Reel Peace Charters

The numerous oil platforms and other structure off the mouth of the Mississippi provide habitat for enormous numbers of fishes. Red Snapper are the most common and can be caught year round with consistency. It's a rare day that Capt. Peace or one of his other Captains can't put you on your limit of these hard fighting fish. During the winter months it's not uncommon to see limits of Snapper in the 20-25lb class! Other species of Snapper include Mangrove, Lane, Cubera, and Vermilion. Although not as plentiful as the Red Snapper, these species of snapper also frequent the platforms and are consistently caught year round.

We also catch a large number of grouper. The Gag Grouper pictured here weighed in at 52.25lbs is a pending state record! We commonly catch them in the 20lb class.

Amberjack and King Mackerel can also be found around the rigs in large numbers as well as Grouper, Spanish Mackerel, Triggerfish, Bluefish, Almaco Jack, Sheepshead, Jack Crevelle, Pompano, Bonito, and dozens of other species. If I were to write a paragraph on every type of fish we catch around the platforms I'd need another ten pages.

Another common species is Cobia or Lemon Fish. These fish hang out around the rigs, buoys, and rip lines. Regularly an incidental catch while Snapper fishing, Cobia are also popular target fish for those who enjoy sight casting. Hopping from rig to rig or cruising along rip lines we find them swimming near the surface and cast right to them!

The platforms are truly a cornucopia.
