LARGEMOUTH BASS

(Micropterus Slamoides)

Also called green bass, black bass, Florida bass, Oswego bass and by it's most common Louisiana name, the green trout. Green trout are spread throughout Louisiana's freshwater and brackish water lakes and estuaries and are an important recreational game fish. Many a windy day has shut down redfish and speckled trout trips to develop into a green trout trip.

Louisiana green trout tend to be on the small size with the average size landed of around 2 Lbs. Green trout can easily be identified by the mouth that extends at least to the edge of the eyes and by the pronounced dip between the first and second dorsal. The most intelligent of freshwater species, green trout will often not strike any lure after an "encounter" with it. The most common freshwater water gamefish found in Louisiana waters.
