Yet another great 3-day trip with Captain Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters in Venice, LA. Great weather and even better fishing for bull reds. Started good the first day and just got better. Last day was awesome with 36 reds boated, all too big to keep up to 32 pounds. Would have had one bull red personal best, but a big shark had other ideas. Front third weighed 22 pounds! Picture attached of one pair that weighed 26 and 32 pounds. Rattletraps, Tsunami plastics, and Cocahoe minnows did the trick. Do yourself a favor and call Capt. Keith for the trip of a lifetime. Can't wait 'til the next time. All the best, Gary Clark

Just about the time I think my redfishing trips with Capt. Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters can't get any better---they do!!! Just returned from a terrific 3 day trip out of Venice where on the first day alone I had 22,23,25,28,30, and this beautiful, very long, 40 pounder (pic). One of my fishing companions had a 49 pounder as his first red of that same day! We had two days of spectacular bull reds and on the last day loaded the box with nice trout. Can't beat it! Give Capt. Keith a call at 504-908-3108 for the trip of a lifetime. Thanks Keith for another great trip. Gary Clark

Fished with Tibby Bartram and friends Minnie and Mercedes a few days back, great day on the water. We fished the outside beaches south of Venice and put together a nice box of REDS and Trout. I’m fishing the clean to off-color water on the out side with live bait, find the bait-fish and you’ll find the Trout and Reds stacked up. I have a few days open in June and July is booking up fast………….

Had the pleasure of fishing yesterday with John Welch and friends Jim and Gary. Headed down river on the east side to Blind Bay. The wind was tough but the water looked good. Dropped the anchor and never moved. The bite was steady to fast, using a combination of live shrimp or plastic under a cork. Ended the day with 54 beautiful Trout between 2 and 5 lbs, also picked up a good number of nice Reds. Fishing down in Venice is getting better by the day, looking forward to a great spring and summer.

Fished the last couple of days with Leon and Linda Tomczyk from Boca Raton, FL. Headed downriver on the east side to Redfish Bay, wind and water conditions were off and not much going on. Leon wanted some redfish action so I turned the boat towards South Pass. Good move, the redfish were stacked up against the rock jetties. We fished with live shrimp the first day and minnows the second – Carolina rigged on the bottom. The redfish were absolutely on fire and had no problem landing and releasing 40 to 60 per day.

Just completed another terrific redfish outing with Capt. Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters in Venice, LA. Despite high winds and a cold front, we lost count of the number of bull reds we caught in two days. Often, for 1-2 hours, it was a redfish on every cast! The fish were caught on a variety of lures, including cocahoe minnows, Rattletraps, spoons, and yes---topwater plugs like ChugBugs and Popadogs. Capt. Keith has the best deal going, so give him a call. This guide can flat locate the fish! Thanks again, Keith, for another fantastic trip. We thoroughly enjoyed it! All the best, Gary Clark

Fished three days this week with Don Flynn, John Burford from Hot Springs, Arkansas and Don C. Jackson professor of fisheries management at Mississippi State University and avid outdoors adventurer and writer. Weather conditions were not exactly ideal---wind, rain and off color water down river but overall we had a very productive three days. With the river falling and a few early cold fronts on the move, it’s looking like another fantastic fall for fishing in Venice, La. Day one, we headed down river in search of BULL REDS. The wind was out of the southeast at 15 to 20, light rain, stained water and moderate chop, not the best of conditions but as everyone who fishes Venice in the fall knows, the BIG REDS are in and around the passes --- willing and ready for a fight. The preferred bait of the day was live finger mullet attached to a ¾ oz. lead head or cracked crab rigged Carolina style. We finished the day with a nice box of keepers and released a good number of Bulls. Day two started with jet-black storm clouds on the horizon and the wind was dead calm. A cold front was due to pass through later in the day. We decided to fish on the backside up river in the yellow cotton area. The day started with a bang, first cast --- fish on. The trout were under the birds diving on shrimp. Preferred bait was chartreuse beetle under a popper, no big fish but lots of action. Around 11:00am the bite slowed so we moved off to fish for reds along the canes. Around the same time the rain and wind moved in to make for a wet afternoon. The reds didn’t seem to mind a little wind and rain and the bite was steady. We fished live finger mullet under a popper. We finished the day with 62 trout and a limit of reds in the 22’’ range. Day three started with a brisk northwest wind and clear skies. We decided to head down river and fish the outside beaches for MONSTER REDS. Needless to say, the BIG BOYS were ready to play. Bait of choice --- cracked crab Carolina rigged. We caught too many fish to count, a day to remember on a Louisiana barren coast, how lucky we are.

Went fishing with Captain Keith today in Venice. I had to take the levee because hwy 23 was stillclosed for about 10 miles. The parish told me you can take your boat across on the ferry. The redfish were hungry and plentiful. We caught a few nice flounders as well. It was great to get out on the water and Captain Keith had a fresh pot of gumbo back at the lodge that was to die for. Fill a Sack in Boothville has groceries and Elzy had fuel. His lodge and boat had no damage from the storm Born to Fish Charters 504-908-3108

Great trip, fishing with Matt a professor at LSUNO and his two sons Noah and Gabe from Mandeville, La. Left the dock at first light and headed south to fish the outside beaches for trout and reds. Weather, water and tied all looked good but the bite was off. Due to the slow bite we found ourselves on the move most of the day. We caught a few quality fish each time we stopped but no numbers. We ended the day with a respectable box of good size trout and reds. I must say, a most enjoyable day with Matt and his two boys.

Fished with a group from south Texas --- They were looking for some MONSTER REDFISH action. I assured them they came to the right place and guaranteed them one for the wall. Much to my surprise another boat record fell --- 45 lbs.--- on the button. This big RED fought like a large Jack, almost spooled the reel twice. At one point I suggested we break him off (thought it was a Jack ) and get back to catching REDS. When the fish finely came up for air everyone in the boat – gasped in amazement. This girl was released unharmed to fight another day……SEE PIC !!!

Two-day report, fished with a group from Shreveport, La. Mon. and Tues. On Monday we fished the outside beaches from South Pass to Blind Bay. We put together a nice box of 16’’ to 21’’ SPECKS and a good number of BULL REDS. With the river on the rise and the summertime pattern established, there are several things to remember when you’re on the hunt ---- clean water, bait fish, good tide movement, live shrimp in the box and be patient. The best advice I can give is to keep moving until you find them and don’t give up. On Tuesday we started out in the Blind Bay area, a lot of boats but not much going on. These guys needed to be back at the dock for noon, so the pressure was on, cranked the motor and headed west. Eight miles and sixteen minutes later (BINGO ) we dropped the anchor and loaded the boat with 16’’ to 24’’ SPECKS. Not another boat in sight, just how I like it…

Fished with Charlotte and Tibby on Friday, two young ladies from Florida. Little did I know I had two fishing machines from the Sunshine State aboard and ready to rack havoc amongst the redfish population of south Louisiana. The girls slept in so we got a late start. Left the dock at 9:30am with a strong southeast wind, crossed the river to the east and started fishing around 10:30am. Between 10:30am and 4:00pm these two girls, using only 6 lb test, boated and released # 109 REDFISH between 16”and 27”. Needless to say these two wore the Capt. out, high fives and big smiles all the way back to the dock.

Fishing date: April 26th, 2008 Location: Venice Winds: 5 knots
After a day of killing the Tuna, we decide to go for some inshore Redfish action. We arrived at our destination at six thirty and had three Reds in the floor of the boat before Capt. Keith Kennedy could get the anchor set. Unfortunately, the cooler was full of our favorite beverages so we had to throw the fish back. I lost count at 60 Reds and we were done by noon. We did manage to make some room in the cooler to box a few. Capt. Kennedy fried them that night and the feast was on! Excellent trip, some of the best Redfishing I have ever done and his lodge was better than being at home.

Fished with Gary Clark, Jim Quinn and Tom Gantt last week. On Tues. with calm winds we decided to head for the outside beaches south of Venice for BULL REDS. After two or three stops we found the mother load of gold backs feeding in the surf all were 27’’or larger and the largest went twenty-five lbs. On Wednesday we decided to try our luck on LARGE TROUT, as it turned out, the fishing gods were with us. We headed for a large bay downriver and decided to tight line plastics, our tactics paid off big time. Ended the day with a nice box of large trout, average weight was between 31/2 and 6 lbs. On Thursday we woke to heavy fog and didn’t leave the dock until 9:30 am. After the fog lifted the wind came up strong, turned the water over in the bay we were fishing. Talked to another Capt. who said the bite slowed around 10:30 as the wind picked up. Made for a hard day on the water. Had a good number of hookups but for some reason they kept throwing the hook at the boat, go figure. All things considered we had a great time and definitely caught our fare share of fish. High water or not, the fish are in and doing their thing. The Redfish bite is absolutely out of control. It’s time to fish and quit thinking about it. Hope to see you on the water.

Hey All! Just back from another terrific trip with Capt. Keith Kennedy and Born to Fish Charters of Venice, LA. Despite high water we caught bull reds up to 25 pounds the first day, and lots of big trout the second day up to 6 pounds. Best producers were H&H Cocahoe minnows in black and chartreuse. I have fished around the world and I still say that Capt. Keith's all-inclusive package of food, lodging, and great fishing is one of the best deals ever. Fished two days this week with Don and Alice Speaks from Bossier City, La.The first day started with rain, after the rain quit, the wind blew like there was no tomorrow. A stiff north wind turned the entire Yellow Cotton area upside down. Needless to say the fishing was tough. Ended up with a few keeper reds, several black drum and a couple of flounder. The second day turned out to be a beautiful bluebird day with a slight wind out of the northwest, perfect for fishing the sandbars on the outside for Bull Reds. Left the dock at first light and ended up on the outside of southeast pass. The water on top was muddy but with a strong incoming tied there was green water only six inches down. We fished under the birds diving on bait and under the bait huge schools of MONSTER REDS ready and willing. Needless to say the battle was on, nonstop action for the next several hours. Lost count at fifteen or so and had two that toped the scale 35 lbs. If the river doesn’t rise and the wind doesn’t blow the fishing this spring should be just fabulous.

Tuesday December the 8th, fished the Yellow Cotton area with a group from Imperial Fire and Casualty Ins. Co. --- Noel Bunol and three co-workers Greg, Scott and Clinton. Water temp 64’ and green, strong south wind and clear. For the past few weeks the Yellow Cotton area has been producing real well on top water plugs, not today. Overall it was tough fishing--- the bite was off big time. We ended up with a mixed bag of SPECKS, REDS, BLACK DRUM, FLOUNDER and a few nice BLUE CATS. Nothing to write home about but considering 78’ in mid January, a nice day on the water. For The Best That Venice Has To Offer (Born To Fish Charters)Is here To Serve You. Just spent 3 days fishing with Capt. Keith Kennedy and would like to report an outstanding experience. Three of us went on this trip and were treated with good room and board (the food was really good) and excellent fishing. Our party caught lots of big redfish. Most days we lost count but the last day we hooked up to 85 reds that ranged from 10 pounds up to 28 pounds. Fun was had by all, Even the fish had fun since they were all released. We plan to go back.

What a fantastic redfishing trip! For three days (Oct 9-11) we fished with Capt. Keith Kennedy of Born to Fish Charters in Venice, LA. We caught big reds everyday, but the last day was spectacular. We caught 85 bull reds up to 28 pounds, all on artificials---spoons, Rattletraps, and yes---topwaters, mainly big Chug Bugs. Often, all three of us were hooked up at the same time. We made it look like Capt. Keith was running an assembly line, netting and unhooking big fish so we could get right back in the water to do it all over again! In addition to being a terrific guide, Capt. Keith is a gourmet chef and the meals he prepared for us were delicious. Additionally the accomodations are convenient, clean, and very comfortable---as is the boat. His package deal comes as close to being a complete "turn-key" fishing operation as you will ever find. He even takes care of your fishing license. I've fished all over the world and this was one of the most enjoyable and productive trips that I have ever made. Thanks, Keith, for everything. I can't wait to get back!!! All the best, Gary

Fished Tues. with Noel Bunol,Greg and Ethan from Baton Rouge,La..Greg and his son Ethan were first timers, never wet a hook before today.Little did they know, they were in for a MONSTER FISHING TRIP.A rising tide, west wind 10/15,beautiful green water, calm surf and huge thunderheads in all directions. At the dock I ran into Capt.Big"O" who remarked ,I was going to get all wet.He was right but it wasn't from the rain. Those big sowbelly trout wet me down real good with saltwater as they tried to escape the net. What a morning, the surf was alive with feeding fish--TROUT--REDS--JACKS--BLACKTIP and mullet flying in all directions. From 6 to 10am. the action was nonstop, not a trout under 3 lbs..Along with the Trout action,we hooked 3 or 4 MONSTER REDS and a couple of BLICKTIP SHARK.The trout bite was over at 10am with high tide.At that point we moved back into the canes for a limit of 20" REDS.Beginners LUCK,I don't think so.If I might say so myself, this boy put them on the fish"BIG TIME". Fished yesterday with Rodney and Michael Franks from Winnfield,La..Until today,I thought July couldn't get any better as for as fishing is concerned.Today proved me wrong,no words to describe the bite except---(RED HOT).The fish were totally out of control---(SUICIDAL).Fished the East side of the river--bait of chioce really didn't matter--they hit anything we through--live shrimp, dead shrimp, top water, plastic on the bottom--whatever.Most of the fish I personally caught were on a old standard--SILVER SIDEWINDER--with a fast retrieve, the faster the better. What else can I say,the proof is in the pictures(take a look). Fished with Kerry Friedman and Steve Hilton from New Orleans. These boys wanted BIG TROUT and a limit of keeper REDS.We fished the east side of the river on a falling tide, water was beautiful.First stop"BINGO",we put 30 trout between 3 and 5 lbs.in the boat-- SEE PICS.The bite wasn't fast but definitely steady, live shrimp under a popper.Around 11am. we moved back into the canes for REDS.I've been fishing this one spot for two months now and it just won't quit.Made to order---we had our 15 fish limit of 18" to 20" REDS in short order and headed for the dock.July can be a tough month to fish due to the heat but this July has been nothing but "PHENOMENAL".The fishing just can't get any better "its on fire". Okay, back in the saddle and ready to fish!!!!!!!!!! Was on the water all of last week between the wind and rain fishing was difficult. What a difference a week makes.Fished Tues.4/17 with Tedd and Sue out of New Orleans. The weather was perfect--bluebird day,NE wind 10-15,high tide 8:30am and good water.Fished the outer bays on the east side.First stop was a very popular location for alot of anglers and charter captains. The bite was strong between first light and 9am at which point "GOD" flipped the switch to the off position. Tedd and Sue used live shrimp and I was throwing plastic under a popper. The fish averaged 2 to 3lbs.,we ended up with fifteen specks and a few reds mixed in.As the morning grew long I decided to make a move. This is why charter boat fishing captains come in handy from time to time.Fifteen miles and thirty minutes later we came to our second stop--Nothing.Pulled anchor and moved two or three miles up the coast,1pm with strong falling tide--"Bingo".Double and triple hookups on live shrimp and plastics. The larger fish seemed to prefer plastic, average size fish for the next hour was 23" and we left them biting on every cast. Most were females with slight egg development.I suspect by next full moon the spawn will be in full swing.Feels good to be back on the water,"where I belong" and God bless everyone who weathered the storm. Until we meet again, good luck and happy fishing.
