Collete-a pass on the Mississippi near Venice. From Venice we fish the last four Islands in the chain: Breton, Grande Goisier, Little Goisier and Curlew. These Islands offer excellent wadefishing for trout, reds and flounder as well as breathtaking scenery.
The Goisiers are the nesting area for tens of thousands of Brown and White Pelicans who rely on the same rich stocks of shrimp, crabs, and minnows that make these beautiful Islands home to large numbers of game fish. A full boat limit of trout and reds is not unusual as the fish often school up here in large numbers. In the spring the top water action can be phenomenal with sow trout to 8 pounds and reds to 30lbs. Whether you are fly fishing or using conventional tackle, you can be sure to have an exciting time on the Islands. Since the ban of gill nets in the state of Louisiana, we have seen the average size of the trout grow from 15” to 20”. Several fly records have been set from the Islands already and we look forward to breaking more in the coming years. The Islands are one of the few places where very large numbers of bull reds are accessible to the wade fishermen. We have had days when our average red was over 20lbs! The Islands are everything the wade fisherman could want rolled into one. You can fish the surf side, the bays within the Islands or on Grande Goisier test your stalking skills with Redfish finning in the marshy inlets.
If there's someone in your party who doesn't fish they'll have plenty to do swimming, snorkeling or just combing the beach for sand dollars, shells and starfish.
