
The tuna of many names. Also called bonito (incorrectly, bonito are rare in the Gulf), true tuna and false albacore. Little tuna are easy to identify due to several dark spots that dot the belly below the pectoral fin and by wavy stripe on its dark blue back.
Little tuna invade clean shallow coastal Louisiana waters, the only tuna to do so. Although they are fierce fighters Little Tuna have little value at the dinner table. Strong marinades or prolonged smoking are necessary to make this smallest of tuna's palatable.
