Stacy Campo

meraux, LA USA

Well guys I haven't posted in awhile. But, I have been reading your posts. I am a member of "The Save Louisiana Coalition" This is not just a small cause as many of you may think! Our coalition is made up of many different people. We are not just commercial fishermen, we are growing every day. We have land owners, many different types of business owner, charter captain's,every day fishermen and many more. This is NOT just a small cause.... we are in a fight for our way of life and lively hoods. Most of our families have been here for many generations and they also worked hard to save what they had and leave it to their families to carry on.
This is just my personal opinion and only my personal opinion. And I feel that we are in a fight of our lives. I understand that many of you will disagree with me but, everyone has a right to their opinion. I am just simply asking that you think about this.
What if these diversion are placed and put to work. How many local business will go out of business? What about the gas station, grocery stores, oil refineries, Wal-Mart? What will these people do to support their families? What if you work for one of these places what will you do for a job? Will it be ok for you to have to move to find work? And learn a new trade?
This is not just about my family its about many families....Where will you buy your seafood that you love so much? Where will you take you children fishing?
Im sure many of you haven't thought about these things but, I have.
My husband and his family work 7 days a week 52 weeks a years. I have heard my husband say many times that he doesn't get up at 3:45 every single day just to make a living and to provide for his family. I have heard him say that he also does it for the simple joy of seeing a young child come in with his first fish! He enjoys hearing that child relive that moment as did his Grandfather "Blackie"! Yes, he does work very hard everyday but, he will always stop what he is doing to hear that story. And I am sure that if you are on here you have your own story of that first fish that you caught. That is something that you will never forget.
And this is just one huge reason that we are in this fight. If these diversions are put into place and put to work....it will be that simple what you have will just be a memory!
I have heard many charter captain's say the same thing....they love to see a child caught his/her first fish. And they love to be apart of that memory.
We are not asking for a fight we are simply asking to be heard.
When we were hit by the BP oil spill, BP came to the fishermen first and asked for their help. Why? Because, they know the tides, the marshes and the have lived on the water and know it the best. So, why not ask them now? All they are asking for is to just be heard and let them show what they know to be true and what may or may not work!
If you are reading this, I am asking you to just do one thing rethink what you are reading in the Master Plan and try with an open mind to see that there are many other ways to rebuild our coast. I don't disagree with the entire Master plan, I just see some flaws in it. And if we the people are giving the chance to show what we know it could work out better in the end for everyone.
Please try to remember your first catch and how you felt...Do you want you child or Grandchild to never have that memory?
Thank you for your time. And please try to see this with an open mind.

Robert Campo - Campo's Marina

Shell Beach, LA USA

TROUT BITE is on at THE BEACH!!!

Go no further than Lake Borgne, my friends!!!

Today, my Uncle Ken was fishing with his two fishing buddies by the old navy base and the weather station in Lake Borgne, just minutes from Campo's Marina. They came back with 75 2-3lbs trout! Now, you may be thinking "Robert, are you BSing us?!" Fellas, this was the God's honest truth! I saw his ice chest with my own 2 eyes, and I watched him fill up his boat and only burn a half a gallon of gas! Great day for my uncle!!! There was also 2 other boats fishing by the old navy base, and they each caught their limit of 50 specs!  All the fish were caught on Campo's famous live shrimp 2ft under a popping cork. The trout bite is on in Lake Borgne, gents!!!!

Today was also a great day in Bay Eloi and Breton Sound. All my charter captains and weekly patrons had limits of beautiful specs caught from Little Central, the Dope Boat, Big Central, Five Wells, the Cement Rig in Bay Eloi, and, of course, the infamous Rocks. All you have to do come on down to the BEACH and put a Campo's live shrimp in water and hold on tight!!!

Guys, I know they are calling for rain, but that is why man created a rain suit! Get suited and booted, and head on down to Campo's Marina in Shell Beach! I wouldn't steer you wrong!

Remember, at Campo's we have 2 backdowns, ice, gas, diesel, and the live bait money can buy! I look forward to seeing you all this weekend, rain or shine!

We appreciate your business!!!

Thanks,
The Campo's; Mabel, FJ, Michael, and Robert

Marsh/Coastal Fishing Report

Robert Campo - Campo's Marina

Shell Beach, LA USA

QUICK REPORT FROM THE BEACH!!!

Even with the recent high winds, there has been a considerable amount of fish caught by the rocks in the MRGO. When I say consdierable I mean any where between 35 and 60, which isn't a bad day by any means. There was also specs caught in protected areas in Bay Eloi around Blind Lake and even along the rocks of the MRGO close to Shell Beach.

It is looking like this weekend is going to be an expectional weekend to be fishing. The main thing is to find clean water. I truly believe that if you are a able to find clean water, you will put fish on ice. With this new moon coming, those big trout are going to be making their way to the Breton Sound, if they arent there already. For those of you biting at the bit to catch those big trout at Breton Island and Gosier Island, I think it is very worth your wild to give it shot! Let's face it, you don't know until go and fish it!

Weather permitting, I believe the following locations will be ideal to stop and throw a Campo's live shrimp: the Rocks, the rigs in Bay Eloi, the well heads in Lake Machias, the rigs in Breton Sound, the Dope Boat, Jankie's Reef, Bayou St. Malo, and Bayou Sue. Now, don't hold to the cross on these spots, these are just a few places that just might produce a full box of specs.

I hope y'all take might advice, and I hope to see y'all on Saturday morning! I'll be waiting for y'all with my bait net in my hand! Remember, at Campo's we have 2 backdowns, ice, gas, diesel, and the only live shrimp with the guarantee to catch fish or die trying! I will see y'all at the BEACH!!!

Y'all come on down and see us!!! At Campo's, you're not just fishermen, you're family!

We appreciate your business!!!

Thanks,
The Campo's; Mabel, FJ, Michael, and Robert

I think it is very UNFAIR that I am catching crap for a few posts that posted a week ago....and I still so believe that I have a lot to learn about what is going on before I get on here and start to post things that are not true. I am in this to help not to hurt anyone! It DOES NOT matter if I am women or not! The bottom line for me is I want to help. And say what you must about me it will NOT change the fact that I will learn what I need to learn about this and I will stand firm with EVERYONE else that is against this! So, for you people who spout craziness under a fake names, you need to own up to who you are and not hide behind the fake person that you truly are. I have had a few people go at me and that's ok! Because, un like you guys, I have put myself out there! And I did not and will not hide who I am!
And to Mr. Need Change... Yes you do need to change!

Look guys I know the weather is bad today and we are all stuck inside....And this back and forth is getting heated and we are going to lose sight of what we are in the for! We can bring up meeting that have already been had and we can fight over who should have been them but, Look, we can't go back to those meetings!! They have been had so lets just keep moving forward and deal with what's at hand NOW! I am new to Rodnreel and I thank Mike Lane for allowing me to express my thoughts on his forum. So, with all do respect to him I will NOT STOOP to and rabbit punches. If you have anything ugly to say about me here is my # 505-858-0566, please feel free to call me. And I like Mike Lane will answer. I am in this fight for the god of the people not just my business. I have been fighting for coastal restoration for very long time now and I will not stop until the man above give me my last breath!
I do however have a husband that work 7 days a week and 16-17 hours a day to serve the public and supply them with what they need to take their families out on the water! Just as his Grandfather and Great grandfather has done for 107 years. Yes, I am a women, a wife, a sister and a grandmother and I want my family to be able to continue to enjoy what our families have enjoyed for all of our lives! And you can say what you want about me, but, I will NOT give up! And I hope that you will not lose sight of how important this is to many!

I would like to take a few a seconds to introduce myself to all of you guys. I have posted a few times on here a while back but, I am sorry to say that it's looking like you guys will be hearing from me a lot more. So, first of all my name is Stacy Campo, I am married to Robert Campo of Campo's Marina. My maiden name is Menesses. I have 5 children and 1 Grandson. I am a stay at home wife. Which simply means that I have a lot of time on my hands... LOL! And I am going to fill that time with getting educated in this diversion issue. My family has been here in St. Bernard Parish for over 200 years! They were trappers and fishermen. I am not willing to let my families way of life be lost because, to this diversion.
After Isaac I went head to head with Mary Landrieu, David Vitter and a few others. I am not afraid of a GOOD fight!! I have been fighting for many years just to try and make people aware that we are a community and we are one of the oldest fishing communities left in the state. So, let me just say this...I am going to learn as much as I can on this issue, I am afraid to piss a few people off by calling them NON STOP until they hear us!! If the phone calls don't work they will be seeing my face!! I for one am pissed off! I am sick of being tossed aside and being treated as if we are nothing and easy to get rid of!!! So, with this said, I would like to say to MARY....If you thought I was a thorn in our side after Isaac, hang on BABY because,I am back, and I am just getting started!!
Backing down is not something that I understand nor is it in my nature!
EDUCATION is the key here!! And the more we know and learn and share with each other the STRONGER we are as a people!!
So, remember my name STACY CAMPO!!
And I am pissed and ready to fight this all the way to the end!!
Oh and by the way I am not afraid of an debates on this issues. As of right now my knowledge maybe somewhat limited but, that is changing every single day!! Just because, I am a women doesn't mean that I am weak in anyway! (Just Ask my Husband) And remember I have raised 5 kids!! And 2 that really gave me a run for my money. So, I am ready for what ever needs to be done!!
Now you guys have a great day...I have research to do!!
Thanks for reading my rant!

In response to enough:
I have a life long friend who has been in the dredge boat building business all of his life and believe me he is NO school boy in this business. He told me for $884 Million he could build a 30 inch dredge, put it to work 24/7 365 for 8 1/2 to 9 years. And build no less than 9 foot bal fields A DAY!! So, if you ask me I'm SOLD on this idea.
The bottom line is "Dredge DO NOT Divert!"

I must admit as of last night I was some what in the dark about this diversion. But, as of right now this very second I am collecting information about the pro's and con's of this diversion. I have been on the phone all day with who ever would talk to me about it! And I must say I am in shock. I do have a limited knowledge about it still, as there are many aspect to it! But, from what I have heard and learned I am for one worried! I do understand that some diversion do work and they seem to work well. However just like a finger print... no two are alike! So, what may have worked in one place, may not work here!! We can debate this until we are all blue in the face but, that will not solve anything. At this point we need to gather as much information about OUR coast line in the South East as we can. And from what I can see we really have our work cut out for us. We as a people can get this done! I understand that every one has the right to an opinion and I for one welcome them all but, before you state your opinion, please ask your self if it will help us in our FIGHT! I am also asking that we DO NOT fight among each other. We DO NOT have time for it! What we do have time for is your help! Please Don't be part of the problem....be part of the solution!
I have not really post on here before but, I will be posting as much information as I can as I find it out for myself. I will also be creating a Facebook page for you guys and gals to follow. So, lets HIT the ground running and end this before it ENDS us!
All my best to each and everyone of you guys.

Stacy,

It's so nice to have you posting about the travesty being thrust on us by Governor Bobby Jindal

I never thought I would see the day that a governor (Bobby Jindal) would allow the destruction that these massive diversions will cause.

We haven't even had time to study the animals that are on the endangered species list.. We will get to it!

I think all of people that will be wiped out by this theatrical experiment when if destroys the brackish marsh.

Hundreds of thousands of families will loose their ability to make a living and keep the homes.

We will loose a culture that has made Louisiana world famous!

Don't men, women and children deserve to be protected?

God save Louisiana from it's own state government!

In response to Mike Lanes post...Yes last night's meeting was AWSOME! For those of you who don't know me, I am Robert Campo's wife Stacy. As I was the only women there last night, I have to say it was a great FRIST Step! I was very excited to see the amount of people who joined together for one reason awareness about this diversion. It was wonderful to see the all commercial fishermen, Business owners, recreational fishermen, and others all come together for one reason. So, I am going to do put this out there and challenge everyone that was there and even the ones who could not be there...I challenge each and everyone of you to go home and talk to your wives and your friends and fill them in on what could happen if we DO NOT take a stand. And  then have them have in return talk to their girlfriends and friends about this diversion. Look I understand that in the world that we live in today it's a man's world but, we as women we also have a strong voice. I for one Do NOT want to lose MY PARISH or community!!! My family has been here for over 200 years and we are still here as a strong commercial fishing community that, love to have the recreational   fishermen here with us. This is VERY personal for me and my family and our community.
What we ALL need to understand is this...if we lose our land our parish as a whole will suffer. We will lose  an untold amount of revenue. The Louisiana seafood that we pride ourselves on will NO LONGER be available, and recreational fishermen will leave. The camp owners will leave. And that will cause the parish to lose a huge amount of money. I am still learning about this diversion and how it will effect us! I was very pleased to see everyone come together on this very important matter last night and share what they know and learn what they didn't. We need to make other people aware of the huge impact this will have on everyone not just the commercial fishermen! And if we stand together as whole we can make it work! I for one do not want to see anyone have to take a 30 mile boat ride to do what they love!! Or sell their camp's that they have worked so hard to own and enjoy! So, please start talking NOW to any and everyone that you know and are willing to listen!! I will NOT give up on this one!! I will do what ever it takes to ensure that we educate as many people as we can about this!
I am sure that if we all stand together and learn as much as we can, we can win this fight! We all have the same goal in this....and that is to save what we have! There is NO other place like St. Bernard parish in the world and that is why so many of you guys and gals travel down here to fish!!
So, again I challenge each and everyone of you who read this post to start talking about this diversion and spread the word and NOT only talk about it but, learn about it and what it can do to us!
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and I hope you accept my challenge!

I had a great talk today with a good long time family friend, Bob Wetta, Who by the way along with his brother Billy Wetta, own Dredging Supply Co.located in Reserve, LA. and guess what they do? They build suction dredges of all sizes. They build them from an 8 inch dredge to a 36 inch dredge. They have used and sold them all of the world for many years. Between the two brother they have a healthy wealth of knowledge in this field. I asked Bob, how far would $884 Million dollars go for a project like this. His reply was simple, he said Robert, we could build, The Corp of Engineers a 30 inch suction dredge, work it for 7 days a week, 24 hours a day for 365 days. And it would take roughly 8 1/2 to 9 years, at the cost of $884 Million dollars. That would be taking sediment from the Mississippi River and getting real results. This could be done without disrupting the lively hood of the hard working fishermen and the same goes for the anglers! Bob, also expresdovesed to me that a 30 inch suction dredge could and would  build up enough land to equal 9 football fields a day. The measurements of a football field from end zone to end zone is 120 yards and is 53.33 yards wide. This could also build it 1 yard thick. I am asking you to think about this...! Imagine what our coast line could and would look like with this....It's really a NO Brainer on what's more effective.
So, with all of this said I'm going with the " Suction Dredging!"
Just Saying.
And I am asking all that may on the fence to just think about it!!

Straight from the beach.....
My first post of the night will be a matter of a few facts about the Diversion issue. I have told you guys how grand Isles, La., was bar none the largest producers of brown shrimp in the state! Well, I have had a chance to speak to a few of my dad's (F.J Campo)old buddies from down that way. And to my great surprise they told me that since the Corp. put in The Davis Pond Diversion in place, the lakes production of brown shrimp is grossly in a spiral decline... off the charts from what it once was! I however DO NOT shrimp over on the west side of the river. However the stories that they shared with me sure do sound alike what's happening down in Delacroix Island. So, with that said I had only question for the group for fellow fishermen....and that was, Did that diversion produce any land? Their response was very cut and dry and very CLEAR it was...."HELL NO!" What they did have to about The Davis Pond Diversion was it made for some GREAT BASS Fishing!! Now, with that said I ask you do these stories sound similar? So, lets clear this up....I do think that everyone is for coastal restoration. So, what I am asking is simple...since we are all for the same thing and want to be on the same page....Let's try t do this the right way and only have to do it once! I think I can speak for most of the people of in St. Bernard, Plaquemine and Jefferson parishes as a people and community we CAN NOT AFFORD any more economic impacts!! It is our wonderful Federal Government that want's to shove this down our throat's. It would be much easier to swallow if it was done right the first time.

Robert Campo - Campo's Marina

The Trout bite is on at the BEACH!!!

It is that time of year again where the east shoreline of Lake Borgne is holding plenty of specs and reds due to steady falling tide. When fishing the east shorleline, the key is to find moving water. If you see any little bayou, ditch, or cut with water moving through it, stop and fish it. I have had anglers catch specs and reds from Bayou St. Malo all the way up to Petite Pass. In the last few weeks, I have seen plenty limits of the both specs and reds that were caught on the east shoreline of Lake Borgne using this simple tip. When it comes to fishing, trust me, I'm a doctor.

My nephew, Blake, and my brother, Eric, have fished the last two weekends and have limited out on specs both times fishing the east shoreline of Lake Borgne. The fish were caught on Campo's live shrimp, 1 1/2 ft under a popping cork. And, if them two can catch fish, believe me any body can do it!

Guys, the fish are biting so y'all come down to Campo's Marina in Shell Beach!!! We have 2 backdowns, gas, diesel, ice, and the best live bait money can buy! Forget the long lines and take a left at the Yscloskey Bridge for fast and friendly service where before you know it, you’ll be at your fishing spots! Also, we are available by water for you anglers coming from the Violet, Chef Pass, and the Rigolets. And remember, you’re not just fishermen, you’re family!

We appreciate your business!

Another FANTASTIC day at the BEACH!!!

The bite was on again today! The day started out with not much wind and slow moving tide, but that did not stop the fish from biting! We had anglers catch plenty fish at the short and long Rocks, Bay Eloi, Breton Sound, and Black Bay. Also, I have had guys catching plenty specs and reds by the Fort and Old Navy Base, Doulette's Canal, and along the east shoreline. You really do not have to go far to catch plenty of fish. Campo's live shrimp has been the bait of choice and the fish are eating them up!

So to be apart of this great fishing season, y'all come on down to Campo's Marina in Shell Beach!!! Blake Campo

Austin, TX USA

Hello anglers,

My name is Blake Campo. I am the oldest great-grandson of Blackie Campo, from Shell Beach. In the summer time, you can find me serving bait or catching live bait for my family's marina. The rest of the year, I attend St. Edward's University in Austin, TX.

The reason I am writing this post is for some information on the domestic shrimp industry vs. the imported shrimp industry. My final paper of my college career is summed up by this normative question: Should the Federal Government implement taxes and tariffs on imported seafood to support domestic commercial fishermen?

I know that a lot of people read these posts and you all come from very different backgrounds. I would really appreciate any and all information that any of you might have on this issue. I am really concerned with current laws or past laws that have impacted this controversy.

Again, I would appreciate any help I can get. If you would like to help me out please email me. I look forward to hearing from you all.

I hope to see y'all this summer at Campo's Marina!!!

Fish on,
Blake Campo

Robert Campo - Campo's Marina

Shell Beach, LA USA

A quick report from the BEACH!!!

Yesterday was good day of fishing! The redfish were not as aggressive as they were a few weeks ago. The people that did fish off of the road did land some keeper reds but they also caught plenty of throw-backs.

The anglers that ventured away from the bank fishing did catch plenty of reds behind the Yscloskey gas plant and in the Biloxi Marsh. As the weather warms up, the trout are going to be coming out of the deep holes. This means that they are going to be hungry! Places like Stump Lagoon, Crooked Bayou, Muscle Bay, Pete's Lagoon, and the Lake Eugene areas are going to be producing plenty of fish. You all have to come on down a get a piece of the action!

Y'all come on down and see us at Campo's Marina in SHELL BEACH!!! We have 2 backdown ramps, ice, gas, diesel, and bait. Remember, at Campo's you're not just fishermen, you're family!

The REDFISH are BACK!!!

I saw that an angler had posted that he came down to Shell Beach and did not get a bite. I think he went by the online name of cabdss. In response to his post, the fish were caught by the bridge yesterday and closer towards Yscloskey. Sometimes the fish get spread out and are not closely packed together. In those situations, you might have to move around a little more to find out where they will be. They get spotty sometimes and it takes trying a few areas, even on the Hopedale side of the bridge. If you have further questions please email me. I will be more than happy to give you any pointers and comments.

Anyway, yesterday redfish were caught in Shell Beach Bayou but, like I said, they were spotty. I don't know if the fish were moving or what but they were not closely packed together like they were last week. Regardless, fish were caught and I'm sure the bite will be back on through the weekend!

Also, we had some anglers catch their limit of reds behind the Yscloskey gas plant and in the pipeline canal. You do not have to venture far to catch your limit in Shell Beach!!!

I also want to just give a sincere THANK YOU to everyone who posted a report about us on the dead bait controversy. Those reports really showed us at Campo's that we have the best customers that anybody could ask for! We see it as this: You can please some of the people some of the time, you please most of the people most of the time, but you CAN'T please all of the people all of the time. And we understand that. With that said, I would like to put the bait controversy to rest. Again, I just want to thank everyone that has supported us and hope to see you all soon!

Y'all come on down and see us at Campo's Marina in Shell Beach!!! We have 2 backdowns, ice, gas, diesel, and bait. Come and see us, and we will point you to the fish! Remember, at Campo's Marina you're not just fishermen, you're family!!!

In response to fishermen:

Just so you get things straight, each pack of shrimp is 2 pounds. So that means that each pound of frozen shrimp is $3.00 each, which comes out to: 2 lbs per package * $3 = $6 per package.

Blackie did not raise any fools. And it was him who thought of the idea to freeze the shrimp so anglers could have some sort of bait to fish with in the winter time.

I want you to take this into account. We catch those shrimp fresh in the summer months. We package them fresh and freeze them fresh during the shrimp season. We have to buy the packages and the bags to freeze them in, not to mention that we fill up 7 deep freezers full of frozen shrimp packages. It takes a lot of time and effort to package and freeze the shrimp. I also do not want you to forget about the electric bill that it takes to run those freezers all year long. When you thaw out those shrimp for fishing, it looks as if they were just caught.

Blackie was the one who came up with prices, as well. To honest, with all of the effort that goes into packaging the frozen shrimp they should be $6 dollars per pound, but we only charge $3 dollars per pound.

I don't want you to think that we screwing you over. I just want you to know what it takes to get those shrimp in the condition they are when you receive them.

I have not had any other complaints about the pricing of my frozen shrimp, but if you can find them cheaper and in the condition that we package them, I would love to know where that placed is located.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me.

Sincerely,
Robert Campo

The Campo's would like to thank everybody who came out to fish off of the bank to enjoy the redfish fishing from Thursday through the weekend!

We had a great turn out! And the best part is the fact that everybody caught plenty of fish!

Again, behalf of Campo's, I would like sincerely thank all those who came out and saw us at Campo's Marina!

The redfish were on FIRE in Shell Beach Bayou for the last week! But, the warm weather has pushed them back into the marsh. However, they are only a short boat ride away. As the weather warmed up, I had anglers catch LIMITS of redfish in Joe's Canal, Dudenhefer's Canal, Green's Ditch in Bayou La Loutre, and behind the Yscloskey gas plant. If you have a pirogue, canoe, or boat come on down Shell Beach for some great fishing close to Campo's Marina!

We are suppose to get another cold front soon, and I predict that it will push those redfish back into Shell Beach Bayou. When they do, I will post it on rodnreel.com and announce it on the the Don Dubuc Show. So y'all stay tuned....

At Campo's, we have 2 backdowns, ice, gas, diesel, and bait. Y'all come on down and see us, and we will point striaght to the hot spots!!! Remember, at Campo's, you're not just fishermen, you're family!

Tough day at the office today....

Not many fish were caught today, fellas. The fish that were land were caught in Stump Lagoon, Crooked Bayou, Issac's Ditch, The Dam, and by the pipeline signs up the ship channel going towards Verret. But I think its just the beginning of the bad news. This cold front that is going to come through tonight and tomorrow is going to result in high winds out of the Northwest. This is going to dirty the water up in many spots making fishing a little tough, not to mention it is going to be cold. Even with all the bad conditions, we hope to see y'all out tomorrow at Campo's Marina in Shell Beach!

A report from the BEACH...

LOW TIDE WARNING!!!

Today, the tide was once again extremely low. Fish were still caught in the ship channel along the rocks before Bayou La Loutre, The Dam, Lake Eugene, Muscle Bay, and Crooked Bayou. The fish are out there, but I want everyone to just be careful and aware of the low tide. Be cautious of mud flats, stumps, and other boaters in small, tight canals.

I want to encourage everyone to come on out to Campo's Marina this weekend for some great fishing! I know the water will be lower than normal but the fish are out there! Tomorrow, we are celebrating my grandmother's 90th birthday so y'all come on out and help us celebrate!

At Campo's Marina, we have 2 backdowns, ice, gas, diesel, and plenty of live shrimp that are guaranteed to catch fish or die trying! Remember, at Campo's, you're not just fishermen, you're family!
