The shrimp and croakers must be active in order for them to get the attention of the larger trout and red fish.
You can fish live shrimp a number of ways. They can be free lined, under a popping cork or Carolina rigged. The live bait business is a family affair at Frank Campo's Marina in Shell Beach. There are many family members that do different things to keep the marina and live bait business going to enable them to provide the many sport fishermen supplied with live bait.
Pictured on the right is Michael Campo unloading a boat full of live shrimp.
Michael and Robert Campo are kept very busy trying to keep up with the demand for live bait from fishermen fishing from Campo's Marina. As you can see by the pictures the live bait business is very demanding. From the live bait boat that is sectioned off and aireated to keep the shrimp and croaker alive and sassy to the tanks that are used to hold the live bait. Large pumps are used to provide the oxygen that keeps the live bait lively and provide the fishermen with the best live bait availible. The results of all the time and effort will show up in your catch.
These live baits are guranteed to catch fish or die trying. Although there are plenty fish caught on artificals, there are times when nothing but live bait will work. I'm sure you have been out fishing without live bait and not doing very well when another boat very close to you is catching fish after fish using live bait while you cast your arms off to no avail. Don't get caught short. Bring live bait at these times.
