BLACKTIP SHARK

(Carcharhinus limbatus) Blacktip Shark is distinguished from most other species by the black fin tips, and the lateral shading, which suggests two slightly overlapping streaks.

World Record: 270 lbs 9 oz, Malindi Bay, Kenya, 1984. The blacktip is a schooling species, abundant in the northern gulf and our offshore rigs. Blacktips are swift, voracious fish eaters. When a rig is "thick" with these its time to catch you limit or move to another rig. Even if you catch something else first you will probably end up with the shark. The fish is good eating fried and will stand up to the grill. This fish has a strange odor that is not evident at all when cooked.
