more disappointed in the conditions.
On our way in we watched several guides fishing under flocks of birds catching dinks so we made one pass and sure enough 10" to 12 ½ “ fish having to measure each one so we bailed on that and tried a couple of other spots before hitting the dock with no luck.

The only highlight of the morning was hand feeding Boudreaux(10' alligator) the trout carcasses and taking a few pictures.
Even Boudreaux had a disappointed look on his face like..where’s the rest of them ?
Hope bill get’s a chance to come back with the guys so I can make it up to him.
I truly enjoyed meeting a guy with such a tremendous amount of knowledge of our echo system and would love to get a chance to discuss it with him some more !
One thing we can’t control is the weather and that’s why we are called guides and not gods!

TILL NEXT TIME TAKE A TRIP AND RIP SOME LIPS!

Great day in the sound !!

After taking a week off to do the family thing and take a break from the heat I decided to make a quick scout for tomorrow’s  customers.
Started out in Black Bay fishing the islands but finding nothing but catfish and fresh water so made a quick change in plan and headed north and started out on one of my favorite spots in Lake Fourtuna and found the fish waiting to be fed.
Had them going on the croakers at first then switched over to the dudley pink champagne on a 3/8 jig head.
Had trout from 17" to 23" coming in cast for cast.
Not wanting to settle for one spot tomorrow left them biting there and headed towards the channel and fish around the rigs near the dope boat and found fish at each one I stopped at.
Fishing croakers three feet under a cork at one rig and carrolina rigged at the other did the trick.
Problem was I wanted to keep six or seven for the house and all I had was big trout up to four pounds.
All I care to eat are the 13 to 14'’ fish not that there is any thing wrong with bigger ones, it’s just my preference to eat the smaller ones.
Made another stop at a well head I normally catch smaller ones on and in about three seconds I was hooked up with another three pounder......what a problem to have !
After releasing quite a few from 2 ½ to 3 ½ pounds I needed to find a few smaller ones on the way in and made one quick stop under some birds by Pt Fourtuna and bingo !!!
Perfect 14 and 15' trout.
Made six cast and had my limit and made my way to the dock to clean up.
I don’t think my customers for tomorrow will mind catching the big trout one bit I kept a limit today for some neighbors that needed them, otherwise I just keep what I’m gonna eat.

Cleaning up the catch I realized  I have a new neighbor under my dock....a Gator big enough to  make a complete set of luggage with matching boots, belt and wallet !
Took a nice picture of her but she wouldn’t smile for the camera.....good mug shot though!

Easy day with an easy limit and calm seas...even had a lite shower to cool things off this morning.

It looks like the water in Black Bay is getting hammered by the siphon as well as the high river thru Ostrica reducing the salinity and depleting the oxygen level.
The closer to the channel the cleaner and saltier the water so I guess that’s what’s holding all the fish in the area.
Be safe this weekend and remember to keep plenty of water on board to keep hydrated !
Like my friend Roger said ...IT’S SO HOT , I SAW A BEAGLE CHASING A RABBIT..AND THEY WERE BOTH WALKING !!!!

TILL NEXT TIME ...TAKE A TRIP AND RIP SOME LIPS!

The big trout are still here...ask Walt !

After rescheduling my trip for today I had a short window to make a quick trip and my old friend Salty Walt just happened to call me at the last minute during the LSU game and wanted to hit the deck and rip some lips.
Made a quick call and Capt Gerry jumped on board and we all headed to the Bay of pigs.
Walt was an old and I mean old fishing buddy of mine from St Bernard prior to the storm but has been displaced far to the north now and never gets a chance to fish Delacroix so I thought since the window was open to let him climb on in.
We made an early leave from the dock and hit the first spot and I could see Ole Walt was in need of some WD40 at first missing a few here and there with the croakers but a couple of squirts under each arm and bingo he was back to his old and I mean OLD self rippin lips and slinging two and three pounders over the gunnel calling them northern tight eyes!
Capt Gerry stayed busy on the plastics and before you knew it the box was filling quick!
As the bite slowed we made a short jump and got on them again with the average being 21" trout but pretty steady.
Walter was explaining how fishing up north is a little different from down here but the same techniques from down here work as well up there on the big lakes.
We were all three slinging yellowmouths over the gunnel at once for a while and once the bells rang eight we left them and started making our way in to beat the heat and to make my deadline.
Well I just couldn’t pass up one of the spots where  I had been doing well lately so we made it a two bait stop just to check it and right off the back more trout were coming over the gunnel and headed for gloo.
Just as we were ready for the run in Ole Walt hooked up with another big trout and it was the first time he said he needed the net and sure enough it was a nice 5.6# PIG not that the threes were too shabby but un net worthy up north!
Walt says he catches them up north all the time so no big deal in the gloo and off we go.
No telling how big the ones that broke his line were even though it was the same 12# mono that was on his reel since the last time we fished together before Katrina !!!!
Noticed a few baitfish getting busted out the water as we were running in and just couldn’t help my self and shut down and pulled out the ole trusty topwater and first cast BAM BAM BAM...yep more big trout coming in and before I could get my next cast off Capt Gerry was folded over with another one on the plastics....man you talk about FISH ON!
OLE Walt couldn’t resist and started tying on a topwater and we stuck the spear and that was the kiss of death.
Well we were ready for the barn anyway so up with the spear and back to the dock this time with a NO STOP GUARANTEE !!
Hurried up and took a few photos and cleaned up with a couple of high fives I made it home in plenty enough time to find out my business had been rescheduled as well..hate when that happens!
It was a blast fishing with Capt Gerry and OLE Salty Walt and I must say he hasn’t lost his touch one bit.....just cant see or hear as good as he use to since he retarded...uh retired !!!

Walt packed his gear and was headed back up North and I just hope he remembers his way back home ...After all Slidell is a good hour away from Delacroix !!!

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips !

                                    The loose Cannon !
Friday Bill Cannon was stopping in to rip some lips on his way back to Georgia coming from Texas on business.
Unfortunately his dad Roger could not make the trip as expected and Billy did a solo.
His objective was to rip some lips and bring back as many fillets as possible for the big fish fry in Georgia with the crew and family  he works with.
After getting thru hours of backed up traffic due to a wreck on interstate 10 in Kenner he finally made it to the dock around 5pm and we headed out to check on an area where I have been doing well near the channel with only a couple of houre to fish and from the first cast to the last we SLAMMED the trout from two to four pounds for a while till it slowed down as if sharks or other species might have spooked them.
With only a few to go for the limit we waited for a couple of minutes and then it started again but the fish were mixed in size with some smaller males mixed in the 14" range.
Went to the Deady Dudley bay chovies and finished off the limit cast for cast and headed in with a perfect sunset to lead us in.

Saturday I met Bill at the dock around 11 am for some redfish action because Marsha his boss at home said if he didn’t come home with redfish basically don’t return!
Made our way to one of the bays and found just what the Marsha ordered!
Red’s were coming in in quick fashion on spoons and beatles under a cork and in less than an hour we were back at the dock with two limits of slots from 20" to 26" for the grill.

Bill asked if we could add another on board for the evening trip so we called in Capt Gerry who joined in and met us at the dock around four and we headed out to the channel again where we found clean water and BIG FISH!
On my first cast with the plastic the first fish hit the deck at four pounds and Gerry and Bill were right behind me slinging them over as well.
Again it slowed so we mad a few moves picking a few here and there and came back to point-a and started all over again till we were looking at another limit fast approaching!
Gerry stayed on the plastics for the most part and Billy and I would switch back and forth to the croakers and plastics.
Billy was leaving for Georgia as soon as we cleaned up so we cut it short with a couple short of the limit and was directed in by another beautiful sunset on the horrizon.

I think Billy filled his quota for the fish fry and I think Marsha will let him return with the reds so all is well we al l ad a blast and just sorry Roger missed this one....we would have probably limited a lot quicker !!!

Had a great time and looking forward to the next one soon.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!!

CASTAWAY CHARTERS

Delacroix Island , LA USA

   Thursday 6-18-09
                                      Girlz gone wild

Today I had Mike and his wife Stacie along with Dave and his girlfriend Britney on board to head after some of those Delacroix Diamonds.
The morning started out on one of the outer islands in Black Bay where a pocket of clean water was holding near an oyster bed and it didn’t take long before the gang was getting busy and making noises and wooing and carrying on......NO NOT WHAT YOU THINK
They were catching trout one after the other in the two to three pound range
Dave found his hot spot and was doing battle with all fish that needed the net and the girls were keeping me busy at the other end of the boat doing the same.
Mike would just wait till they were all hooked up and cast wherever he wanted to and hook up as well.
Things were looking good and the box was filling quick and then from nowhere Capt Dipshit comes directly in front of us at about 20mph running directly over the fish then decides to make a  U-TURN and heads out the other way
With women on board it took all the control I had to keep the fowl language down as the boat nearly rocked off anchor from his waves.
Needles to say that bite was shut completely off so we made our way to another spot and as in most days lately if you don’t get them on the first one the rest will be taken but we managed to get on one area that had some beautiful trout all in the 2+ range with Dave and Mike hitting them on the plastics once again and the girls were rocking them with the croakers.
Every time I looked up Britney and Stacie were hooked up and waiting for the net which made me feel a lot better after what happened earlier in the morning .
Well that lasted a little while and after the bite slowed up I told them we could finish it off with some reds if they would like so we upped the anchor and headed to the honey hole and stuck the power pole one time and in no time we had 25 redfish (two women and three man limit) on board from 20 to 26  Perfect slot grillers and we headed to the  barn with a boat load of fish.
Stacie had to show Mike how easy it was to catch them with artificial using only a beatle and a cork landing some real nice ones.
At one point we had them flopping on the floor four at a time till I could get them all off the hooks.
Mike and Dave was a real help when it came to unhooking them so they could get out there and do it again.
I had a ball with the crew and all though it was a real close call I think the Girls pulled ahead just a little on the numbers but the men had them when it came to size so it was a pretty close race.
Hope to do it again soon.

Till next time ...TAKE A TRIP AND RIP SOME LIPS

Made a trip with Billy Cannon this evening as he stopped in on his way back to Georgia.
Afte rhe got thru Kenner traffic and was held up due to a wreck on the interstate we finally left the dock a little after five pm.
Running down the bayou I got a call from my friend capt George Ricks and we discussed the meatball we both encounterd in the same area.
I should have posted earlier I knew it wasn't George cause any body that knows George knows he is as a professional as they get...plus looks a little like Burt Reynolds !
Well after that we made our way towards Black Bay looking at red water which is usually oxygen depleated and was nervous as to what I would find.
Well two hours later what I found was two limits of nice trout in the box and we were headed back to the dock with our limit.
Started them out on Croakers and switched over to the Blue Moon and the opening night and was slinging them over the gunnel two at a time up to three pounds with a bunch of twos.
Watched a beautiful sunset on or way in and really enjoyed the relaxing trip with some bautiful weather.
Back at it tomorrow.

Till next time ...Take a trip and rip some lips!

                            Just a note!
To the dipshit so called guide or captain in the Nautic Star that did circles over my guests fish this morning before heading in another direction I will return the favor the next time I see your boat and had I not been with customers and with ladies on board I would have most certainly followed you the rest of the day and made you day miserable.
If that is your idea of operating a boat with courtesy I Feel sorry for you and especially your customers.

Even with that we still filled the 120 qt till it could not close with trout and reds which I will post their report later.
