Truly a season-less fish. The blackfin tuna is the bread-n-butter fish for many overnight fishing trips in Louisiana waters. Irrespective of time of year blackfin are available for offshore anglers and are easiest to catch at night. Natural gas platforms Cognac, Lena, and Moxie are some of Louisiana's best spots for this non-migrating species of tuna. Most skippers adopt a 20 fish per boat limit.
A lunate tail, blunt ballistic body and grey finlets proclaim this species to be a the blackfin tuna. Louisiana blackfin average around 15 pounds. Occasionally specimens weighing 30 + Lbs are boated but those are increaseinly rare.
