It was a great Weekend for tuna in Venice, not so great for Ducks. Friday, I ran long and struggled a bit but wound up with two yellowfin and a bunch of blacks. The yellows were not big but they were yellows. Saturday was a completlely different day. We stayed relativly close and from the get go, the fish were on our baits. My crew was up to the task and we spent the next two hours doubled and trippled up on monster Blackfin and some really nice yellowfin. Rick and crew came ready for battle and battle, we did. We had one heck of a cockpit dance going on. We finnished the day with 2 dozen Blacks and two really nice Yellowfin, 100 and 138.
On the way back in, we hit a sandbar right outside of Babtiste that was not there before this little storm. Be careful going in and out of Baptiste. We have plenty of fall days avaliable and still have some prime Winter days avaliable as well. Give us a call to book your trip.

It looks like we dodges the bullet with Ida. The weather looks like it will turn in our favor for Friday and Saturday as well. We have an open boat both days. Hopefully this weekend will be like the days following Ivan when the fishing was off the charts good. Nobody has put any preasure on the tuna in a while and that should work in our favor. Give us a call if you are interested in doing some fishing this weekend. Reel Peace Charters (504)481-1327 Reelpeace@aol.com

Had a great time fishing with Capt. Devlin last Saturday. The ride out was a bit rough, but the boys hanged tough. The weather that was forecasted did not materialize and we enjoyed a nice dry day. Devlin did a great job of putting us on the tuna. A very successful early part of the trip, with us putting four large Yellowfin in the box. As good as the morning was, the afternoon was not, with the fish not biting. The success of the morning made for a great day. Thanks for a good trip and we will be back again for another tuna trip, or maybe try our chances on a lump trip.
All the best, Brad Bassett

We had a blast fishing with Capt. Peace and Capt. Andy. We had a two boat tuna trip planned with 7 guys from Florida. We were supposed to fish on Monday but it was too rough. They were open on Tuesday so we went to plan B. Peace hooked us up with Cajun Adventures that took 4 of us inshore fishing Monday afternoon. We fished with Capt. Curt and had a great time. Everyone caught plenty of trout, it was unbelieveable the numbe rof fish per school. We fished under a couple of flocks of birds and it was ON!!!Nonstop action until he called off the dogs, to go look for some reds. We ended up keeping 84 trout and 8 reds in a few short hours not counting all the releases we had. Tuesday we loaded up the 2 cats and headed offshore. After making some bait the two cats split up to go seperate ways. After a nice ride checked one rig, nada. Made another move, Bingo. They were happy to see Capt. Andy & jumping for joy. We put the baits out and hook up and Ralph Makes Quick work of his fish= popped cherry. Then a little while later Michael hooks up to a nice fiesty one. The fish fought hard, but finally talked him into taking a ride with us. The fish were busting all around us just out of popper reach. We missed a few bites, then hook up to pull the hook after a long strong run. Then we get another bite and it is game on for me. I get in the belt and ask for the harness(tampon) to help me make quick work of the tuna. We spent the rest of our time there because a couple of 150's were busting those lil mackerals out of the water. We didn't want to leave fish to go find fish as we put in out time. Capt. Andy and Barret are great dudes to go fish with. You will not be disappointed period! According to Capt. Peace They had to pull it out at the last stop as the boated 8 yellowfins and released more to be top Dog! Thanks again guys!

We went fishing with Capt Peace, Capt. Andy and Capt. Barret on Tuesday on a two boat tuna trip. Super trip guys, we all had a great time on those smooth riding cats. They got to pop several tuna cherries on this trip. We drove all the way from Florida to fish with the pros! Pics and the rest of the story to follow as soon as we email pics from several cameras. Thanks again for a great and memorable trip.

It has been a while since my last report, we have been pretty busy fishing and hunting. The tuna fishing has been very good for the most part, although my boat struggled on Saturday. The Blue water is back in close and that has helped a bit. The Tuna are eating Hardtails but it will not be long before they start adding Mullet to there diet. The mullet are already starting to school in the River, and that means that the mullet run isn't far off. Hopefully the big boys will be waiting for them. We have plenty of week day openings for the fall and still have a few weekend openings as well. Give us a call to get in on the action. Reel Peace Charters (504) 481-1327

It has been a while since my last report because we have been so busy catching Tuna. The tuna bite has been very good and just seems to be getting better. Most days, herring are the bait of choice but there have also been days when hardtails out fish herring. There have been a lot of 60-80 pounders out there but there are some big boys starting to show up as well. Friday, we had a surprise 140 show up and Capt Andy had a 130 on Saturday. Those are pretty good fish for this time of year. We have some openings durring the week next week and plenty of week days still open next month. Give us a call to get in on some of the action.

Tuna, Tuna, Tuna
The tuna action is finally back to normal. Today, we had 4 boats out and all had all of the yellowfin that they could handle and the best part is that none of os fished within 20 miles of each other. That is a great sighn when the fish are spread out and hungry.Everyone caught there fish on small-medium hardtails. Our fish were a bit line shy and would only eat 60 pound floro but everyone else got away with 80. It seems that the action is finally kicking off and the best fishing is still ahead of us.

It has been a while since my last post because we have been so busy fishing. I don't really know where to start. The fishing has really improoved with the blue water starting to move in and the tuna seem to have finaly acclimated to the Green water in some areas. I Spent most of last week fishing way out in the blue water. The tuna action was good and the dolphin and billfish are starting to show again. Some of the highlights were catching and releasing a Spearfish on Thursday and jumping off a nice blue Marlin on Saturday. It was also great to put some nice Dolphin in the box as well. There have been some larger tuna running around as well. Capt's Andy and Darryl both found a few tripple diggit yellowfin last week. The numbers of tuna also seem to be on the rise. Darryl put Seven on the dock yesterday and I did the Same today. All were good summertime fish. All in all, the fishing is really picking up and it seems that the best fishing of the Summer is ahead of us.
We still have some avaliable weekdays in Augest. Give us a call to get in on the action.

It seems that the Tuna are finally getting aclimated to the green water that seems to be ever preasant this summer. The past two days, the tuna have started to return to there normal selves. We have been treated to some pretty spectactular air shows, which is something that we haven't been seeing a lot of latley. They are still being picky but when you line everything up, the right bait, the right leader and the right spot, they are very willing to play the game. Our biggest yesterday was just over 100. It seems that fishing is on an upswing.
The Swordfishing is about as good as it gets right now as well. Capt Peace stroked them two nights in a row. I am supposed to swordfish on Sunday night and I can't wait.
We had a couple of boats cancle for the Friday-Saturday Tournament that we were fishing. We are dieing to fish and would love to fill the boats. Give us a call if you are intersted in fishing either day.

We fished with Capt. Andy of Reel Peace Charters on June 29 and July 1. This was our first fishing trip of this type. IT WAS FUN! Capt. Andy and his sidekick Barrat (I hope I spelled that correctly) took very good care of us. Just seeing the oil platforms was absolutely amazing. The first day the wind was up and we had to stay in close. We had no trouble finding good snapper. Later in the day we did make it out to one platform and caught a variety of fish including some Rainbow Runners. The second day we were into the Yellowfin Tuna in no time. Our first two fish was a double. It was fun watching my 76 year old dad fight a big yellowfin.
We received an honest day of fishing both days. If you are thinking about doing something like this, don't wait.

The last few weeks have been a bit of a blur. The blue water started way in and has pushed way out. The weather was great then it got a bit bouncy and it is back to great. The Marlin and Dolphin were on fire but with the water pushing out, we are now focusing on Tuna. All in all, the Summer has started with a bang and should only get better.
We have a boat open this Friday and Sunday and a bunch of open weekdays in July. Give us a call to do some fishing.

June has always been one of my favorite times to fish in Venice. The Dolphin and tuna are usually plentiful and hungry. The Swordfish are here in good numbers and you never know when a monster Blur Marlin might pile on a bait. This June has been no exception.
We have had a good rip most days in the last two weeks, but it has been pushing south for the last couple of days. That is until today. Today it had finally pushed back in a bit and the action on it was great. My crew and I spent a relative relaxing day live baiting on the rip. We caught a few nice dolphin and them we watched a big Blue Marlin come up and crash some Chicken Dolphin. We put out fresh baits and hung out by the same grass patch that he had been on. About 10 minutes later, he came up on one of our baits and we fed him forever. When Bo came tight on him, he went straight down. 10 minutes later, he came up jumping and greyhounding right at the boat. We all hooted and hollared, except for bo, He just reeled. And he kept on reeling for the next hour when we got the pig boat side for a few pics and released him to fight again. Needless to say, all had a great time. Peace and Andy had the other two boats from our 3 boat trip today. Peace had some nice yellowfin, one pushing 100 and the other right over 100 and several nice Dolphin. Andy was still out when I left the Marina. Peace said that he was having a tough day when he left him, but didn't know what he had in the box. On Monday and Tuesday, I fished with the Ernest Slaughter crew. We fished the rip on Monday and Tuna on Tuesday. We had 9 dolphin on Monday and 3 yellows and some blacks on Tuesday. Tuesday, we made a very long run only to find dirty Green water. We made the best of in but we really had to work hard for them.
Saturday night I fished with some of my favorite Yankees from Mass, Team redsox. We had a blast and kept 9 Yellows up to 120, a few blacks and a few Dolphin, we stopped at what would fit on the plane home. We really had a blast and were even treated to some great grilled fresh tuna just before sundown by capt. Chef Lee.
Friday, I fished the home builders tournament with David Sides and crew. We started out the day with a Nice yellowfin in dirty water and then headed south in search of the rip. We had just set baits when big moma came in on the short corner and almost smoked an 80W. She put on a great show for several minutes and then she was gone. The wind on broke and we were crushed. Little did we know that that would just be the beginning of our Marlin woes that day. We reset the baits and in 10 minutes, another big blue came up on the short rigger. She followed for a while and then she pounced. We had her on for 10 minutes and pulled the hook. I was crushed but checked out the hooks and everything was sharp. Back out the spread wnet and a few dolphin later, a bit of a lull set in. Just as every one was starting to chat instead of looking at the baits, a third Marlin piled on a Cajun Yap on the long rigger. Again, we pulled the hook on it. I put the baits out and turned around on the line. We caught some more dolphin and just as I was about to pull the baits in, number 4 smoled the long rigger and yes, we pulled the hook again. I was once again fumming mad at the marlin. That is untill I realized that I had just hooked more marlin in one day than I had seen in the previous week combined. It was the best tough day that I have ever had and David and crew were happy as could be. You don't get 4 shots in one day in the Gulf very often.
We still have days open in.July and Augest, including one boat on the 4th of July weekend. We also had a cancelation for my boat for next Saturday. Give us a call to get in on the action.

Just a quick two day report.
The fishing this week has started out with a boom. Monday, Capt. Peace, Capt. Darryl and Myself set out in three different directions. Peace went hunting Dolphin and Snapper while Darryl and I went looking for Tuna. We all found what we were looking for. Peace and Crew had a cart full of 20-40 pound Dolphin from a nice rip and sweetend the box with some really nice Snapper and Aj's. Darryl with a nice box of Tuna. He said that they picled up one right away but it was afternoon before the bite really started. He added that when the bite started, it really started and they picked up 4 more really quickly and they were all in the 100 pound class. My crew and I focused on Yellowfin and we spiciffically went looking for the big ones that we had last week. It started out a bit slow with the busting fish ignoring our baits but that all changed when we hooked a nice 50 pounder on the popper. It took us a while to land him but when we got set up again, the fish decided to eat one of our baits. This was one of the ones that we were looking for. He was tough and it took a while but we finally put a solid 125 pounder in the box. After that, the current changed and the fish spread out. We ended up having to change fishing styles and got 3 more bites really quickly. Unfortunatly, we lost one into the rig cable and pulled the hook on one. We also added a few blackfin as a bonus.
I had the day off today but Darryl and Peace kept the ball rolling. Darryl went out to the same spot with the same crew and got on the Tuna right away but soon, the Dolphin were dieing to get in on the Action as well. They ended up with a box full of the red meat-White meat special. Peace and crew, with two youngsters in tow decided to do the Snapper and Dolphin combo. They had a great box of snapps and Dolphin and had a big Blue Marlin in the spread but saddly enough he didn't eat. I hate to say it but I am glad that it is not just me that is having a problem catching marlin this year, I was starting to take it personaly.
We will all be back at it tommrow, and I can't wait. We have an open boat on Thursday and Friday. Give us a call to get out and put some meat in the box.

What a Weekend! I started out my weekend a bit behind Capt. Peace, Capt. Darrel and Capt. Andy. They all fished Friday and I was lucky enough to have a Friday night Swordfish trip. The rest of the crew were greeted with some stout winds friday morning but managed to catch some really nice Tuna and a bunch of nice dolphin. They said that the bite was very good. By the time that I departed for my Sword trip with Team West Coast, the winds had died down. We started ourt trip way out on a rip that I had heard was hot earlier but didn't produce for us. We saw 2 different Blue Marlin crashing baity but the shunned us. We did pick up a nice dolphin though. As Dark approached, we found a spot for a long drift but soon after dark, the current died. I made an executive decision to move and Deckie Amos and I concured on a likely spot and made the move. The Current was better and we actually had a hard time getting a full 3 bait spread out because the Swordfish kept eating the bait out of my hand. James, Len, David and Marty all got a shot at a Swordfish in a matter of two hours. All but Marty landed there's with his Jumping off not too far from the boat. Fortunatly for us, The fish gods had a treat for us and Marty was the lucky angler. Our middle bait had been the bait getting bit by the swordies so when our deep bait went off and acted strangly, I figured that we might have a shark or something. Marty put a whipping on the fish and it was soon at leader. I looked down in the water and saw something glowing green and I knew that we were lucky. Marty kept reeling and real soon, Amos sunk a gaff in a 50 pound Escolar. Now, that is some fine eating and the icing on our cake. The current fell out and the fishing died off. We ended up going 3 for 4 on Swords releasing 2 and keeping a fat 150 pounder for the table.
Saturday, Peace and Andy once again got on the fish. Andy's crew had the big fish with a nice 130 pounder. They also put some nice Dolphin in the boat. Peace and crew focused on Tuna in the morning and picked up a limit of Snapper in the afternoon.
Sunday, The weather was as good as it gets. Peace, Andy and I fished. As I write this, Peace and Andy are still on the water, so I dont have there report but I had a great day with Ken Baggot and crew. Ken had a 3 man crew and It could have not worked out better. We started out the day in small fish and made a quick move only to find some serious studs. Our first fish at the second spot was our best of the day at 135. The second went 115 and the third went 125. We added a 40 pounder as we were fighting number 3 and broke a couple off before hooking number 3 but once he hit the box, the crew said no mas. These fish were bad to the bone and the crew felt it. We even managed to make it in a bit early and I can't tell you haw nice that was.
We have a boat open Tuesday-Thursday Give us a call to get in on some of this action.

Another wet day in Venice! I broke the pass today with team west coast to relativly nice conditions. All looked good as we made it to our first stop. We put our first baits in the water and in just a few minutes, the dolphin showed up and it was game on. We put two dolphin in the box and restarted our drift and hooked a dolphin and a 90 pound yellowfin. I was feeling great. That was untill Damon pulled up showed up and alerted me to the storms headed our way. We decided to stick it out and it payed off. On our next pass, we caught two more nice dolphin. With the weather coming, I made the questionable call to make one more pass, and it was once again game on. We hooked one yellowfin and missed two more. Len put a whipping on a solid 75 pounder and we headed to the house. We had to punch though a few storms on the way in but in the end, it was well worth it.

I had the pleasure of fishing with the Steadman clan form Oklahoma today. Aside from the constant wet A$$, we had a blast. When I woke up, it looked like the rain was stacked up to the east, so we headed west and we found one heck of a rip. It didn't stay together too long but by the time that it broke up, we had put 11 dolphin and a stud wahoo in the boat. We also had a close encounter of the blue kind but it didn't go our way. I promise that he had a sore mouth though. We will be back at it tommrow and the rest of the week but we do have a few week day openings next week. Give us a call to get in on the action. Where to start? After a wind filled winter and Spring, we were finally able to put together a pretty full week last week. I can't tell you how nice it was to run on a consistantly calm Gulf. The week started out with bluewater close but that changed as the weekend drew near. The number of boats on the water, with two major tournaments changed as well. Early in the week, the fishing was mainly tuna with some nice dolphin added as a bonus. On Saturday. That changed, with 5-10 boats on or near what seemed like every rig on the gulf. My crew and I fished a nice rip on Saturday, missing a nice Marlin early in the morning but with slow going on the meat fish. We did manage to box a couple of Wahoo and a stud dolphin. Andy and Peace decided to keep at the tuna and after the tournament boats headed for the weigh in, managed to finally get on a tuna bite. Both went into extra innings to make it happen. Sunday, with much less preasure on the fish, it was once again game on. Randal Pitre and crew, fishing with me were warned that it had been tough, but seemed unconcerned when the first two baits in the water produced a double on yellowfin. One of them going 40 and one going 90. After that, we went 6-9 on nice tuna. Not a bad way to spend the day. Peace and crew did a bit of a Mixed bag day splitting the focus between some nice yellowfin and some beautiful dolphin. It is funny, we never saw a decent dolphin on Sunday. Andy and the Carric Buffy crew had a tough day on sunday, in the same spot that he had caught fish the day before. He said that the current had dropped out and that the fish were just latahagic. They did manage to box a few fish including a stud dolphin, but had a slow day overall.
The weather and fishing are sure heating up. We have this week completly full but we do have some open weekdays in June and July. Give us a call to set up your bluewater trip.

It looks like this weather is finally going to give us a break again. We had two boats out yesterday, Capt. Peace with the Fulleur crew and Capt. Andy with Heath Dannee crew. The weather was a hinderance, to say the least. By One'o'clock both were so pinned in by storms that they had to run north with there tails between there legs. The good news is that capt. Andy found some tuna in the short time that he was out. The other good news is that the rain seems to have moved on.
We have a boat open this Friday if anyone is itching to go. We also have a few openings in the beginning of next week. Give us a call to get set up. Reel Peace Charters (504) 481-1327

FISHING TO HEAR
As a lot of you know, A few years ago, Several of the Venice charter boat operators got together and started the Fishing to hear rodeo as a way to give back. This year, we will once again be putting on the rodeo as a way to help a young child regain the ability to hear, which is something that most of us take for granted. The rodeo will be held at Venice Marina on Augest 9 with a Captain and crew party proceeding on Augest 8. Once again, just about every offshore charter boat in Venice and Several inshore boats will be competing. Tickets have gone on sale through the website, www.fishingtohear.org. By buying a ticket, you will be helping a deserving child regain the ability to hear and you may just win an all chance for you and three of your friends to compete in the tournament on one of the donated charters.
We have moved the tournament up a few weeks this year in hopes of great weather and great fishing. Again, the tournament will be held on Augest 9 at venice Marina.
See you there.

Last Week seemed to be a preview of a great Summer to come. The weather was cooperative, for the most part, and the summer pattern was starting to get into swing. Even with the high river, which is full of debris, the blue water was close most days. In fact, it was inside of the seven mile rigs several days.
The dolphin have shown up in decent numbers. Each day our boats are coming to the dock with at least a few dolphin and some days, we are catching several. The biggest that my boat caught this week was just under 40 pounds. Peace had a very nice one on Saturday that was probably just over 40.
The Tuna fishing has been a bit up and down. The tuna have been thick but they have been picky and they have been feeling the preasure of everyone fishing in the same area as tends to happen in late spring. The fish and boats started spread out at the end of the week, and that will help. Capt. Andy's crew had a big night on Saturday night on Tuna and Spanked them good.
The bill fish are here as well. We watched Capt. Peace and crew catch the biggest Sailfish that I have ever seen in the gulf on Saturday. Congrats guys. On Thursday and Friday, I saw blue Marlin both days. They were eating on big schools of spawning Hard tails. They are here!
This week looks a little rough early in the week but hopefully it will settle down towards the end of the week. Give us a call to do some fishing.

We left Venice Marina at 5 am 5/7/09 wind flags were laying flat just like the salty marsh that surrounds them. Capt.Peace idled out into the main river and BAM...0 0 fog! With any other Capt. I might have tried to talk him to breakfast and coffee "on me" at the marina, but not with Capt.Peace. I trust his seamanship better than I trust the word of Old Honest Abe! I zipped up for the haul out of babteast colet. The emerald green water was greasy flat. Next thing I knew Breton Island showed her self like a diamond in the rough. Everyone started bussling around with tackle bags and rodnreels, matter of fact three guys were out of the boat before it stopped moving! Did I mention these were not regular guys but all proven trout guides!?! Capt.Jody Donewar, a gentleman and a scholar, had his stringer loaded by the time I passed him fishing my way down the South Beach. The warm, salty water felt good on my legs. The water was so clear I would have bet I was in Boca Raton. My salt and pepper with chartruse tail had started to slow down, so Capt. Jody handed me a Key Lime Hybrid Flurry. It didn't look to special to me, but one thing i know is "When in Rome do as the Romans do!" And trout fishing is Capt.Jody's Rome! First cast and BAM!...a 7 and 3/4lb. Trout!! Biggest trout i have ever seen with my eyes. I have been fishing the islands with Capt.Peace for the last few years and every time i go, the Trout Gods shine on someone. Usually its Capt.Peace but this time it was me. He said cast at the end of those rocks and hold on. WALA!!! My personal best and probably will remain. The mans fishing skills are like baseball was to Babe Ruth. No exaggeration really. Fat speckled trout on Breton Sound Island is the only thing that will get Capt.Peace not fishing for yellow fin because its not like he fishes for them, he cathes them! No kidding really. I would like to thank all the tips and unanswered questons I had about speckled trout and mainly the man that put us on the trout, Capt.Peace. I think we ended up with 150 specs and a few door mat flounder. It was an unbelievable trip. Special thanks to Capt.Jody Donewar,Capt.Kerry Audibert Jr, and the man behind the name and excellent fisherman and overall great guy Mike Lane. Also to my very good friend and avid outdoorsman, Brandon Staton. It's easy to get along with people, when you share the same passions. My wife calls it fishing and hunting, but we all know it's what makes Monday through Friday liveable. For me it's the zip of a Tiagra's bait clicker, explosion of a fat trout on top water, or the chatter of a flock of mallards legs out into a decoy spread. Thank God for Louisiana and fellow outdoorsman. Want the Trout of a lifetime or the back busting pull of a 100 plus lb. Yellowfin Tuna? Call CAPT.PEACE he makes dreams come true.No kidding! 1-504-858-TUNA [8862]

Looks like the weather is finally breaking loose….and so are the fish! I had my buddy Lance Wascom with Tour Supply and the Nashvegas tuna slayers on Friday. As a special bonus Mike Lane came to film a segment for Sportsman’s Paradise. We left the dock early because my plan was to head to some rigs just past the WFO line in hopes of catching the edge of the loop current. After a long haul we pulled up to find a relatively lifeless ocean…the current was not there, the fish were not there. We pulled baits and dropped a few live ones but no takers. At about noon, with our tails between our legs we left in search of some fish. Next stop we caught twice as many fish…none. I was beginning to worry but finally 2 rigs later we put the baits out and almost instantly had a swing and a miss. Encouraged, I rebaited and tossed another hard tail back only to see about a 200lb blue snatch him off the hook immediately. It was awesome. He was all lit up and circling the boat. I quickly put on another bait and pitched it right into his mouth. He went nuts and we got some really good jumps out of him before he broke off. It was good to see a marlin…confirmation that summer fishing is here! After that excitement it was time to put some tuna in the boat. We chummed and steadily put fish in the box for the next two hours. Ended up going 8 for 11 on yellowfin and in the process caught the same shark 3 times! We hit the dock a little late but it was worth it. Looking forward to a lot of days on the water these next few months! God bless, good fish! Capt. Peace Marvel 504-858-TUNA (8862)

Well, it looks like the weather gods may finally take Mercy on us this weekend. This has got to be the windiest April that I can remember. The bait has become cooperative and the tuna are out there. Just remember, this early in the year, you need really small sabikis to catch the bait. We have a boat open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Give us a call to take advantage of this weather break.

Wind, Wind go away.
With a full weekend booked, it killed us to have to reschedule, but this wind has been relentless. Capt Andy tried to get a trip off on Friday but the guys really wanted Tuna and the Seas were just rough to get to them. They made a quick call to spin around and try another day. This has to be the windiest Spring in years. The good news is that it looks like the wind will lay for a bit at the end of the week. We have an open boat on Friday and Saturday. Give us a call if you want to harvest some tuna.

It felt good to be back on the Water Yeasterday. I had the pleasure of fishing with Duke Galagher and crew who have been rescheduled due to weather a bunch of times. We made it out to where the bait had been hiding and sure enough, we filled the live well with some of the best bait that I have seen in a while. There were several other boats baiting up and most had the same plan. I decided to head a diffrent way to try to spread out the preasure a bit. We got to the spot that we were headed to and instantly hooked a good yellowfin. Five minutes later, it was fish on and I was pretty happy about my choice in location. As we were fighting the second yellowfin, another boat pulled up and started to chum. That ended our bite for some reason. I don't know what it was but the fish just shut down. We stuck it out for a while and then made a short move which didn't pay off. We went back to the first spot and caught a few blackfin and a bunch of just short yellows but no more good ones. The boats that fish together did better. I guess that I should have headed that way. We ended up having a blast anyway and Dukes crew was a lot of fun on the boat. Hopefully we will be Swordfishing together next mounth.
We have plenty of openings next week, including the weekend. Our Summer weekends are almost full, if you are looking for a weekend date, now is the time to book.

It has been a while since my last post. The weather pattern has been absolutley misreable but we have gotten a few trips off. The Tuna are showing up where they should at this time of year and the Dolphin will not be far behind. The Snapper will be there when they open on June 1. In fact, they are so thick that you would never belive that we need a shortened season. We have an opening most of the week if anyone is interested.

6 years later and a reschedule, which is tough with having some friends from MO join in, we were able to return to Reel Peace Charters and chase Tuna. Not unlike or last trip, it was eventful again. Spearing a wave over Capt Devlin's boat returning from Thunderhorse and no longer having a windshield for protection and the Tuna door decided to visit the bottom. Needless to say not a dry spot to find. Tuna were tough, but not as tough as making bait. Came home with just a couple of Yellow's this time. Got to visit with Peace Marvel, our previous capt, to relive the old stories and share some new ones. Hopefully we won't have to wait another 6 years, but will return Neptune willing.

It seems as though the Spring transition has begun. We had 4 boats out on Saturday and we had vering degrees of sucess. Andy and Peace decided to make one last run to the winter hot spot and found that the fish had moved on. They both put some jacks and Grouper in the boat but the Tuna didn't want to play the game for them.
Darryl and I decided to do some exploring and both found some willing tuna. Darryl was our top boat with five yellowfin and we had two. We both agreed that we could have killed them if we had had a better supply of live bait but baits were hard to come by. On the way in, Darryl stopped a few placed and found a few baits so, maybe we have found the pieces to the puzzle.
We have openings on Wednesday and the forecast looks good. Give us a call if you are interested. Also, our weekends in Hune and July are going fast, if you are interested in one, now is the time to book.

Capt. Darryl was our only boat out yesterday and he called in a great report despite some less than desirable weather. Of course, the weather man was calling for decent weather but Darryl said that it was anything but. He and the Brett Rahe crew eased there way out to the honey hole only to start out a bit slow but soon, the action picked up and they were picking up a fish or two on each drift. They ended the day with 4 yellowfin, 8 blackfin and an Amberjack that they picked up while Chumming. He said that the sharks and kings were not quite as bad as they have been, he only went through 50 hooks. I remember the days where if I had 25 hooks on the boat, I was confidant. Not this year.
We still have an open boat tommrow and Friday. Give us a call to make some groceries.

Where to begin to begin…….with the exception of a couple days, the last ten days have been wide open as good as it gets. Grand total 49 yellowfin 112 blackfin (large portion released) and 11 wahoo. Throw in a bunch of scamp and amberjack to the pot and that is a whole heck of a lot of fish hitting the ice. My good friend and over ten year customer Lane Foil finally pulled a good weather day after 5 reschedules. It was Lane’s first trip since he had a stroke last year and I can honestly say that I believe the stroke improved his boat handling skills. We have another trip set up for next week so I plan to put him to the test again. He still reeled like an old pro and we boated 6 yellowfin, 10 blackfin and one “to be announced at a later date” fish. : ) Moenski, his brother and 2 cousins also made another trip. Half the crew screamed at the water the whole trip but it didn’t stop us from sending a lot of tuna and wahoo back to Georgia. George’s wife also made my wife and I an awesome Romanian cake that made it hard to believe he doesn’t weigh 300lbs! It was exceptional! On Thursday night I captained Frank Gray, JRs boat for a sword trip but never even got a strike. Mike Lane came along to film a show and I think he kept looking in the water and scaring the swords off. It was frustrating. I thought we would slay them on my new spot but I guess it just wasn’t meant to be. Oh well, still a good time with good people. We took out our frustration on the tuna Friday morning and put ten blacks and 7 yellowfin in the box before 10 in the morning. Anyway, there were numerous other great folks on the boat and I had a blast every single day. I really feel blessed to do what I do for a living. I have open days left this month so give me a call and let’s put some fish on the ice! God bless, good fish! Capt. Peace 504-481-1327 or 504-858-8862

Where to Start? After a rough ending end of the week last week, this week was a whole new ball game. I was fortunate enough to start out my week fishing with some of my favorite people in the world, Marc Amos, Charolette and Mark Hardey and Johney Martinez. We. Got a bit of a late start and Ran into Capt. Andy on his way in from his day trip on our way out. He and his crew had done well with the yellowfin and blackfin. That put a smile on our face and decided that we would begin our morning at the secret spot the following morning. We drifted most of the night and were fortunate enough to put a 70 pound Swordfish in the boat. Marc Amos put a whipping on that fish unlike any whipping that I have seen in quite a while. In fact, the whole crew played a hand in landing the fish and demonstrated unbeliveable team work. We made our way to the tuna spot at daybreak and Peace and the Frank Grey Jr crew were already there. In fact, they were already hooked up as we fell in right next to them. Peace and his crew were steadily whacking the Yellowfin but all the we seemed to catch were Blackfin, oh, and several big Sharks, kings and bonita. We had a blast anyway and spent a solid 3 hours hooked up. We called it a day about an hour after Peace and headed to the house with a very nice mixed bag of Swordfish, Blackfin and a Bonus Wahoo that Amos caught on Flouro and a chunk. We met Peace back at the dock to clean fish and we were all very impressed with his haul of yellowfin and a nice Bonus Wahoo as well.
Capt Andy fished on Friday with team Aquasport and they too were on a roll. They were done by noon with as many Yellowfin as they could ice down. They fought a stud for over two hours and after iceing him down, they headed north with all of the tuna that they wanted. He said that the big boy was between 165 and 170. Nice work if you can get it.
Saturday once again saw Andy, Peace and Me on the water with eager crews. Peace had George Oprea and crew, I had the Andrew Oliver crew and Andy had the Mike Cassidy crew. We all headed back to where we have been fishing and all had good results. Peace once again had the hot hand with the Yellowfin, litteraly stacking the box with them along with a few blackfin and once again a bonus Wahoo. My crew was hot on the Blackfin, once again, but we did add a yellow to the box as well. By 1:00 pm, we had so many blackfin in the box, that I was embarrased and we called no mas. And and his crew had a heck of a mixed bag with the biggest of our yellowfin of the day, a really nice 65 pound Wahoo which was caught on a chunk, Several Blackfin and a couple of nice Jacks. All in all, everyone had a great day and went home with there bumpers dragging from all of the extra weight in the back of there trucks.
Sunday was more of the same great fishing. I fished with Steve Schluter crew, Peace had Todd Lenten and his buddies and Andy had the JR crew. After an interesting ride in zero visability fog, We all got to the spot to find very different conditions from the previous days. The Water had been blue but today it was. Dirty Green. For the the first 20 minutes, I was concerned but all of a sudden, we put a blackfin in the box and then pulled the hook on a ufo. Then we broke off another ufo, I was thinking that that they could have been the ever presant sharks, but they sure fought like yellowfin. Just then, Peace called me and said that He was hooked up on a good fish. About that time, the action started for us and we got into a serious rythem. We would hook a fish in the back of the boat and walk it forward. Then move the other two rods to the back had hook another. We put Four good yellowfin in the box along with several blackfin in the box before the smoke cleared. Our biggest yellow was the toughest 110 pounder that I have ever seen. It took us an hour to put him in the box. He spent several minutes swimming on the top of the water with his sickle fin waving at us. It is really cool to see that yellowfin contrasting the green water. While we were fighting that fish, Peace called and said that they were done and that he was going to make a quick stop for some Grouper before heading to the house.they had stroked the yellowfin and added several blacks to the box as well.
Capt Andy and crew were just as Busy as Peace and I were. In fact, they actually beat us back to the Marina by a few minutes. He was cleaning there last Yellowfin, a fat 90 pounder when I pulled up. He had already filled there ice chest with several Yellowfin and Blackfin before we got there. JR's truck had a 45 degree tilt to the back as he drove away. That is some serious weight.
What a great Week it was. We were blessed with great fishing and weather. March has been a great mounth so far and the fishing does not look to be slowing at all. We have boats open all week if anyone wants to get in on the action. Reel Peace Charters (504)481-1327 www.reelpeace.com

We went offshore Thursday afternoon with Devlin Roussel and Reel Peace Charters in a quest for swordfish. Due to my lateness, we didn't leave the dock until 4:00 p.m. to run to the secret sword spot.... The weather was great (although cool running down the river), and the 36 Contender did well, although I have to admit I miss the space and comfort of the 30' Glacier Bay - hopefully it will be up and running again soon with some new Yamaha engines.
We arrived at the sword spot and immediately began setting up our drift. Devlin had some "mongo" squid to entice the big boy (or girl) to bite. We hooked up three Tiagras (either 50s or 80s - I don't recall the specific mix) on Cape Fear rods (I hate the fact that Cape Fear went out of business - best rods ever) to our sword lights, and down went the baits... BIG squid - 2-3 pounds apiece.... We had two disco balls and one solid green light... Turned off most of the lights, set out the glow stick, and commenced to waiting.... (On my last sword trip with Devlin, the waiting wasn't a problem, as we had two bites fairly quickly after setting up, which resulted in one 220 pound sword and one 180.) Tonight was a little different.... not much action, although the glow stick provided plenty of entertainment, as squid, flying fish, and other various denziens of the deep constantly moved in and out of view. A call to Peace confirmed that they weren't getting much action either - which was a huge surprise since Peace has been on top of the sword bite this year.
Around midnight, we finally got our bite - although I have to admit that had I been the captain, I never would have known - TWO little clicks on the clicker, and a tiny little "buck" of the rod in the rod holder. Devlin heard and saw the bite, and came tight on the fish. I took the rod, and after 15 or 20 minutes of fighting (and yes, I used a harness), a nice little sword came to the boat - probably 75 pounds - not the monster we were after, but a nice fish nonetheless.... We boated the sword, and then ran a short distance to another spot to try another drift... Alas, not much happening there, either, as we raised Peace on the radio again and confirmed that they hadn't had a bite.... The swords are there, but for some reason, they just weren't real active that night.
At daybreak, we started our run to the honey hole to see if we could find some more fish to fill the box. When we got there, Peace was already there, and had started filling his boat with big yellowfin - he ended up with a number of real nice yellowfin, and at least one wahoo as a bonus fish.... We started fishing, and it wasn't long before fish were all over us... Unfortunately, a lot of the fish were of the big grey variety, and we ran through a bunch of Mustads in getting to the tuna. We stayed after the fish, and started boating blackfins.... With four fishermen on the boat (myself, Johnny Marquez with Fishhead Gear, and Mark and Charlotte Hardy), there was rarely a moment when one of us wasn't hooked up, and we had numerous double and triple headers. There was always something on the end of the line, and we started fighting over who WASN'T going to have to pull the fish in...
A couple of highlights worth mentioning - Charlotte was the high angler, and boated 5 or 6 huge blackfin (easily 25 to 30 pounds or more), along with numerous back-busting shark encounters. Marquez and Mark both worked over the blackfin and sharks, and added bonita and one king to the bait box so we could keep our chum going. I mainly tried to keep our chum supply cut up, ready and available, and helped Devlin snell hooks - one after another. On one occasion where I was running the chunk drift, I got a bite on a long drift. I grabbed the rod, threw the drag to strike, and upon feeling the hook, the fish, rather than running down like a tuna or shark, began running out on top, and then straight back to the boat.... Devlin coached me on staying with the fish (mainly telling me to reel like hell), so I reeled like hell as the fish worked back towards the boat... I guessed a king mack was the culprit, but Devlin was non-committal while staying right by me and telling me how to work the fish around the boat. I was pleasantly surprised when a nice 50 pound wahoo hit the deck. Turns out Devlin was pretty sure that it was a wahoo, but didn't want to jinx me until the fish hit the deck. Not a little luck was involved, as we were fishing with 60 pound flouro, but that little Mustad circle hook set right where it was supposed to... Towards the end of the trip, we were all too tired to pull in another fish, and so we made Devlin pull in the last fish.... a big (I'm guessing 12') hammerhead was on the end of the line, and we got a bunch of pictures of the fish before we released it unharmed. I can't say enough about those Mustad hooks, as that shark was hooked right in the corner of the mouth - Mustad must sharpen the hell out of those things to enable them to do what they do.
Made our way back to the dock with some exhausted but happy anglers. Final tally - 1 sword, 1 wahoo, 14 nice blackfin, and three full ice chests. Thanks to Devlin and Reel Peace Charters for an incredible and unforgettable trip. While Devlin's not much of a shot when it comes to deer hunting, he's the best blue water fisherman I've ever had the pleasure of fishing with. I'll post the pics once we get a chance to download them all.

I would love to say that the end of the week was as good as the begining and mid week, but it simply was not for us. On Friday and Saturday, I was joined by Trey Asunto and crew. We headed out to where we had been slamming the tuna on friday. I prepped the crew by saying that the tuna have not been turning on until later in the day and warning them that we would have to deal with a bunch of sharks and kings until they turned on. Well, part of that statement was accurate, we dealt with a bunch of sharks and kings but the Tuna never made there preasence known. By two o'clock, with one slodier down for the count and the seas building, we called it a day. We fished hard but in the end, the fish won. We had plenty of Action but none of it was the kind that we were looking for.
Capt. Peace had the Andy Lucas crew on Friday and there day was much of the same. Lots of Action but no tuna. They stopped on the way in and put a few deep water grouper in the box, but no tuna. It was a tough day all around, back at the marina, there were only two boats that had really done anything. Congrats guys, you did well on a really tough day.
Saturday, with a worse forecast, we decided to stay close to shore. We started out chasing redfish at SW pass, but caught nothing but catfish. The water was chocolate milk and cold, so we decided to head to eastbay and see what was in there. Our first stop demonstrated that we have plenty of snapper over here. We caught snapper up to 15 pounds in as little as 35 feet of water. The snapper were absolutley thick as theives. We moved way up into the bay, where you can always catch a redfish and it was just more snapper. It was insane. The snapper seem to be taking over.
Sunday, we cancled due to the 5-7 forecast. It turns out that it was 5-7 but they were just big swells and we probably could have fished. Hopefully the fish turn back on this week, especially the Swordfish as I am hoping to do my first sword trip of the year this week. We have plenty of week day openings this week and next. Let us know if you are interested in fishing. Reel Peace Charters www.reelpeace.com (504)481-1327

Speaking of fishing……..
Saturday I had the Eastern European Fishing Team(EEFT) on board and they were a hoot! By the end of the day I had named them “Larryinski, Moeinski, and Curlyinski” and of course I can’t forget their American sidekick, Rob. We started out the day fishing for wahoo but had no luck.. We only found Mrs. T wahoo (AKA king Mac) and they were a bit too thick and hungry. After unhooking about 5 too many of them we decided to go give the yellowfin a shot. First bait in the water….king, second and third…sharks. We reset our drift and tried again. Someone must have thrown the switch because almost every bait in the water from then on resulted in a yellowfin bite. There was a distinct learning curve for the EEFT as we lost our first few fish to various mishaps but after a few tears and polish words I didn’t understand, it was game on and the blood started flying!
Most of it was tuna blood but I donated a little bit as well. First fish took about 45 minutes to land and it was only about 80lbs. I had seen some big fish in the slick and was surprised that the fish we landed was so small. Next fish was nuts. He ran all over the surface and around the boat about 4 times. A big shark had to be after him. I felt like I was chasing a marlin down. It took a while but we finally stuck gaffs in a 135. All the fish we caught were pretty active on the surface and gave the crew quite a run for their money. Best moment of the day came toward the end. George (Moeinski) was on the last fish and Rob was on the video camera. We had been fighting the fish for about 30 minutes when we finally got color. George started yelling, “Feel me, Rob, Feel me.” Rob, thinking George was boasting about how hard the fish was fighting replied, “ Ya, I feel ya George, He’s a tough one.” Again, more franticly, George started yelling, “ Feel Me! Feel me now! Start feeling me, hurry!” Rob and I looked at each other, confused about what George wanted him to do when it dawned on me that what George meant was “Film me’! His accent made it sound like “feel me”. We laughed so hard I almost forgot to Gaff Georges fish! It was our big fish of the day weighing in at 153lbs! Final tally 6 yellowfin with 3 going over 100lbs! I had a great time with them and look forward to having them back again soon. Looks like Tuesday and Wed are going to fish and the action doesn’t get any better so get off the couch and let’s go fishing!
God bless, good fish! Capt. Peace 504-481-1327 Office or 504-858-8862 Cell

With less than perfect weather for most of the week, we were really looking forward to fishing on Saturday. Saturday morning's weather was great. Life was good. Addy had team CG, Peace had the Polish fishing team and I had the Dan pate crew. We all had the same luck early in the morning. Nothing but kings, sharks and Bonita. On my boat, we went through 73 hooks before we bloodied the ice. Andy hooked our first tuna and soon, it was game on all around. The kings seemed to just turn off and on went the Tuna. Every boat in the area reported the same thing, it was incredible. On my boat, we put a Blackfin in the box followed by a 135 pound yellowfin. From then on, we had yellowfin in the slick non stop. When the smoke cleared, we had 6 tuna in the box and decided to bug out to beat the rain. Not a bad way to end the day.
Peace and the Polish fishing team (they were actually Polish, no joke) Fared about the same but there big one of the day went 157. They also had a close encounter with a big Mako that didn't end the way that they wanted. George and crew seemed pretty darn happy at the end of the day.
Andy and crew mixed it up a bit. They put a bunch of Blacks and a 3 yellows in the boat and decided to add some white meat to the box. They put a limit of Jacks in the box and went in search of some hooters. Unfortunatly, all that they found were more of the dreaded kings. I can't ever remember seeing this many kings out here but if the tuna stay like this, I will keep tieing hooks on.
We have a boat open on Tuesday and Wednesday if anyone wants in on the action.

Here is another picture of that 106lb wahoo that we caught last week. James just e mailed it to me and I thought it was a better depiction of just how massive this hooter was.

February 8, 2009 Went out with Peace for a day of Tuna chunking. The night prior was a little troubling as the forecast was for 6 footers. We decided to try it anyways and see what happened. In the morning, we got out of the river and it turned out to be in the 3 foot range with that being maintained or less for most of the day. I love when the weather reports are wrong on the positive side! We started catching some bait that was going to be used for chunking and had all that we needed within 30 minutes. We worked some bottom structure drifting and chunking. Pretty quickly we had a nice wahoo in the slick and hooked him/her almost immediately. After a nice 15 minute fight, the 70 pounder came aboard. After that, we had a steady block of fish in the slick with a mix of bonita, sharks, and yellowfin. The first yellowfin to come aboard was a 155 pounder after about a 25 minute fight. Over the next 2-3 hours, we picked up 4 more yellowfin that were between ~70 and 110 pounds. All were picked up on chunks. A great day on the water and will be back as soon as possible!

The Good, The Bad and the Ugly
There was some of each this week.Thankfully, the fishing was the good part. The weather was bad at times with serious fog mixing with rain being the bad. The ugly was a blown engine on my boat on the way in on Friday. Luckly, we had some nice fish in the box to make the long ride in a bit less misreable.
Darryl and Peace both fished on Thursday. Peace made a report earlier but Darryl and the Wayne Tibadeaux crew had a great day on the water. They started out Wahoo fishing and after putting a few hoo in the box, they switched over to chumming up the Tuna. Darryl said that within minutes, the Tuna came up in the slick and it was game on. They put three good ones in the box along with a couple of Amberjack and called it a day with a nice mixed bag.
Friday saw me on the water with the Al Easom crew and Darryl and Andy out with the Phillip Freeman crew.I choose to run directly to the tuna spot and Darryl choose to start out bulling Bombers for some hoo. We both found out the same thing, that the King Mackeral were going to be a PIA all day. Our first three hooks were bit off bu kings and he called to report a tripple on kings while trolling. On our fourth hook, things changed, we put a 30 pound Blackfin in the boat. The fith bait prooved to be a lucky one, we hooked something big. It fought like a Shark at times and a Tuna at times. My only guess was that it was the mythical Hammerfin Tuna. We fought it for an hour before seeing it. We got a quick look at a very nice Yellowfin just before it made another long run. We were pumped and the energy on the boat was renewed. It took another 15 minutes before Al got it within gaff range and it was game over. We put a second gaff in her and pulled her over the side. She made an impressive thud as she hit the ground. There was a quick round of hi fives and it was back to work. We fed some more hooks to the kings and eventually put another black in the boat. Then we had a short lived hookup on a Mako but it was very brief. Then the kings and Bull sharks decided that we were too good to pass up. We probably lost 65 hooks to the toothy gang after that. Darryl and crew made the best of our bad fortune with the kings by catching 4 yellows and some jacks while we kept the kings off of them. We decided to head to the house to weigh our fish but as luck would have it, I lost a motor 5 miles from the fishing grounds. We made a long ride in and got in way after dark. We got rained on several times and the fog was as thick as I have seen but after a long ride, we made it. The marina was still buzzing when we got there at 9:00 pm and we were able to weigh our tuna after all. She went 161. Congrats guys, you guys did a great job.
Saturday Saw just Andy out with the Phillip Freeman crew for there second day. They started out in some pretty good rain and it never got much better. The fishing was worth getting wet for. They finnished up the day with 3 wahoo, the biggest a 96 pound slob, a snowey grouper and a limit of Jacks. I was told that one of the wahoo that they lost was bigger than the 96 pounder. That must have been a stud. There are some really nice hoo running around right now.
Today, I was planning to fish with on the crawgator with my buddy Gerry Bethge. At 4:30 I was awakened by thunder and heavy rain. It didn't look good for the home team. I looked at the radar and it looked worse for the home team. I got up and headed to the marina. I talked with Bill Butler and we decided to hold off. At 9:00 when the rain still had not broken, we had to call it. Hopefully, I will be able to get the motor back up and running pretty quickly and we will not miss too much of this good fishing.

Yet another banner day offshore yesterday! Jeff Martin and his dad Dick drove 15 hours from Ohio to fish yesterday. They almost didn’t come because of an iffy forecast but after hearing how suicidal the fish have been they decided to go for it. They were not disappointed! We started off pulling baits for Wahoo and had a swing and a miss on our first pass. Three rigs later we finally had a solid hook up. I could tell that the fish was big but I knew it was not a wahoo. Sure enough, first fish in the box was a 50lb amberjack. The next pass we caught and released another and decided to move in search of hooters. Every rig was jam packed with AJ so I tried pulling on some contour lines. Though we typically fish the rigs for wahoo, I have been trying something different and fishing some bottom structure. Last week I caught several hooters and a couple yellowfin fishing over ledges. Yesterday we didn’t have to pull very far before Jeff was reeling in a 50lb wahoo! Something I have noticed fishing the ledges is that I rarely get doubles or triples it is almost always singles. About a half hour later Big Daddy Martin was reeling in an even bigger one. After that fish we decided to try chumming for some tuna. Two hours later we had not even seen a Bonita in the slick so I broke out the bombers and starter pulling again. First fish, a blackfin. Second fish, a blackfin. Third fish, a bonita. I knew the yellowfin had to be around so we reeled the baits in and started chumming again. This time it was almost instant. Jeff was on the reel and in 20 minutes put his biggest yellowfin ever on the ice- a beautiful 136 pounder. After that it was non stop action and we boated 3 more and called it a day. You know it is a good day fishing when at 2pm the crew says “OK, that’s enough”. I am taking the next three days off to celebrate my 21st birthday with my beautiful wife and kids but I will be back at them next week. If you have been waiting for the fishing to heat up before booking your trip wait no longer! Call 504-858-8862 cell 504-481-1327 office God bless, good fish! Capt. Peace
