I have a 24-volt system do I have to disconnet the two batteries to charge them or can I leave them connected.I have been taking one lead off of one of the batteries.I have two 10 amp deep cycle chargers,when charging the full charge light will not come on,if I just use one charger at a time the full charge light comes on.Does anyone have any clue.

tony, first off how do you have your batteries hooked up, and do you have your trolling motor plugged in??
remember we did not inherit these resources from our parents, we are merely borrowing them from our children |

Tony, I stay confused.
I have the 25 volt system(2 -12 volt batteries hooked together) and bought a 24 volt charger. Book said charge them together , no problem 10 years.
Bought an onboard charger 12 volt 2 banks. Book says hook each bank to a sererate battery and don't disconnect the jumper . this works also.
don't understand electric.

buddy, actually you are closer to the amount of volts than 24. a 12 volt battery is supposed to put out 13.5 volts!!

| I have the positive cable from the troll motor to the positive terminal on one battery,and the negative cable from troll motor to the negative terminal on the other battery,and the positive terminal of one battery to the negative terminal of the other battery.I unplug the troll motor when not fishing,I never leave it plugged in |

okay, well it sounds like your hooked up right. i have a 36 volt system and i charge all the batteries at the same time with a three bank charger, what a three bank charger is actually 3 seperate battery chargers. i don't have a problem. but make sure you have a fuse on your battery charger. now you could have changed polarity on one of the batteries, but i have not heard of that happening since we went from generators to alternators back in the 60's.

Your hookup should be as illustrated. As Ed mentioned, a two bank charger is simple two battery chargers. You should have two pairs of wires coming out from the charger. Each pair has a POS+ and NEG- wire. Each pair should only be connected to one battery with POS to POS and NEG to NEG.
If you have this configured correctly, then you may have one battery that is bringing down the other which is why it works when you disconnect battery #1 from battery #2. I assume the wire you are disconnecting is the one that connects battery #1 and #2 together.
Were both deep cycle batteries purchased and installed at the same time? Are both batteries the same identical types and amp rating? Are you getting a full day's use out of your trolling batteries?
Check the water level in the batteries. Maybe one is very low. Use distilled water to refill.
I have a 36v trolling motor but my boat only came with a 24v charger from the factory. I wanted the extra thrust that a 36v motor provided. Therefore, only two batteries are hooked to the 24v charger and I use a separate 12v charger for the third battery. However, I don't have to disconnect any of the batteries from each other in order for the chargers to bring them to the fully charged state. |
